I picked this hotel because it advertised hot breakfast. The clerk when we checked in assured us there would be waffles and coffee in the morning. I have low blood surgar so it's important I eat right away in the morning.
The true selling point of this Motel is that it's location is beautiful, rustic and in the heart of Felton area. For those looking to avoid the city, this was great.

Top Tips
- For UCSC events like commencement or move-in weekends, hotel rates in Scotts Valley often increase or sell out 4 to 8 weeks ahead. Book at least one month in advance to secure a room and avoid price surges. Check cancellation policies before booking to keep flexibility if plans shift.
- Santa Cruz Metro Route 17 (Highway 17 Express) offers direct transit to San Jose or downtown Santa Cruz in 40 to 60 minutes per trip. Use it to avoid parking difficulties and costs in downtown Santa Cruz. Purchase tickets through the Santa Cruz Metro app for convenience.
- Driving Highway 17 during weekday rush hour can add 20 to 40 minutes due to traffic congestion. Travel outside 6-9 AM or 3-7 PM when possible, and always check Caltrans QuickMap before departure, especially if rain or storms are forecast.
- Most Scotts Valley hotels, including Best Western and Holiday Inn Express, offer free onsite parking. If bringing an oversized vehicle or trailer, verify the policy when booking, as space may be limited. Electric vehicle charging stations vary by property, so confirm availability if needed.
- Public transit options from Scotts Valley are limited late at night, with most Santa Cruz Metro departures ending by 9:30–10:30 PM. Arrange rideshare or private transport for late arrivals or departures, and consider pre-booking with a rideshare app or through your hotel front desk for reliability.
- Scotts Valley mornings often start with coastal fog in summer, with temperatures typically ranging from 55°F to 75°F (13°C to 24°C) by afternoon. Pack layers to stay comfortable both inland and along the coast. For daily weather, check a local forecast site or ask your hotel front desk.
- Water conservation stages in Santa Cruz County can mean hotels limit daily towel and linen changes, especially during drought years. If you want daily housekeeping, request it at check-in and consider supporting local eco-initiatives by reusing towels.
- A 12% transient occupancy tax applies to all Scotts Valley hotel rates, adding about $24 to $36 to a $200 room. Include this in your travel budget to avoid unexpected costs at checkout. If booking online, check whether taxes are included in the quoted rate.
- If you need step-free entry or mobility assistance, request a ground floor room when booking, as elevator access can be limited in some hotels. For specific features like roll-in showers or visual alarms, confirm the availability of ADA-compliant rooms.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at ATMs or hotels to avoid extra fees of 3 to 5% when paying in USD with a foreign card. Review your card issuer's exchange rates ahead of travel to better estimate your costs.
- Hotel Wi-Fi speed in Scotts Valley varies from under 20 Mbps to 100 Mbps. Before booking, verify available speeds—ask for a recent speed test result if you need assured support for remote work or streaming.
- For step-free access or accessible rooms and bathrooms, only 3 of 8 hotels in Scotts Valley are fully ADA-compliant. Check directly with the hotel or on its website for specifics before booking. Note that accessible parking and entrances may vary by property.
