The food in the Brasserie (both breakfast and the evening meal) was far too fussy.

Location and the food were fantastic. There is a garage lot 300 ft behind the hotel which is great. The Main Street in front of the hotel is closed to traffic and is used as a town square and shopping dining area. Very old and unique. We loved it

Top Tips
- Book accommodations at least 6-8 weeks in advance for peak periods, such as summer or Chester Races, as nightly hotel prices rise by 20-30% during these events. Check flexible cancellation policies before booking to accommodate changing plans.
- Pre-arrange taxis or confirm if your hotel offers a shuttle, since public transit from Hawarden Airport to Chester (8-16 km/5-10 mi) is limited. Taxi fares average £18-28 (€21-33, approx. $15 to $45 USD) one way; confirm rates with your provider.
- Check parking availability and cost before booking. Hotels near Hawarden Airport may offer free onsite parking, while central Chester properties often charge £10-25 (€12-30, approx. $15 to $32 USD) per night. Confirm spaces during events when demand spikes.
- Select your hotel based on needs. Airport hotels are 4-5 km (2.5-3 mi) from key business parks. City center options place you within 500 m of Chester’s Roman Walls, shops, and museums.
- Verify breakfast and dining times at booking. Many airport-area hotels include continental breakfast, but late-night dining may be unavailable after 21:00. City center chains often offer full English options; confirm if advance reservation is needed.
- Review recent guest ratings for soundproofing. Request a quiet room if sensitive to aircraft or street noise, especially in airport or city center hotels. Higher-floor rooms typically experience less disruption.
- Tipping is optional but appreciated. Leave £1-5 (€1.20-6, approx. $15) per night for housekeeping, and £1-2 (€1.20-2.40, approx. $15) per bag for porter service. Most major UK hotel chains accept tips in cash or can add them to the final bill if preferred.
- UK law requires photo ID at check-in. Bring a passport (for non-UK travelers) or driving license (for UK residents). Some chains offer digital check-in; verify availability before arrival.
- If you need flexibility, ask about early check-in (from 12:00) or late check-out (until 14:00), which may be available for an added fee or as a complimentary loyalty benefit. Confirm times at booking.
- Wi-Fi is free in most UK chain hotels, but speeds range from 5-100 Mbps. If reliable connectivity is crucial, ask about premium Wi-Fi or business center access at your chosen property.
- For accessible stays, confirm step-free access, lifts, and accessible rooms. Some heritage properties in Chester may not meet modern standards. Clarify features and parking needs directly with your hotel.
- Consult hotel staff for local insight. Many can recommend top-rated restaurants within 800 m and attractions like Chester Zoo (under 6 km/4 mi) or the city’s historic Roman Walls (250 m from city hotels).
- For family travel, check for family rooms, cots, and kids' menus. Many UK chain hotels offer children’s breakfast at a discounted rate. Solo travelers may prefer upper floors or rooms near lifts for added ease and safety.
- COVID-19 rules are mostly lifted, but confirm any updated breakfast service or cleaning policies. UK rates generally include VAT; always check if local fees or city taxes apply at check-in.
- Chester’s weather shifts quickly. Pack layers, a waterproof jacket, and water-resistant shoes. Hotel loaner umbrellas are uncommon, though reception may help during a storm. Check in advance if needed.
- Adhere to local etiquette. UK hotels often enforce quiet hours from 22:00 in shared spaces. Queue patiently and use 'please' and 'thank you' with staff for smooth service.
- Check the Chester events calendar for dates like Chester Races or the Christmas Market. Room rates can increase by 20-35% during these times and availability drops. Book as early as possible.
