This is an old hotel that is being renovated. The room I was in had seemingly new everything except for an old sofa that was virtually dissolving. The bathroom had been completely redone and the room was pretty up to date.

The location, comfortable mattress and price are attributes that have me going back whenever I?m in QC. ?Adequate? for my needs describes this joint, definitely outdated + unimpressive but just right if you do not like spending $---/night just to sleep.

Where to stay in Quebec City
Learn about the top neighbourhoods of Quebec City
Old Quebec encompasses the fortified area of Quebec City with cobblestone streets, 17th century European architecture and plenty of charm, right down to its horse-drawn carriages and street performers. Also nestled within this downtown sector is Parliament Hill, the convening place of Quebec's National Assembly, as well as the Quebec City Convention Centre and the Observatoire de la Capitale, which welcomes visitors to marvel at its stunning 360-degree views of Quebec City.
Conveniently located between Laval University and the Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport, this area caters to Quebec visitors seeking great shopping and easy proximity to downtown attractions. Visitors are within close reach of the spectacular Laurier Quebec, the largest mall in eastern Canada and Quebec's second most popular tourist spot, after Old Quebec. In fact, more than 13 million people come to the shopping destination each year. Speaking of Old Quebec, this area is located just 15 minutes southwest of this charming historic area, easily reached via Highway 175.
Visitors get the best of both worlds here - fantastic proximity to the adjacent Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport and a convenient location nestled within scenic parkland and recreation. Visitors can play a round at the Club de Golf Albatros or enjoy year-round outdoor recreation at Base de Plein Air de Sainte-Foy, a great spot for hiking, bird watching, boating and cross-country skiing.

Top Tips
- Expect federal and provincial sales taxes totaling about 14.98% (GST 5% + QST 9.975%) added to hotel room rates, with a separate municipal lodging or tourism tax commonly applied per night. Confirm exact taxes both during booking and at check-in, as they can add over 15% to your listed rate.
- Compare Saint-Roch and Sainte-Foy for better nightly value; these neighborhoods generally offer lower rack rates and newer business-oriented hotels than Vieux-Québec (Old Town), which charges a premium for location and heritage rooms. Use OTA filters for 'Saint-Roch' and distance to Château Frontenac to find modern amenities within 1.5 km of Old Town, and ask if the hotel provides city maps or local partner perks at check-in.
- Staying in Lévis can mean lower nightly rates and fewer parking challenges, with a 12-minute ferry ride (Traversier Québec–Lévis) connecting you to downtown Québec City. The ferry terminal is generally accessible for wheelchairs and strollers; enjoy scenic city views as you commute and confirm step-free terminal access if needed.
- Book 60-90 days ahead for major festivals like Festival d'été (early July) and Québec Winter Carnival (late January–February) to avoid price spikes or full bookings, as these events push downtown occupancy high. Check if your hotel offers festival shuttles, extended breakfast hours, or flexible cancellation, especially during event periods.
- In Old Québec or heritage hotels, confirm step-free access in advance as cobblestone streets, staircases, and segmented wings are common. Request a step-free route and an elevator-served or ground-level room in writing, and ask about features like tactile signage, visual alarms, or hearing assistance; staff often provide alternatives if some accessibility upgrades are unavailable.
- Downtown hotels usually charge about $15 to $30 USD (CAD 20–40) per night for onsite parking or valet. Ask at check-in for hotel discounts, EV charging, or local parking maps, and consider public transit or nearby municipal lots, which may require a 5-10 minute walk.
- Québec City Jean Lesage Airport (YQB) is 12 km west of downtown, with taxi or shuttle service taking 25-35 minutes and costing $22 to $34 USD (CAD 30–45). The RTC express bus (#76 or #80) is a cost-effective alternative; travelers needing step-free access should confirm with shuttle providers, as some vehicles may have stairs.
- To avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), always request ATM withdrawals and card charges in CAD, not your home currency, as DCC can add 2-5% to transactions. Most hotels and urban ATMs accept major cards, but ask the front desk for the nearest bank branch ATM if uncertain; large hotels sometimes accept multiple currencies, but CAD payments give the best value.
- If remote work is important, check Wi-Fi reliability in business hotels and newer properties in Sainte-Foy or Saint-Roch, where strong speeds are typical. Some chains offer premium plans (often free for loyalty members); verify on check-in with a speed test (aim for at least 25 Mbps down) and contact the front desk if speeds fall short.
- For November to March stays, prepare for snow and sub -15°C temperatures by bringing waterproof boots and traction aids. Major hotels typically offer indoor gear storage, heated lobbies, and traction mats; ask if snow grips or umbrellas are available for guests and check with the front desk for current walkability updates during winter events.
