Lovely bar area and friendly staff.
There was no lift for us to use.
Clean and friendly good position good for my visit.
Breakfast was amazing, room was a good size. Location was spot on for what we needed
Room was very warm
Breakfast was delicious and plenty of it, set us up for the busy day ahead. Lady who served us was lovely and friendly!
Room 206 was very clean and comfortable but needs attention to the ceiling and hand basin tap and general decor.
The best hotel bed I've slept in
No plug next to the bed and TV reception was terrible
Nice room, nice bathroom, comfy bed, clean. All you expect from a hotel room. Reception always pleasant and helpful.
Radiator wasn’t very hot so room a little cold.
Breakfast was lovely , very well presented, very generous portions and lots of choice. The room was spotlessly clean, bed was very comfy had a great nights sleep.
Couldn't sleep with the window open due to traffic noise. some areas of the hotel could do with a little upgrade, stair well carpets. Although lots of parking in a pay and display carpark very little for the actual hotel
The room was lovely, clean, and all facilities were available, i.e., kettle, tea, coffee, and hairdryerlovely breakfast
No plug by the bed or at the side. I have a sleep apnea machine and had to borrow an extension, which had to go across the room from the plug available, which caused a trip hazzard.
the price was good value, room warm, staff helpful - my elderly mother was also staying and on arrival staff changed our rooms so she was on ground floor and we were nearby. Bed very comfortable, breakfast excellent.
We were in Room 304. When I was using the shower the shower head fell off and on examination it was clear it had not been fitted correctly - smooth connection pushed onto a thread. It landed with a thud in the bath, just missing my foot which it would have broken. Had it hit someone on the head, particularly a child this would have caused a serious injury. I reported this to the receptionist, hopefully something has been done and checks carried out in other rooms.
Room was cheap for two nights however the maintenance in the hotel is lacking Heating could not be worse - radiators were unable to be adjusted and spent first night wide awake did to heat. Staff happily moved us - can’t fault the team at all!
Rooms
The evening Reception lady was very helpful, even remembering us from our last visit. The water was hot when it came out of the tap. The toiletries were very nice. The towels were big and fluffy. The room was spacious. A warm extra blanket was provided. Our room was quiet, as requested.
The radiator wasn't hot enough, nor was the heated towel rail.We were unable to have breakfast because we had not ordered it in advance. Therefore, no staff had been asked to come on shift for breakfast.
Well the good score is for cleanliness and for the comfy bed. Frankly thats it.
Receptionist needs to be reminded she was the first person guests have contact with. She may have had a bad day, but as other family guests booked in next day she was exactly the same. She was rude, everything was too much trouble and to be told that the disabled entrance, "just drop her off by the bin area" then take the car to the carpark. Eventually told we may have to use service lift but would have to get someone - obviously this would be inconvenient. The room, despite being large had 1 available socket, so to recharge 2 phones plus use medical equipment overnight was a major problem. Another meeting with the rude receptionist. Breakfast was awful, tea and coffee were so weak it was pathetic, we were not offered toast as another guest was, breakfast was shifted on second day to bistro area, down a flight of stairs and up another- not good for two disabled guests but frankly felt we could not ask the receptionist to do anything. How on earth this place got any awards is shocking. certainly not disabled friendly.
Large comfortable beds in good-sized double rooms. The lounge bar does a mix of bar meals and light bites - which are tasty. The hotel is located right in the centre of Old Whickham. The staff are courteous, friendly and helpful.
We couldn't fault it.
The staff were brilliant and went out of their way to look after my elderly parents. Helped them find their way around the hotel and let them use the service lift to get to breakfast on Christmas Day ( no customer lift- stairs only). Room warm, clean and comfortable
Not ideal if you have mobility problems. Only real step free access meant parking in the service access/ bin area so that my parents could walk to reception, otherwise steep steps from the car park.Mum couldn’t use the shower as over a high sided bath. Accessible room wasn’t available
Room was a decent size warm & welcoming on a cold day
Carpet could have been cleaner
As we were going to son’s who lives in Whickham though the Gibside would be ideal. Close proximity to son’s house.
Bar not open in the evening?? The Gibside hasn’t been open over Christmas the last couple of years so we’ve always stayed at the Metro Centre Marriott hotel. Which is where we’ll be going back to next Christmas. The bar is open so you can chill out after a busy Christmas day.
Housekeeping staff very attentive and friendly Bedding clean and fresh, plenty of fresh towels and teas and coffee . Quiet hotel.
Carpets in room could do with a freshen. Not the housekeeping staffs fault. Carpets need replaced. Flickering bedside lights.
The room was warm and comfortable. Everything worked. The food was good and reasonably priced. The staff were lovely and helpful. The bed was super comfortable.
Property was clean and well presented. Christmas devs were fab breakfast was good
Honestly one of the best hotels I've stayed in. Just one suggestion, please see what I have said, i didn't like
On entering the room, it was extremely warm, which I accept and gratefully as it was very cold and windy outside, but i have a suggestion that the complementary drinks where you supply two small bottles of milk you should consider if you would like to keep the fresh milk idea, that you install mini fridges in the room as the milk was very warm and not wecoming so i did not have a tea.
