    Pros +

    • It is small and quiet and the food is excellent.
    • For Robert Burns fans, this is a must stop. And lots of Burns commemorations in the lounge area. I happened to get the room they said Burns stayed in, but they had no portrait, plaque, or other acknowledgement of the fact. I was delighted to be there, but disappointed that there was nothing in that room to celebrate the multiple stays by Scotland's most historic VIP.
    • Staff are very friendly and helpful Hotel is beautiful and spotless the meals are large and very tasty Breakfast is excellent and sets you up for the day

    Cons -

    • Stairs but it's an old building it's what you would expect
    • Liked it all
    • All good

Nicely appointed hotel in the centre of town with comfortable if slightly old fashioned furnishings .. Good breakfast .. parking on site

    All good

The hotel has a great atmosphere, lovely decor and great for everything Kirkcudbright has to offer. The room could have had a black out blind and for 1 hour on Monday, for every 2-3 mins housekeeping let a door bang that was very loud and literally shook the building. Not all residents have left the hotel during the day. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay.

Very friendly welcoming staff . Joanna gave us lots of information and we particularly liked the book containing ideas for walks ( and the walk of the day on the breakfast menu)

Nice comfortable room. Great dinner and breakfast. Well situated to explore town and surrounding country.

Room TV could have been on wall opposite bed rather than side wall

The Selkirk is our go to when in Scotland. Fabulous rooms, absolutely spotless, phenomenal Staff, (so warm, welcoming and absolutely nothing it too much trouble). The food is outstanding; breakfast is a glorious affair and the dining menu would not be out of place in Michelin Starred restaurant. Their fish pie is a taste sensation. The location is sublime, 3 mi utes walk takes one into picturesque Kirkcudbright itself. If you have the opportunity of being in the locale, stay at the Selkirk. Impossible to be anything but charmed!

    Absolutely nothing!

Perfect as a B&B and a nice base to explore. Small room but did the job! Great cooked to order breakfast Nice restaurant as well

The food was of excellent quality with a wide variety of choices. The dining room looked into the garden and like the rest of the hotel was stylishly decorated. Our room had a wide and comfortable bed and the bathroom was clean and bright.Staff all friendly and helpful A good private car park as well.

Steep stairs to upper floors quite difficult for my wife who uses a walking stick.

Lovely warm friendly hotel. It is situated in the centre of the town so easy walking. The staff were happy in their work and made us feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed, inclding a surprise lounge area.Breakfast had good choice and well cooked and we ate at the hotel in the evening and had some delicious meals. We would recommend and hope to return soon.

There was nothing we didn't like.

Our accommodation was upgraded to a Suite what was just prefect. Warm , comfortable and quiet. The food was exceptional and great value for money, and the staff could not have been more welcoming or pleasant. We have recommended both the Town and this hotel in particular to our large family. Thank you.

    Shower a bit dated

    6TrevorPosted on: 1-30-2025

breakfast was very good staff friendly and helpfulWas up graded to double room was nice but showers in the bath are difficult if you are older and not so good on your legssmall but ok car parklovely Georgian buildingThe discount given for the poor dinner

Over priced menu - dinner was over-rated and over priced far in above of charges from my own area. £10 for an average prawn cocktail £32 for rib eye steak of indifferent qualityshower in bathtoo many stairs but believe they do have some ground floor roomsI left a day early though I had paid £125 for room and came home
