The location - close proximity to several restaurants and some shopping. The only low point was it seemed that the area needed some infrastructure work. Not the hotels problem, but still noticeable.

The staff and the cleanliness. Location is great spot between Amherst and Northampton. Excellent location for college visits
The front desk clerk made my stay. She did her best to rectify the small items I requested (working remote control, where fitness room located, etc.) and time as friendly and professional.
I've stayed at this hotel twice. The first time my room dirty and run down but I never got a chance to leave a review. The second room was much better (cleaner and more up to date). I think its more on par with 2 star hotels and not a 2.5 star.

Top Tips
- Book early for event dates and holidays, as rooms often sell out and rates can rise by 20% or more for events like The Big E in West Springfield, concerts at MassMutual Center, and Bright Nights. Reserve as soon as your dates are set to avoid higher prices or limited selection.
- Choose your hotel location based on your priorities, such as museums, Basketball Hall of Fame, MGM, and Amtrak service near downtown/Union Station (within 0.5 miles), or quieter stays near Forest Park and Bright Nights (within 2 miles). Major hotel chains are found in both areas, so compare based on access needs.
- Compare the total price, including Massachusetts and Springfield occupancy taxes, which can add up to 14.45% to your bill. Ask the hotel for the exact nightly price before you book to avoid unexpected costs.
- If driving, prioritize hotels with free parking. Many Springfield hotels, especially downtown or near MGM, charge $15 to $25 per night for on-site or valet parking.
- Check transport links, as Union Station is the central rail and bus hub for Amtrak and PVTA, while Bradley International Airport (BDL) is about 18 miles (roughly 25 minutes by car) south in Windsor Locks, CT. Ask your hotel about shuttles and taxi options, especially for arrivals after 10 p.m.
- Select well-lit, active neighborhoods and use your hotel safe for valuables. Some Springfield neighborhoods are best avoided late at night; get safety guidance from hotel staff or check local police information.
- Confirm check-in rules, including photo ID and age. Some Springfield hotels require guests to be 21+ (especially casino hotels), while standard properties may allow check-in at 18+ with valid ID.
- Tip bell staff $1-$2 per bag, housekeeping $2-$5 per night, valet $2-$5 when your car is returned, and 15-20% for room service unless a service fee is already included on the bill.
- Ask for a higher floor or a room facing away from main roads or train lines to reduce noise, especially downtown. Most hotels enforce quiet hours between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.; verify housekeeping schedules if needed.
- When traveling with children, confirm family amenities like cribs, rollaway beds, connecting rooms, indoor pools, free breakfasts, and in-room fridge/microwave. Many Springfield hotels and chains offer these features, but request in advance during busy times.
- Business travelers should confirm reliable, fast Wi-Fi, business center hours, meeting room availability, and early breakfast (starting 6 a.m. in most downtown hotels). Proximity to MassMutual Center can save commuting time.
- Booking directly can earn you loyalty points, free upgrades, and flexible cancellation. Ask about price-match or direct-only offers before booking elsewhere.
- Many Springfield hotels allow pets, but most charge a non-refundable pet fee of $50-$100 per stay and may have size or breed restrictions. Always confirm the rules and policies, especially regarding unattended pets.
- If your plans might change, choose flexible or refundable rates. Event weekends often have strict cancellation policies, so verify refund deadlines before booking.
- Use the concierge or front desk for updated directions and recommendations to attractions like the Basketball Hall of Fame (under 1 mile from most downtown hotels), museums, and safe dining areas.
- Prepare for seasonal weather, as winter lows reach -5°C (23°F) and regular snow affects parking. Summers reach 27°C (80°F), so check room air conditioning and pack accordingly.
- Dining and nightlife options outside MGM and downtown close by 10 p.m., so check if your hotel offers in-room or 24-hour dining if you plan a late arrival.
- For accessible rooms or features like roll-in showers and visual alarms, make requests during booking, as ADA-compliant rooms are in limited supply and fill quickly during events.
- Standard policies include photo ID at check-in and strict no-smoking rules, with most hotels charging a $200 fee for violations. Check hotel websites for current health or COVID-19 protocols.
- Solo travelers should choose centrally located hotels with 24-hour front desks and safety ratings of 8.0 or higher. Use room safes and let a friend or family member know your itinerary.
- Leverage loyalty or member discounts like AAA, AARP, or corporate rates to save 10-15% off standard rates. Check for perks like free nights or waived parking linked to your status.
- Ask about late check-out or early check-in at booking or check-in. Many Springfield hotels accommodate requests for free or a $25 to $50 fee, depending on availability.
- Plan ahead and pre-book tickets for top attractions like the Basketball Hall of Fame, the Dr. Seuss Museum, and Bright Nights on weekends and holidays, as admissions sell out or offer timed slots.
- Write down key contacts, including hotel emergency procedures, Baystate Medical Center (main hospital), and the 24-hour front desk number. For emergencies, dial 911; for non-emergencies, ask the front desk for local police information.
