Top Tips
- Plan ahead by booking Oakdale hotels 8-12 weeks before the Minnesota State Fair (late August), when 1.8-2.0 million visitors fill area rooms. Check for flexible cancellation options or loyalty member early access to secure preferred dates.
- Driving from Oakdale to Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) takes 30-45 minutes off-peak. Allow an extra 10-20 minutes during peak times. Many hotels offer onsite parking or can arrange shuttle or rideshare services; verify options when booking.
- For a quieter stay, request a room away from I-694 at check-in, as hotels cluster near this freeway. Guests sensitive to noise, light, or allergens should confirm additional room features for comfort.
- Oakdale hotels typically offer free self-parking, saving $15 daily compared to St. Paul or Woodbury, where parking fees and 10-25 extra minutes of travel are common. For electric vehicle or accessible parking, verify availability with your hotel.
- Public transit from Oakdale to downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul often takes 40-60+ minutes with transfers. For trips under 45 minutes, choose a rental car or rideshare; some hotels offer shuttle or group ride services, so check amenities when reserving.
- Minnesota lodging is subject to a 6.875% state sales tax, plus possible city or county lodging taxes. Before booking, review your hotel's tax and fee breakdown—many chains provide this detail in your reservation summary.
- Check your hotel's website or call the front desk to confirm EV charger access and room accessibility, as not all Oakdale hotels guarantee dedicated parking or accessible rooms. Many major hotel brands list these amenities in the booking process.
- Broaden your dining and shopping choices by visiting Woodbury Lakes or Woodbury Commons, both 5-12 minutes by car from Oakdale hotels. Some properties offer guest shuttles or can arrange meal delivery from popular restaurants; ask at reception.
