I don't like that I was locked outside where the tub was for over 5hrs. There was no phone or fire alarm to alert for help. I was dehydrated and drank from bathtub shower head. Water leaked on the floor and I fell and was injured.

Top Tips
- Book 3 to 6 months in advance for winter peak season in Islamorada, when hotel rates from November to April may climb 25%-50%. May to October off-peak bookings typically offer 20%-40% savings. Compare price changes for your exact dates before committing.
- Expect a 12.5% tax on hotel rooms in Islamorada (6% state, 6.5% county), adding $15–50 nightly. Review your booking summary for tax inclusion, as some OTAs may not display this upfront.
- Choose hotels in central Islamorada, especially near Mile Marker 82, where reported petty theft rates are under 5%. Select properties with gated access for added security; confirm with the hotel ahead of arrival.
- Select hotels with backup generators for reliable power, especially during hurricane season. Storm-related outages in Islamorada can last 1-3 hours; generator-equipped hotels consistently provide air conditioning and Wi-Fi during interruptions.
- Support sustainability by choosing Florida Green Lodging certified hotels, with 15% of Islamorada’s options having this status. These properties often use low-flow fixtures and conserve water during dry months. Ask for proof of certification if unclear.
- Use credit cards directly at hotels to avoid $15 per withdrawal ATM fees and dynamic currency conversion. Decline non-USD charges to sidestep 3%-7% extra costs.
- About 60% of Islamorada hotels offer step-free access. Reserve accessible rooms in advance and request ADA-compliant features to accommodate beach layouts or older properties.
- Year-round humidity in Islamorada ranges from 70%-90% with a UV index of 7-10. Prioritize hotels offering enclosed patios, sunscreen, or portable fans for comfortable adaptation; verify amenity availability before booking.
- Book hotels 6-9 months ahead for peak tarpon fishing season (April-June), when demand drives a 20%-30% price increase. Check event calendars for exact tournament dates.
- Choose properties with generator backup during the June-November hurricane season for uninterrupted Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Ask properties to confirm backup power details prior to booking.
- Negotiate custom fishing packages with your hotel, which may include guided tours, gear rental, and room discounts—potentially saving 10%-20% on your stay. Request sample package inclusions before arrival.
- For lower rates and fewer crowds, visit December-March for off-season discounts of 15%-25%. Confirm available discounts directly with the property.
- Factor in parking and resort fees when booking: parking averages $15-20 per night, and resort fees run $15-30. Verify all extra fees with the hotel to avoid surprises at checkout.
- Choose hotels supporting sustainable initiatives such as coral reef and sea turtle protection. Request details on eco-friendly practices if not visibly listed.
- Join hotel loyalty programs like Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors to earn points redeemable for free nights or upgrades after 5-10 eligible stays. Register via the chain’s website or app before your visit.
- Check the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce events calendar before booking. Festivals and tournaments can increase rates and limit availability, particularly at waterfront hotels.
- Book at least 6 months ahead for winter high season (December-April), when room rates are typically 30%-50% higher than off-season. Monitor rate changes for your preferred hotels.
- Beachfront hotels in Islamorada average $300-500 per night, which is 25%-35% less than comparable property rates in other Keys destinations. Review location maps to ensure direct beach access.
- Staying 7 or more nights can unlock 10%-20% weekly discount rates at many Islamorada hotels. Confirm eligibility before finalizing your booking.
- Parking at most hotels costs $15-25 per day; select a property with included parking or locate nearby free public lots for savings. Check parking policies prior to arrival.
- For easy access to restaurants, shops, and marinas, prioritize hotels in central Plantation Key. Most venues are within a 1-mile walk.

- Choose hotels with a hurricane evacuation plan and backup generator. These properties typically maintain power 3-5 times longer during outages. Ask hotels to share their plan details before booking.
- Avoid dynamic currency conversion (DCC) at marinas and dive shops. DCC adds a 3%-7% hidden fee; always pay in USD when prompted to reduce extra charges.
- Local ATMs (Keys Cooperative Credit Union or Bank of the Islands) charge $15 per withdrawal, compared to $15 at non-local banks. Check ATM network before withdrawing cash.

- Upper Islamorada (Mile Markers 85-90) is quieter and preferred by remote workers. Lower Islamorada (Mile Markers 75-80) offers nightlife and busier traffic. Select your area based on your noise and activity preferences.
- Older waterfront hotels may lack step-free access. Always confirm step-free options or request accessible rooms in advance, particularly at properties built before 1980.
- At hotel check-out, decline dynamic currency conversion (DCC). Islamorada hotels may charge 3%-5% more for international cards using DCC; opt to pay in USD at the posted rate.
- Fishing charters can be 20%-30% cheaper May-November (low season), with hotels sometimes bundling these savings into stay packages. Ask about bundled discounts before booking.
- Islamorada lodging tax totals 12.5% (6% state plus 6.5% local). Always check if your online travel agent displays the full tax before paying.
- Select hotels with solar panels for reduced environmental impact. Many eco-friendly Islamorada properties use solar energy to supplement power needs. Ask hotels for sustainability details if important to you.

- Fishing tournaments can raise hotel prices by 15%-25% and reduce room availability. Check Islamorada’s event calendar before confirming your stay.
- To experience Islamorada’s waterfront vibe, choose accommodations with direct water access or private docks. Confirm property location and amenities via a verified map before booking.
- If bringing a boat, confirm the hotel offers slips—fees range from $50-150 per night. Not all waterfront hotels can accommodate vessels; contact in advance to secure a spot.
- Bring insect repellent, as mosquitos often appear at waterfront resorts during warm, humid months, especially at dusk and dawn. Ask about onsite control measures or amenities.
- While Islamorada’s tap water is treated and safe, some guests prefer bottled water due to its mineral content. Factor $15-2.50 per bottle into your budget if relevant.
- Limited public transit in Islamorada means you’ll need a car or use ride shares. Budget $15-30 per short trip if not driving; confirm ride availability and surge pricing during peak periods.
- Some high-end resorts offer day passes for pool or beach access to non-guests, typically priced $50-100 per day. Check directly with resort reception for availability and what’s included.

- Chain resorts often add $25-40 nightly resort fees, while independent motels rarely do. Check for mandatory fees in your total price during booking.

- Ocean views improve on upper floors, as ground-level rooms may have obstructed sightlines from landscaping. Request specific floor levels and view guarantees before confirming your reservation.

- High-demand amenities like free kayaks at mid-tier hotels (such as La Siesta) are often fully booked by 9 AM. For guaranteed rental, book at Robbie’s Marina for $20/hr.
- West-facing hotel rooms (such as Marina Del Mar) deliver sunset views and reduced morning glare. East-side rooms receive direct sun by 10 AM. Request preferred orientation before arrival.
- Pre-pay for parking at high-demand resorts, where spots (such as $30/night at Amara Cay) fill by early afternoon. Free lots at Bud n’ Mary’s Marina require a 5-minute walk.
- Hotel restaurants generally charge $25+ per entrée, while local restaurants like Hobo’s Cafe or Midway Cafe offer meals for $15-18. Pierre’s is an upmarket option if planning a special occasion.
