Location was excellent. The motel was very close to the entrance of Smoky Mountain Park and easily walkable to downtown. It was very quiet as it was away from the main strip. Nice patio on the River. Room had no carpet. Bed was comfy. Great value.
The location and scenery were outstanding. We were close enough to the main strip in Gatlinburg that we could walk instead of drive during our outings. Having the balcony looking out over the rushing water was relaxing and peaceful.
The hotel was nothing like it was represented in the pictures. It was dirty and disgusting and we didn?t even stay. We left two hours after we checked in and had to go book a room somewhere else.

Top Tips
- Book your Townsend cabin 60-90 days ahead for late-October peak leaf-peeping weekends, as availability and nightly rates often rise by 20-40% closer to arrival. For summer weekends, booking 30-45 days out usually secures lower rates. Review cancellation terms before finalizing your booking.
- Cades Cove's 11-mile loop can require over 2 hours to drive during busy weekends. Arrive between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. for better wildlife viewing and shorter delays. Confirm any vehicle restrictions or special closures before your visit via the National Park website.
- Cellular service is often unreliable inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and hotel Wi-Fi may be limited outside major towns. Download offline maps and confirm any reservation details before leaving Townsend.
- Many Townsend cabin rentals restrict overnight trailer or RV parking, or charge additional daily fees (typically $15 to $50). Confirm your property’s parking policy when booking, particularly if traveling with large vehicles.
- Rural rentals commonly use private well water; if you have sensitivity or health preferences, request the water source type and recent hot tub maintenance records from your host at least one week before arrival.
- Expect many Townsend cabins to require a deposit or full prepayment, with nonrefundable terms for peak dates (30-60 days out). Check refund policies before you commit, as last-minute changes are typically not allowed.
- Step-free or ground-floor access may be limited, as many cabins feature exterior stairs. If accessible accommodations are needed, confirm bedroom and bathroom locations directly with the host prior to booking.
- Short-term rental fees commonly add 15-35% above the base rate, with cleaning fees averaging $15 to $200 and OTA service charges at 6-15%. Always compare the full cost, not just the nightly rate, before confirming your reservation.
