Pros +
- Close to beach, amazing gardens great pool
- Breakfast was good and the pool was excellent.Gardens were beautiful and access to the seafront.Railway was nicely located and enabled us to travel with ease.
- Had a lovely stay at The Cliffden. The staff were lovely, the room was clean and comfortable and the location was great. Although I don't have a dog, I do love them and it was nice to see that this hotel accommodates them. The breakfast was very nice alsoWe will definitely be staying there again
Cons -
- The menu was a bit limited and didn't seem the same one we looked at on line. The kitchen seemed to be struggling to keep up, and the option of the 8 oz gammon steak to have a £10 supplement to be added was a little puzzling.
- -Service at reception was slow at times and other reception staff were around but they did not support with queues-We were told to place sign on door to have room cleaned but it was not done. We were told it would be done the next day (and it was on list to be cleaned) but late in afternoon house keeping knocked on door and said they had put stuff away and only just seen it! And it was not done as it should be.
- The property is old and so the floor boards in the rooms around you creaked when people were walking around. The evening menu in the hotel restaurant was not great. Very limited. But it is just a 5 minute walk into town for more places to eat.

The position of the hotel manager s perfect. In 7 acres of landscape gardens. You go through a private gate onto the beach. Plus it has its own indoor pool. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly.

Staff very good, location excellent, lovely traditional hotel, good breakfast.
Attention to detail in the cleaning of the bathroom, marks on walls of the room, but these were minor details.
Lovely room. Lovely area. Breakfast was very tasty and plenty of it. We also had a lovely meal in the evening we arrived.
Beautiful grounds and location, lovely lounge and dining area with sea view
The room became very hot in the evening
Well located hotel, good indoor pool and huge gardens.
Parking lot was pretty small for the size of the hotel.
The old building, the staff, the parking, the pool. It was a hidden gem and reminded me of old style poirot hotels.
Ability to take the dog in. Range and quality of food.Slightly out of the centre of Teignmouth but within easy reach of shops, bars, eateries.Beautiful grounds just a short walk to the beach. Not too hilly.
Not enough staff in the breakfast room. They were rushed off their feet.Tended to run out of things like croissants for a time while more were cooking.
I liked the friendliness of the staff and the way they all seemed to be working as a team and looking out for one another. Everyone was really helpful and friendly.
The windows were letting in an awful breeze all night despite being shut, and the decor was a little shabby but these are really minor considering my request for a bath was fulfilled and the bed was comfy and it was clean. Just a little constructive feedback
The lixation, by the sea, comfortable beds and breakfast selection.
The the bathroom smelt strongly of bleach, an air-freshener would have been good.
3rd stay here, staff are very friendly, pool is lovely, breakfast was very nice, lovely grounds and close to everything
This time our room was quite small, and the outdoor corridor very creaky when people walking about at night and early hours, walls seemed to be thin we could here pretty much all the conversation next door
The location was just 2 min walking from the beach. The swimming pool was very safe, clean, and well ventilated. The staff were very polite and helpful, and the breakfast was good and included in the price.
There were many pets in the building, and the carpet smelled unpleasant. The bathroom was missing a toilet brush and slippers, which I would expect at this standard. The room felt quite dated and not recently renovated. The swimming pool itself was clean, well-ventilated, and enjoyable. However, it is located in a separate building, so I had to walk back to my room while wet, which was inconvenient.
Great location, friendly staff, pleasant furnishings, welcoming pool and gardens
The hotel was very warm which in February was lovely. The staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived. Jo was fantastic, brilliant at her job but even more impressive with people and treated us like royalty. Amanda was wonderful too, we were surprised she’d not long started working at The Cliffden because she was so good and made us so welcome
I couldn’t fault it
We liked everything about the hotel. Excellent location with direct access within minutes of promenade. Beautiful gardens, indoor swimming pool. Very friendly and helpful staff. A calm relaxed atmosphere. Good breakfast in a room with a view if you wanted it. Hotel was always a pleasant temperature. Diverse age range of residents. Good complimentary parking. Everything you needed in your room, very comfortable bed. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Also very dog friendly, which we personally loved.
There wasn't anything we didn't like, however, now we've been there and seen the beautiful gardens, we would definitely book a garden view room when we visit again, which we definitely will.
Out of season break which was excellent value for money. Lovely breakfast and comfortable cosy rooms. What makes this hotel special are the friendly, helpful staff.
A little tired and dusty in places
The staff were very friendly and the hotel is characterful. The swimming pool was a big plus for me. It is 15metres which allowed for some actual lengths. tHe location to the train station and town is very convenient and it was good to be able to park. I had a big bath in my room which was good.
Unfortunately, my room was adjacent to the main road and was only single glazed, so it was actually very noisy. If booking online, I would recommend phoniong the hotel and trying to choose a room away from teh main road.
