Top Tips
- Book hotels 4-6 weeks ahead for Cactus League spring training to lock in rates 15-20% below last-minute quotes. Room rates spike 35-50% from late February to late March due to high demand; if hotels near Surprise are sold out, consider nearby neighborhoods.
- Skip resort fees by choosing non-resort hotels in Surprise; brands like Fairfield Inn and Holiday Inn Express usually do not charge daily resort or destination fees, which can be $15 to $35 USD per day. Check that your nightly rate includes key amenities like Wi-Fi or breakfast before booking.
- Hotels within 1 mile of Loop 303, such as Hampton Inn or Residence Inn, provide access to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in 25-30 minutes and are about 20 minutes from downtown Phoenix. Many newer builds offer direct ground floor access, helpful for travelers with mobility needs.
- Request a north-facing room to reduce afternoon heat exposure from May to September. Some hotels enable room selection during online check-in, allowing guests who are sensitive to heat to select a room type that can stay 8-10°F cooler than south or west exposures during temperatures of 105°F or higher.
- Use a credit card with rental car insurance when booking off-airport; off-site rental shuttles at places like Walmart Supercenter locations can save $15 to $25 USD per day. Confirm shuttle accessibility and operating hours if you require step-free entry or late-night return.
- Rates near Surprise Stadium increase 40-60% on spring training weekends, while weekdays run 20-25% cheaper for the same access. Weekday stays are also typically quieter and offer greater availability of accessible room types.
- Most Surprise hotels, about 60%, close pools by 7:00 PM due to noise ordinances. Some chain properties offer extended pool hours or indoor pools, which can be confirmed with the front desk after booking.
- Bring a reusable water bottle, as municipal water in Surprise meets EPA standards and guestrooms rarely provide free bottled water, saving you $3 to $5 USD per day. Water refill stations are often in lobby or gym areas, and guests with accessibility needs can request extra water delivery from housekeeping.
- Use Surprise Transit free rides within city limits from Monday to Saturday, 6:00 AM–7:00 PM, with stops at locations like Surprise Stadium and Bell Road retail. Check for low-floor entry and accessibility features before your journey.
- Select hotels with ENERGY STAR or WaterSense certification; certified properties use 15-20% less water during the April-June dry months and often offer amenities such as improved air quality or smart thermostats.
- Set in-room AC to 78°F or above to avoid a $25 USD per day utility surcharge; some extended-stay hotels apply these fees if AC is set below 75°F in peak summer (June-August). Guests sensitive to higher temperatures can request a portable fan or discuss medical cooling needs with the front desk.
- Pay by card and always select 'charge in USD' to prevent Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fees, which add 3-5% to your bill. U.S. hotels and car rental agencies often present DCC at check-in or check-out, so verify your choice to avoid extra charges.
