I chose this hotel based on its longer distance from the nearby busy, noisy freeway and the low cost of a room there. It was amazingly quiet on its backside away from the freeway, which is great. Bathrooms were modern despite old age of the building.

Top Tips
- Book Mansfield hotels 28-42 days before arrival to save 12-18% on rates. Last-minute bookings within 7 days can raise prices by 15-20%. For event periods, check for Ohio State Reformatory or Renaissance Theatre schedules, as rates may spike.
- Factor in an additional 12.5% for taxes and fees on quoted hotel prices, which includes a 7.5% state tax and 5% Richland County occupancy tax, plus potential nightly facility fees of $15 (approx. 270 LOCAL). Confirm whether taxes and fees are included at the final booking confirmation step, and ask for the full total before booking.
- Prioritize hotels in downtown Mansfield or the Ontario corridor for improved walkability, providing 30% higher access to restaurants and events within 0.8 km (0.5 mi) of the Renaissance Theatre or Ohio State Reformatory. Ask if hotels offer guest discounts at nearby restaurants, especially during seasonal events.
- Confirm Wi-Fi speeds of at least 75 Mbps at check-in for reliable remote work; extended-stay hotels typically provide median speeds of 78 Mbps, while older motels average 32-45 Mbps and may see congestion in the evening. Many hotels also offer coworking-style lounges for guests on business.
- Request a room away from elevator banks in historic downtown buildings to reduce noise, as sound readings show a 12-15 dB increase near elevators in repurposed 1920s structures. For added quiet, request a higher-floor room or ask if earplugs are available when booking a historic property.
- Use ATMs inside Mansfield National Bank or Ohio Credit Union to avoid $15 (approx. 270 LOCAL) surcharges common at independent ATMs in gas stations or bars. Many chain hotels also allow cash withdrawals at the front desk POS if you are a guest or charge to your room.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when using foreign cards; select payment in local currency (USD) at the point of sale to avoid markups averaging 4.8-6.3%. Always confirm the payment currency before authorizing any charge.
- Explicitly request step-free access if needed, as only 38% of Mansfield hotels list ADA compliance online and 60% of 'accessible' rooms may still require stairs to reach areas like the lobby or breakfast. If step-free access is essential, call the hotel directly to confirm the path from parking, common spaces, and guest rooms.
- Carry a reusable water bottle, as Mansfield tap water meets federal standards but temporary boil advisories can occur for 2-4 days during spring thaw. Many local hotels provide filtered water stations in the lobby or fitness area for travelers.
- Avoid hotel parking fees by staying within 1.6 km (1 mi) of Malabar Farm State Park or downtown events, where street and municipal lots are free after 6 PM, compared to 70% of hotels charging $15 (approx. 270 LOCAL) nightly. Accessible parking is available in many downtown municipal lots but may have limited spaces during peak events—reserve in advance when possible.
- Tip housekeeping $15 (approx. 270 LOCAL) daily, placed visibly on the pillow, as local hotels do not include automatic service charges and 85% of staff report tips below standard unless left by guests. Some hotels now accept digital gratuities via app or front desk if you prefer.
- Choose ENERGY STAR or EPA-certified hotels for more reliable HVAC during summer heat events (average 28-32°C); such properties report 22% fewer HVAC failures compared to non-certified motels, which face 1.8 times more outage reports. The certification is often listed at the front desk or on the hotel's website—request a maintenance check on arrival, especially after storms, to ensure your system is working.
