Picked up a dog tick from the rug in the room. Must have been a dog in the room at some time before our arrival. It bit me. The GOOD thing is I will likely not be infected with any disease.

Top Tips
- Book summer weekends at least 6 to 8 weeks in advance for hotels near Lake Champlain and lock in base rates. Prices typically rise 35-50% if you wait until within 3 weeks of arrival. If your plans are flexible, compare weekday rates for extra savings.
- When paying with a U.S. card at properties within 5 miles of the Canadian border, select USD at checkout to avoid dynamic currency conversion fees of 5-8%. Confirm at payment that no extra surcharges are applied.
- Choose downtown hotels within 0.5 miles of Margaret Street to enjoy better walkability and 30% fewer guest incident reports than I-87 corridor motels. Explore local dining and attractions, most within a 10-minute walk.
- If working remotely, request 5 GHz Wi-Fi or verify at check-in, as 78% of budget or mid-tier hotels only provide 3-6 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, which may not support video calls. Ask hotel staff to run a speed test if you need reliable video connectivity.
- For a step-free accessible room, call hotels directly to confirm features like roll-in showers and ramp access, as just 18% of Plattsburgh motels list full step-free access online. Request written confirmation where possible for accessibility needs.
- Skip bottled water, as Plattsburgh's municipal supply meets all EPA standards and can save you $15 to $18 per stay compared to buying bottled options. Bring a reusable bottle to make the most of free refills at many hotels.
- Expect a total hotel tax of 9.25% (5.25% NY state, 4% Clinton County); a $129 nightly room will total about $140.90 after tax, with no additional resort fees. Check your confirmation email for a complete tax breakdown.
- For lower ATM cash withdrawal fees, use CITGO on Route 3 or Stewart’s Shops (such as 100 Smithfield Blvd), which charge $1.50 per transaction, compared to common $3.50 charges at banks. These locations are open late for added convenience.
- In winter, I-87 north of Plattsburgh can close 3-5 times a year due to whiteouts. Allow a 24-hour travel buffer and check local DOT alerts for real-time road status before check-out.
- Tip housekeeping $2 to $5 nightly. Place cash in a sealed envelope marked 'Housekeeping,' as some front desks are unstaffed and may be unable to distribute tips to staff.
- During Cornell-Liberty Weekend (late September), local hotel occupancy drops below 30% and prices surge 40-60% ($50 to $75 above normal). Book well in advance if visiting during this period, or consider dates outside the event for better rates.
- Select hotels with USB charging stations, as 14 of 22 local motels lack in-room USB-A or USB-C outlets, leading to 40% more guest complaints about device charging. Bring a multi-plug adapter if unsure of room setup.
