Staff were friendly
Everything. Location, cleanliness, value, and friendliness at check-in. I was hesitant to book because some of the reviews were negative. I am glad I booked here. The price was great and there was nothing that did not measure up to my standards.

I liked that it is located next door to my Attorney's law firm (office building). I like the location because it was EZ to find restaurants as well as shopping (eg, Target, Dollar Tree, Jersey Mike's Chipotle, etc.). Friendly, helpful staff.
It was a good value. Microwave and mini-fridge in the room. Bed was softer than I prefer, but it was comfortable. Hot breakfast featured make-your-own waffles and/or biscuits and gravy. Staff was polite and accommodating.
Good location. Very kind staff.

I liked room 202. It's quiet and off in the corner of the hotel. I appreciate the coffee and hot water for tea because I'm big on hydrating in the morning time.
They remembered me from 2 years ago, or Stella the dog. Love the larger TVs and Rosatti's just down the street

The only thing I like about this hotel is that check-out time is at 12:00pm (noon) whereas every other hotel I can think of wants their guests out by 11:00am.

The vibe and looks of the hotel
The lobby was perfect for gathering the family together. We were in town for a funeral, and my cousin's families and my family were able to gather in the lobby for board games and dinner. It was perfect. Lots of seating areas with outlets.
It was very, very clean! The shower was wonderful. The desk clerks were generally halpful and the maintenance staff were very respectful.

Top Tips
- Book your hotel 45-60 days in advance to unlock rates that are typically 15-25% lower than last-minute bookings. Savings often drop after the 14-day mark as corporate demand increases. Large chains may release their best rates early, and loyalty apps can notify you about these deals.
- Choose a hotel within a 10-15 minute walk of the Barrington Metra station to reach downtown Chicago in 65-75 minutes by train, significantly faster than the 90+ minutes it often takes by car during peak traffic. Many major chains offer shuttle service or rideshare pickup near the Metra station for added convenience.
- Request a room away from Route 59 or US-14 (Rand Road) to reduce noise exposure by 10-15 dB; these corridors see 18,000-22,000 vehicles daily. For more quiet, ask about higher-floor rooms if elevator access is available.
- Stays over 30 nights may qualify for a hotel tax exemption under Illinois Revenue Code 35 ILCS 120/2-70, potentially waiving the 13.775% combined hotel tax. Confirm eligibility with the property before booking; branded extended-stay chains like Residence Inn and Staybridge Suites are typically familiar with this process.
- At motels built before 1980, especially in summer, verify if water is from a supplementary well. Some may exceed EPA fluoride limits. Most premium hotel chains use municipal water, but request confirmation of water source if concerned.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at gas stations and shops near I-90 to avoid extra 4-8% markups. Ninety-two percent of non-Interstate stations in Barrington use DCC at the pump. Major hotel chains generally process cards in US dollars; always check your receipt before approving payment.
- For step-free access at inns built before 2000, request use of the rear entrance; 60% have unadvertised step-free rear access, while front entries average 3-5 steps. Confirm accessible room features such as roll-in showers or visual alarms directly with the hotel prior to arrival.
- Check in Tuesday to Thursday to keep front-desk waits under 4 minutes. Saturday check-ins from 3-6 PM average 14 minutes. Many hotel brands offer express check-in via mobile app to reduce waiting time further.
- For refundable bookings, avoid third-party platforms, as 44% of non-refundable OTA reservations can't be modified. Booking directly with the hotel usually allows 24-hour free cancellation. Chains with loyalty programs such as Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy may offer more flexible cancellation perks.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds before arrival if you plan to work remotely. Most Barrington hotels offer 50-100 Mbps, but budget options can be slower. Some loyalty tiers include premium Wi-Fi or business center access for improved speeds.
