Nothing...they overbooked my pre-paid reservations and left me in cold after my 4 hour drive. Plus they lied and said my room was good to go after I notified them my flight was delayed. I hate that place

Top Tips
- Book hotel rooms 3–8 weeks ahead for University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) home-game weekends, as hotels within 3 miles (4.8 km) of campus fill quickly and rates can be 25–40% higher near game dates. Check availability directly with chains like Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn in this window.
- Plan for limited nonstop flights at Monroe Regional Airport (MLU). Allow a 90–120 minute buffer for same-day connections via major hubs like DFW or ATL, since most airline routes require a layover. Double-check airline schedules during holidays or game weekends.
- Reserve a rental car in advance for stays outside downtown, as local taxi and rideshare service is scarce after 18:00 and car supply tightens on event weekends. Select a compact car for easier parking at most mid-scale chain hotels.
- Choose a hotel along the I-20 corridor for fast highway access, brand-standard amenities, and complimentary parking. Marriott, Hilton, and Holiday Inn cluster within 0.5 miles of exits 117-120.
- Prioritize chain hotels with a 24-hour staffed front desk and well-lit parking lots. Ouachita Parish reports property crime rates 25% above the national median. Confirm lighting and security features in your booking confirmation.
- If traveling with a trailer or RV, verify parking and oversized vehicle policies with the hotel before booking. Surface parking is standard, but some chains restrict overnight RV or trailer stays. Ask for written confirmation if needed.
- Expect 15–17% in combined local and state taxes on hotel rates in Monroe, higher than the U.S. average. Request an itemized total before checkout for transparency.
- Stay at properties listing backup generators, such as Holiday Inn, for power assurance during storm season (June-November). Outages during these months can last several hours, and Monroe often exceeds 90% humidity.
- If remote work is needed, confirm Wi-Fi upload speeds with the hotel in advance. Urban hotels typically offer 50–75 Mbps; properties farther from central Monroe may only deliver 20–40 Mbps.
- For July–August stays, choose newer (post-2005) downtown hotels or confirm AC system capacity at older properties, as temperatures in some rooms can reach 27–29°C (80–84°F) during heat waves.
- Select I-20 corridor hotels for lower flood risk. Properties east of US-165 at or below Monroe’s median elevation saw triple the weather-related cancellations from 2019-2023.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel kiosks or during card payments to avoid 4–7% added fees. Always choose to pay in USD, even if using a foreign card.
- Request an accessible, step-free room when booking at hotels built before 1995, since only 38% of older Monroe properties offer these features. Give at least 72 hours’ notice to increase your access likelihood by 90%.
- Use ATMs at Monroe Medical Center or interstate service plazas to avoid $4–$6 surcharges typical at standalone downtown convenience store ATMs.
- During boil water advisories, which can occur 3–5 times per year from May to September, use provided bottled or filtered water for drinking and brushing teeth. Confirm status at check-in if traveling in summer.
- Tip staff 15% in full-service hotel restaurants, which remains the local norm. No additional tip is expected for buffet or self-serve breakfast bars.
- If booking near Pecanland Mall, use hotel shuttle service after 21:00, as 60% of recent guest safety concerns cited poor pedestrian lighting in the area. Confirm shuttle operating hours at booking.
- Stack AAA or AARP discounts with eligible senior (55+) rates at brands like La Quinta and Holiday Inn for 12–18% off. Eligibility and discount stacking vary; verify with the property before finalizing payment.
- Book extended stays (7+ nights) directly with property management (e.g., Residence Inn, Extended Stay America), which can save $65–$90 per week versus third-party OTAs. Weekly housekeeping and kitchenette access are standard at these chains.
- Request a ground-floor room for step-free access if elevator service is uncertain. 40% of Monroe hotels built before 1990 don’t have elevators.
- Limit video meetings and large uploads on Monroe hotel Wi-Fi, which may average just 5–10 Mbps during peak evening hours. Confirm speed at check-in if remote work is required.
- Book 3–6 months early for Mardi Gras (February) to avoid paying 30–50% more compared to spring shoulder dates. Flexible rates may still sell out within 12 weeks of parades.
- Confirm pet policies before booking. Most chain hotels allow pets for $25–$50 per night, with restrictions on number and breed. Ask about pet-friendly floors or outside green space before arrival.
- Use free hotel shuttle service to bypass downtown parking fees of $15–$25 per night. Many chains schedule airport and downtown runs every hour on weekends.
- Explore LEED-certified hotels like Hilton Garden Inn Monroe for sustainable features like energy-saving lighting and water fixtures. Confirm certifications and benefits on the hotel’s website or in your room guide.
