Top Tips
- Book 6-12 weeks in advance for Gold Coast stays during Schoolies (late November) and the December-January summer holidays, as hotels fill quickly. Check if your hotel offers special event policies or Schoolies/family packages during these periods to get added value or flexibility.
- Choose Broadbeach or Burleigh Heads for quieter evenings and a variety of dining, with Broadbeach offering direct G:link tram connections to key Gold Coast attractions. Discover beachfront cafes and local food markets within 400 m of most hotels for authentic coastal dining.
- Many hotels in Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach charge for parking, and city meters apply to most public spaces. Confirm parking options and fees with your hotel ahead - request accessible parking or EV charging availability if needed.
- Tap water is safe to drink citywide. If you need hypoallergenic bedding or enhanced cleaning due to allergies, contact your hotel before arrival - most top hotels can accommodate with advance notice and will advise of any extra charges.
- Swim only between the red and yellow flags on patrolled Gold Coast beaches, with most patrols operating 8:00-17:00, but schedules can vary. Check Surf Life Saving Queensland for your beach's hours, and confirm beach mat accessibility if required.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when offered, and pay in AUD at hotels, shops, and restaurants to avoid 1.5-3% higher fees. If unsure, ask staff before authorizing your card payment.
- Allow 30-45 minutes by car or rideshare from Gold Coast Airport to Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach; during major events or peak hours, allow up to 60 minutes. Ask your hotel if pre-booked shuttle services are available for smoother transfers.
- Take the G:link tram for trips between Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise - trams run every 7-8 minutes and offer step-free access for most stops. Pay using Go Card or contactless card, and confirm your hotel's walking distance from the nearest tram stop.
- If you plan to work remotely, ask your hotel about measured Wi-Fi speeds - basic service may be free, but higher tiers (30-100 Mbps) can carry a fee. Confirm if Ethernet connections or member perks are available for more reliable access.
- Request accessible or step-free rooms well ahead, especially if booking apartment-style hotels, as some properties may only have stair access. Ask about step-free routes, roll-in showers, or in-room visual alarms to meet your specific needs.
