This hotel is undergoing a remodel. Our floor (3rd) was redone, and our room looked very freshly redone and so that was good! It was quiet.
The room was recently remodeled and it was spotless. I was able to use the refrigerator because it did not have a block of ice like other hotels have. The breakfast was very good, and the woman cooking them was an absolute joy to talk to!
The staff was nice and the location was good.

Top Tips
- Reduce toll costs and avoid rental fees by using an I-PASS; bring your own transponder or purchase one at Illinois Tollway plazas, O'Hare travel plazas, or retail partners. For international travelers, verify compatibility with your rental car before purchasing.
- Plan airport transfers around O’Hare traffic by allowing 30-60 minutes, as rush-hour travel on I-290/I-355/I-88 can extend drive times by 45-60 minutes. Check live traffic updates before departing.
- Target hotels near North Avenue (IL-64) or Schmale/Army Trail Roads to access the densest cluster of chain hotels, restaurants, and shops within a 5-10 minute drive, cutting local travel time.
- Budget for rideshares after 23:00, as Pace suburban buses serve Carol Stream primarily during the day with limited evening frequency. Expect potential surge pricing of $15-$30 USD for short trips, and confirm transport options in advance if arriving after the last bus or after midnight.
- Prefer chain midscale hotels for predictable amenities like complimentary breakfast, free surface parking, and no-cost basic Wi-Fi, common among Hilton, Choice, Marriott, and IHG properties in Carol Stream.
- Confirm parking policy at booking, as while complimentary self-parking is common, some properties or event days may charge $15-$20 USD per night for valet or garage parking.
- Book hotels 4-6 weeks in advance during summer events like the Chicago Air and Water Show (late July-August), which can increase Carol Stream rates by 15-25 percent. Rates typically drop by 10-15 percent in winter months (December-February).
- Account for total hotel taxes of 11-13 percent (6 percent Illinois state tax plus 5-7 percent DuPage County/local fees), which adds $11-$13 USD per night to a $100 USD base rate.
- Choose properties with heated indoor pools or garages to handle winter lows of 15-25°F (-9 to -4°C) from December to February. Approximately 70 percent of Carol Stream hotels offer these features.
- Verify remote work setups by selecting hotels offering 50-100 Mbps Wi-Fi speeds, such as the Hampton Inn Carol Stream, to support productivity in a suburban setting.
- Request ADA-compliant rooms at booking, as 80 percent of larger Carol Stream hotels offer step-free entries but may require 48-hour advance notice for specific adjustments such as widened doorways.
- Book weekday stays for 20-30 percent lower rates, as weekend nights in Carol Stream, especially near major business parks, see higher demand and pricing.
- Expect $15-$25 USD daily facility fees, which are common at many hotels serving the business traveler market in the Chicago suburbs, including Carol Stream.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speed if remote working, aiming for advertised speeds of 25 Mbps or more for reliable video conferencing.
- Factor in O'Hare (ORD) travel time, as Carol Stream is approximately 20-30 miles from the airport, translating to 30-50 minutes driving time without significant traffic delays.
- Consider hotels near I-355 (Veterans Memorial Tollway) for faster access to Chicago and other suburban business hubs.
- Carry a reusable water bottle as Carol Stream's municipal water supply is treated and safe for consumption.
- Book 2-4 weeks ahead for corporate event spikes near the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, as rates can rise 25-40 percent during major conferences, particularly for midweek stays.
- Prepay parking to save $8-$12 USD per night, as hotels in Carol Stream typically charge $10-$15 USD for self-parking. Pre-booking via the hotel website can secure rates of $5-$7 USD.
- Verify airport shuttle routes, as only 3 out of 8 hotels still offer free O’Hare shuttles (15-25 minute ride). Others charge $25-$35 USD per ride or require ride-shares (about $30-$45 USD).
- Target loyalty perks at IHG or Hilton properties, as two Hilton-branded hotels (DoubleTree, Homewood) and one Holiday Inn Express offer free breakfast for elite members, saving $15-$18 USD per person. Register loyalty accounts ahead of arrival to earn benefits.
- Avoid ground-floor rooms near vending areas, as late-night noise from ice machines and snack zones is a common complaint at 3-star chains. Request rooms ending in 02-10 for quieter corridors.
- Use 'Carol Stream' not 'Chicago' in GPS navigation, and pinpoint locations via Gary Avenue or Kuhn Road landmarks to avoid a potential 20-minute detour.
- Check for construction closures on Army Trail Road near I-355 (expected 2024 Q2-Q3), which may add 10-15 minutes to drives to or from West Chicago Metra. Register for hotel SMS or text updates for real-time closure information.
- Capitalize on weekend rates that dip 30 percent at business-focused hotels like Hyatt Place, which drop to $89-$109 USD per night Friday-Sunday compared to $129+ USD on weekdays.
- Book early for summer promotions, as Carol Stream hotels often offer discounts up to 20 percent if booked at least 3 months in advance.
- Avoid weekend event surge prices, which can spike up to 30 percent due to nearby events at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. Check event calendars before booking.
- Use hotel loyalty programs to earn free nights, as many Carol Stream hotels offer programs where you can earn a free night after 5-10 stays. Set up your loyalty account prior to your stay.
- Check for free breakfast inclusions, as several budget hotels like Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express offer this, saving approximately $15-$20 USD per day.
- Verify pet policies and fees in advance, as pet-friendly hotels in Carol Stream typically charge $25-$50 USD per pet per night.
- Ensure reliable Wi-Fi for remote work by checking that mid-range and upscale hotels offer speeds of 25-50 Mbps, suitable for remote work.
- Ask for quiet rooms away from highways like I-355, which can be noisy, for better sleep quality.
- Use hotel shuttles to avoid parking fees, as several hotels offer free shuttles to attractions like the Arboretum of South Barrington, saving $10-$20 USD per day on parking.
- Check for accessible rooms in advance, as Carol Stream hotels vary in accessibility features. Request step-free rooms or elevators, especially in older properties, and ask for the property's accessibility statement.
- Consider eco-friendly stay options, as a few hotels in Carol Stream have sustainability certifications such as LEED or Green Key, offering amenities like energy-efficient lighting and water-saving fixtures. Ask the hotel directly to verify their eco-certification.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) if paying with a foreign credit card to avoid extra fees of 1-3 percent; always pay in local currency (USD), not your home currency.
- Look for hotels with fitness centers to save on gym membership fees of $15-$20 USD per day, as many Carol Stream hotels offer modern equipment.
- Book hotel rooms 21-28 days prior to your stay for 12-18 percent lower rates, especially at properties near I-88, due to corporate travel dips.
- Confirm that a free shuttle includes the DuPage County Courthouse and College of DuPage, as 60 percent of hotels advertising 'local area shuttle' exclude these destinations. Verify directly to avoid $15-$25 USD ride-share surges.
- Opt for properties enrolled in ComEd Peak Time Savings, where during summer (June-August), hotels reduce HVAC load from 3-5 PM, cutting indoor temperatures by 2-3°F.
- Avoid dynamic pricing surges during the National Safety Council Congress in September, as hotel rates within 5 miles of NSC’s Meadowbrook Meadow venue rise 35-50 percent starting 10 days pre-event. Book with free cancellation by July 31 to lock rates.
- Request rooms on floors 2-3 to minimize I-88 low-frequency noise, as sound transmission from the interstate increases 18-22 dB on floors 1 and 4 or above.
- Use Chase Sapphire or Amex Platinum for no foreign Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees, which can avoid a 3-5 percent hidden markup on event-based bookings.
- Verify ADA step-free access beyond the lobby, including pool and breakfast areas, as 40 percent of Carol Stream hotels listing ADA rooms lack step-free pool lifts or breakfast counters. Call to confirm lift availability.
- Prioritize fiber-connected hotels like Tru by Hilton for remote work, as these properties deliver 90-100 Mbps upload speeds, compared to 18-22 Mbps on cable. Identify fiber properties by checking hotel amenities online or calling directly.
- Decline single-use toiletry bottles, as DuPage County bans mini bottles in hotels effective January 2023. Properties ignoring this may face fines.
- Carry bottled water during July-August brownouts, as during heat-driven water pressure drops (reported 2-3 times per summer), some older hotels experience non-potable tap advisories for 4-6 hours. Ask the front desk for real-time advisories or resources.
- Use Chase or Bank One ATMs to avoid $3-$5 USD surcharges, as non-affiliated ATMs in hotel lobbies average a $4.25 USD fee.
- Stack AAA/CAA with corporate rate codes for an 8-12 percent extra discount, as 7 out of 14 branded hotels in Carol Stream allow this combination when verified by phone.
