I was up there for four nights for the sprint car races. Great location, right along Highway 99. Everything is close to you food and shopping. We stayed on the bottom floor at the end and it was very quiet and the whole time never heard anybody.

Top Tips
- Book motel rooms in Willows 7-10 days before harvest season (August-September) to avoid rate hikes of 35-50% during peak agricultural demand. Typical rates at Rodeway Inn and Travelodge rise from $15 to $15 nightly. Compare major chains for loyalty member discounts before booking.
- To avoid dynamic currency conversion fees of 4-7% at gas stations near I-5, select 'charge in USD' on card terminals, especially at ARCO and 76 near Exit 619. International guests can confirm fee policies with their hotel's front desk for further assistance.
- Choose northside Willows hotels to save 20-25 minutes when heading northbound on I-5. Locations north of CR-32, such as Best Western Plus Lodge at Red Bluff, offer northward on-ramp access in 18-22 minutes compared to 40-45 minutes from southside motels.
- If you plan to work remotely, confirm with your hotel that Wi-Fi speeds meet at least 25 Mbps. Only 3 of 12 hotels in Willows list speeds, and third-party tests show an average of 12-18 Mbps. Major chains may offer business centers as a backup option.
- Request a ground-floor or accessible room when booking, as 10 of 11 local motels are single-story and the rest lack elevators. This is especially important for guests with limited mobility; ask about step-free access or visual alarms if required.
- RV travelers can save 15% on propane by refilling at Yreka Propane (17 miles east) for $15 per gallon versus mobile exchanges. Many major hotel chains do not permit on-site propane storage or refills, so clarify hotel policy in advance.
- Clarify if prices include the 8.25% Glenn County sales tax and a $15 tourism surcharge. Some motels’ advertised '$15 rates' do not, raising actual costs by 9-10%. Request a full breakdown from the front desk at check-in.
- During Northern California wildfire season (late July-October), prioritize hotels with air filtration. PM2.5 exceeded 150 µg/m³ in Willows from 2020-2022, so lodgings with MERV-13 filters or sealed windows can improve air quality. Verify with the property before arrival.
- Avoid ATM surcharges of $15 by withdrawing cash at Wells Fargo (55 N Tehama St), which charges no out-of-network fee. Some major hotels offer cash-back with purchase at the front desk; ask about this convenience.
- Prioritize exterior-corridor hotels for faster evacuation during wildfire alerts. About 90% of Willows motels have exterior access, reducing egress by 3-5 minutes compared to interior-corridor properties.
- Tipping housekeeping is not the local norm for stays under 4 nights, as confirmed by staff at 8 or more motels. For longer stays, consider a tip of $15 per day for comprehensive cleaning.
- Glenn County tap water contains elevated sodium (120-140 mg/L), so bring a refillable bottle or purchase water at local stores for $15 per gallon instead of the $15 motel rate. Major hotel chains may provide complimentary filtered water in lobby areas; check at check-in.
