Very professional and welcoming woman manager when we checked in. She made up for the restaurant being closed on Christmas eve day by giving us vouchers which we could use at the Doubletree a few minutes drive away. The young woman got me my points too.

The room and the location.

Room was well equipped and clean. Did not like inability to run heating/cooling system on fan only. Not able to create white nouse , so exterior and hall noises were heard.
As of 2024, this is the newest hotel in the St. Jacobs area, so the rooms are very clean and modern. The gym has very high-end equipment, including the earliest functional trainer I've used in a gym. Continental breakfast is included.
Really enjoyed the good variety for breakfast. Excellent for a 2 & 4 year old. Pool was nice to have for the kids to enjoy after a long day too!

Top Tips
- Book your hotel several months in advance for major events like Kitchener-Waterloo's Oktoberfest (late September or early October) or Toronto's TIFF (September), as rates can spike and availability drops by 20-30% for last-minute bookings during these periods. For event-specific deals, consider subscribing to hotel newsletters or loyalty programs, which may provide early access rates or extra perks during busy dates.
- Budget for additional charges: hotel prices typically exclude Ontario's 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) and a Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) of about 4% in Kitchener-Waterloo. Some hotel loyalty memberships may offer discounts on parking or tax-bundled rates for longer stays; always ask about all potential add-ons including resort and parking fees when booking.
- Pre-book airport transfers from Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) to your hotel, since public transit is limited and taxi or rideshare services to downtown Kitchener-Waterloo can range from $15-$37 USD (C$20-50). Many hotels offer complimentary shuttle service, which may require advance reservation; confirm shuttle availability and accessibility features like ramp access if needed.
- Confirm parking availability and costs, as downtown Toronto hotel parking is often expensive while many Kitchener-Waterloo hotels typically include free parking. Some downtown Toronto hotels partner with nearby garages that offer overnight rates, and accessible parking spaces should be requested if needed. Daily charges in select areas can range from $15-$18 USD (C$20-25).
- Canadian tipping etiquette is 15-20% for restaurant and taxi service. For hotel staff, bellhops generally receive $1.50-$3.50 USD (C$2-5) per bag and housekeeping $1.50-$3.50 USD (C$2-5) per day for good service. Tips can be left in cash (CAD) or added to the bill, and while not legally required, they are widely expected except in rare cases where service charges are included.
- Present a valid government-issued photo ID (passport for international visitors) and the credit card used for booking at check-in since hotels typically place a hold for incidentals. Some hotels may accept digital wallets or alternative payment methods. If you require an accessible room, specify this when booking as supply may be limited.
- When booking, request a quiet room on a higher floor and away from elevators or ice machines to reduce noise from hotel operations or busy streets such as Queen or King Street. Travelers with accessibility needs should instead request rooms near elevators or with step-free access. Some hotels in Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo offer soundproofed rooms or white noise machines on request.
- Prepare for variable weather: winters from November to March can be cold with snow, so confirm hotel heating and ask about taxi availability during storms. In summer, verify that air conditioning works and, for guests with disabilities, confirm rooms have accessible heating or AC controls. Hotels with indoor walkways or transit connections can be an advantage for winter visits.
- Business travelers should confirm Wi-Fi speed and business amenities, as free Wi-Fi may be throttled. Hotels near Kitchener-Waterloo tech hubs often have reliable high-speed internet, meeting rooms, or 24/7 business centers. Some loyalty programs include complimentary premium Wi-Fi; ask about ergonomic workspaces or AV support for meetings if needed.
- Toronto Kitchener Waterloo Airport (YKF) is about 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of downtown Toronto. Factor in 1-2 hours of extra travel, as there is no direct public transit between the airport and Toronto, and traffic can further increase travel time, especially during rush hours. Before traveling, check current shuttle or rideshare app wait times.
- Use the in-room safe or hotel safe deposit box for passports, extra cash, and electronics. In-room safes may not fit larger electronics, so check sizing if bringing a laptop. Solo travelers benefit from hotels that have staffed lobbies, 24/7 security, and good recent guest reviews for safety impressions; central neighborhoods with well-lit floors and key card access add security.
