It was a bare bones option. Small rooms with a communal restroom. The listing did advertise having microwaves in each room which it did not.
All the staff were kind, caring, and respectful. All the bathrooms were kept clean and the area was very quaint. Also, it was a plus to park free. We had an overall very pleasant stay at Ocean Park hotel! Grateful to have been there.

Fell in love with this hotel. Pay the extra money for the large balcony, you won't be dissapointed! We had a ball here and the staff was amazing! Total hidden gym, especially if you like cool, old hotels.

Good serviceable, reasonably clean hotel. Not a 4 star.
Closeness to beach
The staff. The parking op...supposedly separate from the hotel sucks. The "valet" drove off with our car & luggage; they couldn't find our keys - he hadn't given us a card. I wasted 3 hours looking for the car & luggage and arguing with dimwits.

Staff attention to detail
everything was amazing, however I did find it a bit unusual but mostly humorous, that the housekeeping went through all my toiletries and organized them on counter for me. Im not mad and I don't have any problems, it was simply put kind of hilarious.

When you walk into the hotel the view of the beach is breath taking. The lobby offers a stunning view of the pacific.
First class property, clean and ideally located. You can¿t help but to relax and enjoy yourself in this property. You pay a lot to stay here I struggle to say it¿s worth it though. Next time I¿ll try a different property just to compare! Ha

A 1920's Spanish Revival building that was formerly apartment residences. Every room or suite is unique, furnished in a bohemian-chic style. The place has authentic architectural detail, lovely grounds, a limited but delightful menu.

The location was amazing!!! I didn’t have a car to park so it made it even better. The brick wall inside the room and windows were beautiful.
This hotel is the epitome of everything of what I would want and a hotel including the price. I mean, price can go down always for better. But --- right on the beach is amazing.

Top Tips
- Book your Santa Monica hotel at least 2 to 3 months in advance for peak seasons (June-August and holidays) to secure rates 10-25% lower than last-minute fares. Early booking helps due to high local demand.
- Expect hotel parking fees in Santa Monica to range from $30 to $60 per night. Compare self-parking with valet when booking, as rates and in/out privileges differ by property.
- Santa Monica hotels typically add 14% or more occupancy tax and may charge daily resort or facility fees (often $25-$50 per night). Confirm all surcharges during booking to avoid unexpected costs.
- Hotels within 1 mile of Santa Monica Airport (SMO) are practical for private aviation but may be up to 3 miles from top attractions like the pier or beach. Choose a hotel based on your itinerary to reduce overall transit time.
- Hotel shuttles to LAX or Santa Monica Beach are not standard, so ask about availability before booking. If available, shuttles may save $25 to $50 each way compared to taxis or rideshare.
- Big Blue Bus and Metro Expo Line offer transit to downtown, the pier, or Venice Beach for under $2 per one-way fare. Use local transit apps for the latest schedules and fastest routes.
- Prepare to show a government-issued photo ID (passport or driver's license) and credit card at check-in. Minimum age varies, with many hotels requiring 18-21; confirm specific policies if under 21.
- Plan to tip $2-$5 per bag for bellhops, $2-$5 per night for housekeeping, 15-20% for restaurant servers, and $2-$5 for valet drivers. These are standard gratuity amounts suggested in Santa Monica hotels.
- If booking near Santa Monica Airport, request a room on a higher floor or facing away from runways to reduce noise. Room placement can improve rest quality, especially for light sleepers.
- Hotel amenities such as free Wi-Fi, breakfast, pool, or fitness center vary by property. Check directly to confirm which are included, especially Wi-Fi and breakfast, as these features can affect daily cost and convenience.
- Pack comfortable shoes, swimwear, and layered clothing for Santa Monica's mild climate (average highs 66-75°F/19-24°C). Outdoor fitness, cycling the Strand, and beach activities are popular with both locals and travelers.
- Carry water and use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) even on cloudy days, as UV levels remain high and Santa Monica averages 280 sunny days a year. Staying hydrated and using sun protection is essential for outdoor activities.
- Front desks and concierges offer up-to-date recommendations for area dining, events, and transit. Ask for local insights on current happenings or changes in public transportation schedules to enhance your stay.
- Santa Monica is dog-friendly but hotel pet policies and fees (typically $50-$200 per stay) vary. Confirm pet acceptance and related fees when booking if bringing animals.
- Request rollaway beds, cribs, or accessible rooms (such as step-free access or visual alarms) when reserving, as availability is limited. Call your hotel before arrival to confirm these arrangements for families or guests with accessibility needs.
