Pros +
- Clean , comfortable accommodation and reasonably priced. Great breakfast.
- Well run hotel. Extremely helpful staff. Excellent choice of food at Dinner time. Breakfasts were well presented with an extensive choice of hot and cold items. The hot breakfast was excellent and exactly what you asked for. Beds were very comfortable. The room was tidied every day which I liked. I had an afternoon off from work and I took the X55 into Edinburgh. The bus stop was a short walk away ()for me) on a main road. I took the bus because Edinburgh is a nightmare for both driving and parking.
- Fabulous location for a family event near by .Also close to excellent shopping centre Ian on Reception made our stay excellent very knowledgeable young man. And made us feel so very welcome..The young boy on Saturday and the young lady in the Sunday morning were so welcoming amd nothing g was too much trouble for them.
Cons -
- Nothing really. It's a rambling oldish building but I'm fine with that.
- Being a Scottish lass living in England was really hoping for tattie scones and square slice on the cooked breakfast but alas it was not to be.maybe you should think about putting it on the breakfast.
- NOT IMPRESSED!!On first arrival, the foyer looks very inviting and pleasant. The staff are cheerful and welcoming. We were given our room key card for the guest area, and once we passed through the door, there was a dramatic difference in the decor of the foyer; the hallway looked outdated. Once we arrived in our room, we were a bit shocked, as the furniture was old, something you might find in an elderly person’s home. Upon inspection, we were very pleased with the walk-in shower. The bathroom was bright and modern. We proceeded to unpack, and when we moved the bed runner, we noticed the marks, so we decided to check the rest of the bed. There were what looked like boot marks on the pillowcase, and we found body hair on the sheets. I went and spoke to the receptionist, and she got the manager, and he asked me to send him the photos, as he was disgusted and said he would upgrade us. So we went and checked the bed in the new room, and it was clean, so we made several trips moving our belongings only to find out that the showerhead was faulty and did not work. This bathroom was not bright, and it had seen better days. There was a shower over a bath with a shower curtain; how was this an upgrade? We couldn’t fathom it. So we moved everything back to the original room and explained the situation to the manager. He checked and confirmed it was broken. I was now tired and angry and asked for clean bedding, saying I would change the bedding myself. The manager refused, and he changed the bedding. Later, we went to the bar and were shocked, as we felt we had just walked into a canteen with several TVs showing old dramas with huge subtitles like those they have in hospital waiting rooms. It wasn’t pleasant, so we had one drink and left and never returned during our three-night stay. We decided to have breakfast, and the choices were great if you had the continental; as for the warm breakfast, the bacon was greasy and the sausage hard.

Super friendly staff - always here with a smile!
The room was really old and needed a fresh up. The smell in most of the parts of the hotel reminded me of how it smelled where my great-grandmother lived. It smelled very „old“. We paid way too much for this, even though it was New Years Eve.
Nice accommodation easy to find , staff were great . Room was clean and comfortable
The beautiful surroundings, well kept and beautiful gardens.Sitting areas all around to enjoy the scenery.Beautiful modern furnishings inside throughout hotel. The staff were so friendly and very approachable.
The only thing if I had to pick would be the dinner menu, the food was amazing and very tasty. But if you were going to stay for a few days I think we would get bored of the same food on offer.Maybe consider doing “Specials”.
Nice hotel and location were there for a wake so handy for location.
Very old fashioned and for the proce not as expected 20mins from Scotland Capital city.
Good selection of continental and hot food.
We didnt get the chance to look at the menu before we were asked if we would like tea/coffee. Hot chocolate was on the menu but not offered. We did however order it after breakfast. We noticed that continental was offered as well as our hot food. We selected continental prior to a hot breakfast but no time given to eat it. Had we been staying for more than one night we wouldve ordered hot food after we'd eaten continental.
Very good breakfast and lunch in the bistro was excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Breakfast, room, staff very friendly and helpful
Didn’t get a good night sleep. TV blaring in next room until late, and a man with a horrendous cough which went on all night. Wall seemed paper thin Itwas third time I had stayed in hotel over a month. Food was ok, fresh but most choices in batter or chips with everything
The menu in the cafe bar had good vegetarian options and was well-priced.
The room wasn't as quiet as id have liked - noise from across the hassle could be heard through the door
