It was very clean and more stylish for the price than I expected. It was very well-located on a quiet street close to the beach and lower State Street/Funk Zone. The staff was all very friendly and helpful.
Mason Beach Inn is in a great location; within walking distance to Stearnes Wharf, State Street shopping and dining. They have a nice heated pool. The staff was accommodating & Housekeeping was attentive. However, I¿m still waiting for my receipt!!

The 24/7 gym, the family friendly poo area and the suite style rooms.
Location is misleading. You’re on the freeway in an area that isn’t really walkable, everything is a drive but the way the hotel is photographed. It makes you feel like you’re in a much bigger property and surrounding versus where you really are.

Top Tips
- Book hotels 3-4 months in advance for summer visits to secure the best rates. Between June and August, standard prices rise 40-60% above the off-season, and hotel availability often falls below 30% within 60 days of check-in. Early planning maximizes both value and room choice.
- During Old Spanish Days in August, avoid downtown hotels as rates can increase by 70-90% and a 4-night minimum stay is usually required. Save $150-$250 per night by booking outside zip code 93101, and enjoy quieter accommodations while staying near the festival.
- Select hotels north of State Street for a quieter stay. Noise levels in this area are 12-15 dBA lower than central districts, with 60% fewer short-term rentals and reduced foot traffic after 9 PM, which is ideal for restful sleep.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion when using non-USD cards to avoid hidden fees of 3-5%. Always select 'charge in USD' at check-in for accurate billing; this is standard at most reputable U.S. hotels.
- Request step-free access explicitly, as only 38% of Santa Barbara hotels built before 1980 offer elevators. Properties in the Presidio neighborhood (93101) are 70% step-access only, so specify accessibility needs such as ramp or visual alarm systems if required.
- Use the free Santa Barbara MTD Route 12X shuttle from Goleta Amtrak station to downtown hotels. It runs hourly from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM and cuts transfer time to 18-22 minutes compared to a 40+ minute walk, which is especially useful for travelers with luggage.
- Choose inland hotels near State and Micheltorena Streets for reliable Wi-Fi. Coastal fog often reduces beachfront speeds to 35-55 Mbps, while inland properties typically offer 85-120 Mbps that supports stable work and streaming.
- Tip housekeeping $15-$30 per day in cash, placed discretely in your room. According to local hospitality standards, daily tips result in a 40% higher likelihood of your room being serviced, particularly during winter when unstaffed shifts increase by 25%.
- Confirm if resort fees are charged before booking; 88% of Santa Barbara hotels do not add these, unlike the 68% rate in Palm Springs. Verifying in advance helps you avoid unexpected charges of $15-$45 per day.
- Stay at LEED-certified hotels during the June-October drought months. Properties such as Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront implement 20-30% water reductions through guest reuse programs, while non-certified hotels may add 15% higher drought surcharges.
- Avoid booking hotels within 500 feet of the Funk Zone if you are sensitive to noise. Weekend sound levels can exceed 75 dBA until 1 AM, causing 30% more sleep disruptions than hotels at least 0.3 miles east.
- Use a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve card for a 10-15% statement credit and combine with AAA/CAA discounts. For example, a $279 room can become $235 when both offers are applied at Santa Barbara area hotels.
