Top Tips
- Book your hotel 2-3 months in advance to secure lower rates during peak season. This can mean a 20-30% saving from June to August or around major events like the Maryland Renaissance Festival, as rates often increase sharply within 60 days of high-occupancy dates.
- Expect to pay a 10-12% hotel tax in Prince George's County, which is higher than the Maryland state average and will be added to your final bill. Compare total costs, including taxes, before booking.
- Hotels along I-495 or I-95 offer better value than staying directly in Washington D.C., with typical off-peak drive times of 30-45 minutes to downtown. Choose these locations if you want to balance access and budget.
- If you need reliable internet for remote work, confirm Wi-Fi speeds and accessible room availability directly before booking. Budget motels usually offer 10-50 Mbps, while newer or business hotels can reach 100+ Mbps.
- Upper Marlboro is largely car-dependent, with limited direct public transit. Plan for a car rental to access regional attractions, or check schedules for Metrobus and MARC train connections at Largo Town Center or Bowie State stations if you prefer not to drive.
- Additional fees such as resort fees or parking charges in this area usually range from $15-$25 per day and may not be listed up front. Always verify all mandatory charges before confirming your booking.
- Upper Marlboro’s municipal tap water meets US EPA standards and is safe to drink. Many hotels have accessible water dispensers or offer bottled water on request for guests with different needs.
- Major local events, including horse races at Laurel Park or concerts at FedExField (15 miles away), can push hotel prices up by 30-50%. Book 4-6 months in advance if visiting during these periods.
