Such a wonderful hotel! The staff was very friendly and accommodating! We arrived early, after driving for 21 hours, and they were so kind to let us check in early and shower. Clean rooms, comfy beds, great breakfast, great staff! Will stay again!

Clean and staff
The staff was friendly and helped us to select another room twice. Best part about our stay was the staff. But will not choose to stay here again as the facility is not very clean, no hot breakfast and even if there was I would not want to eat there.

Clean comfortable and convenient. It?s more made for long term stays but was very serviceable and quiet. Walked to restaurant right behind.
All around this is a very nice place. We have stayed at this hotel before a few years back so we already knew what we were getting into. The room was clean other than some stains on both comforters. We would definitely stay again if we get that way again.

Top Tips
- Book 2 to 4 months ahead for summer events, as local hotel prices near the Sheyenne River Valley surge 15-25% during June-August festivals like Sheyenne Riverfest. Some hotels offer festival-specific packages; check before booking.
- Factor in a 7-10% total lodging tax plus fees on your bill, as Valley City applies a 5% state tax and 2-5% local fees. Hotel invoices typically itemize these taxes and fees, so review your booking summary or ask the front desk for a detailed breakdown.
- Verify Wi-Fi speeds for remote work; most Valley City hotels offer 10-25 Mbps download speeds, enough for basic video calls. Contact the front desk to ask if upgraded high-speed options are available, especially at major hotel chains.
- Request heating checks for winter stays (November-March), as temperatures average -10 to 0°F and older hotel systems may be inconsistent. Ask about extra blankets or in-room portable heaters, especially in heritage or budget hotels.
- Plan ATM usage to avoid fees, as Valley City's limited banks charge 2-3% foreign ATM fees plus $15 per transaction. Many major hotels offer cash-back at reception, or consider using cards for purchases to minimize ATM visits.
- Book 6 to 8 weeks ahead for Red River Valley events, since rates rise 30-50% during National Sunflower Festival in August and VCSU graduations. Hotel loyalty program members may get early-access rates or discounts during these periods.
- Pick an I-94 corridor hotel for under 5-minute highway access; 14 of 17 hotels sit within 2 miles of Exit 291. Many properties offer complimentary parking and some feature EV charging stations.
- Expect 5-7% total lodging tax and no hidden resort fees, as Valley City hotels do not charge resort or amenity fees as of 2024. Confirm this at check-in or in your reservation details, as policies may change.
- Request step-free access in advance, as only 3 of 17 lodging options (Super 8, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn) are fully ADA-compliant. Specify other accessibility needs such as visual alarms or grab bars when booking—major chains may offer additional features.
- Decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC) when paying by card, as gas stations and some hotel terminals may add a 3-5% markup. Always pay in US dollars, and confirm the currency selected with hotel staff before completing your transaction.
- Valley City tap water meets all EPA standards, so bottled water purchases are unnecessary. Many hotels provide complimentary water refill stations or reusable bottles at check-in.
- Don’t expect a 24/7 front desk at most properties; 12 of 17 hotels use lockbox or unstaffed entry after 10 PM, so pre-arrange key pickup for late arrivals. Provide your arrival time when booking and confirm late check-in procedures with the hotel, or choose a major chain if you need round-the-clock check-in.
