My experience changed drastically once staff put me in a non-smoking room to the back of the building. It was quiet and the room & linen was super clean compared to the smoking side. If you book for nonsmoking just make sure to clarify at checkin.

Top Tips
- Book at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead for stays in Midlothian, especially during summer (June-August) or major events like the Dominion Riverrock Festival in May, when rates frequently increase by 20-35%. Set rate alerts for your chosen dates to catch any early price drops.
- Choose Midlothian hotels to save an average of 15% compared to downtown Richmond, and take advantage of complimentary parking, which typically saves $15 to $30 per night. Confirm the parking policy before finalizing your booking as some properties vary.
- For reliable Wi-Fi (50-100 Mbps), select chain hotels such as Hampton Inn. Older motels along Route 60 can have much lower speeds (below 10 Mbps); verify speed by calling before booking if high-speed internet is essential.
- Be aware that higher-end hotels near Swift Creek Reservoir may add amenity fees of $15 per night. Ask the hotel to itemize all compulsory charges before committing to a reservation.
- Join loyalty programs like Hilton Honors or Marriott Bonvoy to access free breakfast at most Midlothian hotels, potentially saving $15 to $18 per person daily. Register before your stay to maximize this benefit.
- Request upper-floor rooms at budget motels along Midlothian Turnpike to reduce the risk of petty theft. Properties with 24/7 front desks, including Courtyard by Marriott, offer greater peace of mind for security-conscious travelers.
- Request a room facing away from train tracks near Chesterfield Avenue to minimize noise from CSX freight trains at night. For additional quiet, ask about north-facing rooms at hotels like Quality Inn.
- Only 4 out of 12 Midlothian hotels provide free shuttle service to Richmond International Airport (RIC), while rideshares (Uber/Lyft) usually cost $32 to $40 one way. Confirm shuttle timings at booking, especially for early flights.
- For stays longer than two nights, select a hotel offering in-room microwaves and refrigerators; 88% of extended-stay properties include full kitchens, which can save a family of four around $15 to $25 per day on meals.
- Opt for ENERGY STAR-certified hotels like Hilton Garden Inn Richmond/Midlothian in summer, as these typically maintain indoor temperatures 3-5°F cooler on days above 90°F, providing greater comfort during heat waves.
- When planning remote work in summer, verify backup power for Wi-Fi and elevators. Some older hotels (built before 2010) may lack uninterruptible power supplies during Dominion Energy outage drills; ask about business continuity options.
- At checkout, choose to pay in US dollars and decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC), which commonly adds about 5.2% to costs compared to the standard exchange rate.
- Accessible rooms with roll-in showers are limited in Midlothian—only 30% of hotels offer them, averaging 3-4 rooms per property. Book early and call to confirm step-free access and bathroom features if required.
- Customary in the area: tip housekeeping $5 to $15 per stay (not per day) in chain hotels. Leave a lump-sum tip at checkout to match local etiquette and recognize service.
