Honestly, everything was fine until you didn't refund my deposit. There was absolutely no reason why the deposit should have been kept. No one in my family smoke and the room was cleaned by us before leaving. That's just the kind of people we are. Tidy.

Top Tips
- Book hotels near the Tacoma Dome at least 6 weeks in advance for event nights. Prices can surge by 40-60% during concerts or sporting events compared to off-peak rates, and last-minute bookings face limited availability. Use hotel apps for real-time price tracking and free cancellation options to optimize timing and flexibility.
- Choose hotels in South Tacoma to avoid downtown parking fees. Properties near S. 38th St. often include free parking, saving $15 to $35 per night, and give access to the T Line Light Rail with downtown transit in 12 minutes for a $2.50 fare. Ask about shuttle services or park-and-ride partnerships, and remember to follow local transit etiquette like quiet cars and proof of payment.
- For remote work, confirm Wi-Fi speed with the hotel before booking. Downtown hotels average 25-50 Mbps download, while budget properties near I-5 may throttle to under 15 Mbps during peak hours, which can cause video call lag. Request premium (paid) Wi-Fi options and inquire about business center access if you require stable, high-speed connectivity.
- Request water-facing rooms at Ruston Way hotels for a quieter stay. Rooms with Commencement Bay views, such as those at Silver Cloud Inn, cost $30 to $50 more per night but reduce freeway noise by up to 70%. Verify if accessible room features are available in water-view categories, as layouts and accessibility may vary.
- Redeem loyalty points for weekend stays at mid-range chains like Hilton Garden Inn or Courtyard. Weekend point redemptions typically yield 0.8-1.2¢ per point, compared to 0.5¢ on weekdays due to lower cash rates. Check for bonus point promotions or weekend specials, and always compare cash vs. points value before booking.
- Check for military discounts if you qualify, as over 20 hotels near JBLM offer 10-15% off for active or retired military with valid ID. Some properties extend discounts to veterans. Have your ID ready at check-in and call ahead to confirm current eligibility and rate availability.
- If you are sensitive to noise, avoid midweek stays near the Port of Tacoma, where truck traffic peaks Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 a.m., resulting in double the typical noise complaints compared to weekends. Hotels with soundproofed rooms or those located farther from the port report fewer disturbances, so ask about construction type when booking.
- Plan for Tacoma's combined 10.1% lodging and sales tax, which adds $10 to $20 per night to a $100 room. Hotel-branded websites typically show full prices, but double-check the final total before confirming your reservation to avoid extra fees.
- Choose downtown Tacoma hotels for lower property crime risk, with rates 30% below Hilltop. Attractions remain within a 0.5-1 mile radius, reducing exposure to break-ins. Chain hotels in Hilltop may offer added security features like gated parking or 24-hour surveillance, so verify these features if considering other neighborhoods.
- For winter stays, check the hotel's power reliability, as Puget Sound storms can cause outages lasting 1-3 hours in 20-30% of winters. Select hotels with backup generators, often found in Tacoma's coastal districts, and ask if in-room emergency flashlights or backup charging for medical devices are provided.
- Request step-free access in advance if required, since Tacoma's hilly terrain means elevator availability may vary between properties. About 70% of hotels report ADA-compliant features. Confirm specific accessibility needs, such as roll-in showers or visual alarms, directly with your hotel two weeks before arrival.
- Use credit cards for hotel payments to avoid local ATM withdrawal fees of $2 to $4, which is about 50% higher than the national urban average. Ask at check-in if the hotel uses cashless policies or accepts contactless payments to sidestep dynamic currency conversion fees.
- Tacoma's municipally treated tap water is safe to drink, as 2023 tests showed no lead violations. Bring a refillable bottle to save on bottled water costs and reduce single-use plastic. Some upscale hotels provide filtered water stations in lobbies, so ask at check-in for complimentary refill spots.
- For business stays, confirm the hotel's Wi-Fi policy and request a quiet room, as complimentary speeds and quiet hours vary. Many hotels average 25-50 Mbps, but speeds can dip at peak times, especially on lower floors or near transit lines. Ask about assignment to business or executive floors for added quiet and reliability.
- Monitor Tacoma air quality in August and September, when wildfire smoke pushes PM2.5 above EPA limits for 3-7 days per year. Most hotels lack in-room HEPA filtration, so travelers with respiratory conditions should check if the hotel permits portable air purifiers or supplies masks at the front desk during smoke events.
- Take advantage of bundled Amtrak plus hotel packages at The Hotel Murano, which offers 10-15% off for guests booking Amtrak and lodging together via their website. The property is located 0.4 miles from Tacoma Dome Station. Confirm package availability directly, as discounts and terms can change around peak travel dates.
