Very old, smells bad, the room furniture worn out, dented in, old looking, smelly, dirty looking. Carpet smelled which had the whole room smelling. Hallways, elevator and floors were super smelly & dirty. Not worth the money 2 stars

The location was great - close to where we wanted to go. The room layout was fantastic. We had a suite with 2 bedrooms - these each had a door so when someone was in the living area or the bathroom, people in the bedrooms were not disturbed.
The stafff...absolutely AMAZING! They were courteous, helpful, friendly, and they never made you feel like you were asking 'stupid questions'.
Staff was very professional and understanding of guest needs. Hotel employee was extraordinary she went above and beyond to accommodate to my needs!! Thank you so much!

Desk clerk very friendly. Room neat but not as clean as we have seen in the past. Think this may be due to staff being downsized. Furnishings beginning to show a little wear, altho bed still satisfactory, bedding was somewhat worn and torn in places.

Large rooms for the price and the fridge and microwave came in handy for late night snacks. Breakfast was a larger selection than expected. The breakfast staff did a great job of keeping the buffet area clean.

Top Tips
- Select your hotel based on your itinerary. Historic Downtown McKinney puts you within a 5-minute walk of the square’s dining and shops, while US-75/State-121 hotels offer direct highway access for business meetings or DFW flights. Check transit times - US-75 to DFW is typically a 30-45 minute drive.
- Rates often rise 20-30% during events like Oktoberfest, Arts in Bloom, and the December holiday festival. Reserve at least 1-2 months in advance for stays during these weekends to secure your preferred room and price.
- Texas rooms add up to 15% in taxes (state sales plus local occupancy), often excluded from initial rates. Review your final price breakdown before confirming payment to avoid unexpected costs.
- Public transport in McKinney is limited, so most travelers rely on cars or rideshare. Confirm onsite or complimentary parking policies before arrival. DFW Airport is 30-45 minutes by car; some hotels offer shuttles - verify schedule and fees ahead.
- Explore flexible booking. Many McKinney hotels allow free cancellation up to 24-48 hours pre-arrival, which protects against unexpected travel or weather changes common in Texas between May and September.
- Photo ID and credit card are required at check-in. Chains may set a minimum age of 18-21; confirm this policy with your hotel before booking, especially if traveling with younger guests.
- For work trips, select hotels near the US-75 business corridor offering high-speed Wi-Fi and meeting rooms. Request confirmation of Wi-Fi speed, often 25 Mbps or higher for business use, and workspace amenities when booking.
- Follow US tipping standards: 15-20% at restaurants, $15 per night for housekeeping (leave daily), $15 per suitcase for bellhops, and $15 for valet pickup. If unsure, confirm suggested amounts with the hotel concierge.
- Expect summer highs to reach 100°F (38°C) in June-August. Before arrival, confirm your room’s air conditioning and pool operating hours, as many outdoor pools close after mid-September.
- Pet-friendly hotels often charge $15 - $75 per stay or night, with weight limits around 40-50 lbs (18-23 kg). Request written pet policies, including any cleaning fees, in advance to avoid surprise charges.
- McKinney’s downtown is safe and family-oriented, but standard precautions apply at night. Use valet or secure hotel parking and store valuables in the in-room safe when available.
- If your plane lands after 21:00 at DFW or Love Field, pre-arrange airport transfers or rideshare. Wait times for pickups in McKinney’s suburbs can exceed 30 minutes late at night. Also, confirm late check-in instructions.
- Loyalty programs and affiliations (corporate, AAA, select credit cards) may offer perks like upgrades or free breakfast. Compare your eligible rates at booking and ask about local attraction discounts at check-in.
- Request accessible rooms with step-free entry, roll-in showers, or visual alarms before arrival. Supply your accessibility requirements directly - Texas hotels comply with ADA, but specific room types can be limited.
- Family-friendly options include suites with kitchenettes, free breakfast, and indoor pools, which are suitable for children during Texas heat waves or rare cold snaps. Reserve cribs or extra beds in advance, as supplies are limited.
- Solo travelers enjoy daytime shopping and cafes near the historic square. After 21:00, use rideshare apps for safe transport and choose hotels near the square or with 24-hour front desk service.
- Check updated health protocols for Texas hotels, such as current mask mandates or enhanced cleaning. All guests must show photo ID at check-in; some properties post health updates on their website before arrival.
- Noise-sensitive guests should request rooms away from elevators, vending areas, or street-facing sides, especially near US-75. Most hotels enforce quiet hours from 22:00-07:00.
- Front desks often recommend local favorites; try Hutchins BBQ, Mexican Sugar, or Franconia Brewery, all within a 1-mile (1.6 km) radius of the square. Some hotels partner with local tours - ask for discount offers.
- For travel-day convenience, request early check-in or late checkout directly. Fees vary, typically $15 - $50, but loyalty members can sometimes secure these at no extra cost.
- Most McKinney hotels are fully smoke-free indoors; violating policies can add a $250+ fee. Ask about designated outdoor smoking zones if you smoke.
- Know the location of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center (5252 W University Dr) and the nearest 24-hour pharmacy. Request printed maps from the hotel desk for emergency reference.
