Top Tips
- Book 6 to 12 weeks ahead for Mile of Music (mid-August) and Lawrence University key dates such as move-in, homecoming, and graduation. Downtown hotels along College Avenue usually sell out first, so compare multiple locations for your preferred room.
- Appleton International Airport (ATW) offers the shortest access to downtown, with typical car transfers under 20 minutes. Rideshares and taxis are available; request a fare estimate in advance for budgeting.
- Hotels on College Avenue or near the Fox River provide walkable access to venues, restaurants, and nightlife, usually a 5 to 15 minute walk from major attractions. Properties near US-41/State Hwy-441 are typically 8 to 15 minutes by car and tend to offer lower nightly rates.
- Confirm parking options, including those for oversized vehicles, before booking. Downtown lots and ramps may charge hourly, adding $8–$20 per night; some suburban hotels may include free onsite parking.
- Check event calendars for Fox Cities Performing Arts Center and the Exhibition Center, as hotel rates can surge on concert or convention nights. Plan ahead to avoid last-minute price increases.
- From November to March, Midwestern winter weather can affect sidewalks and parking. If you have mobility needs, request accessible or ground-floor accommodations, and ask about snow removal services since practices vary by property.
- Historic hotels and B&Bs near downtown may not offer elevator access. Confirm your room’s floor and whether step-free or ramp access is available before booking if you need accessibility features.
- Direct bookings at midscale chains such as Hilton Garden Inn or Holiday Inn Express may include bundled amenities like breakfast and complimentary onsite parking. Compare direct and third-party rates for the best value.
- Ask about EV charging stations before arrival, confirming how many chargers are onsite and whether reservations or fees apply, as policies differ between properties.
