Pros +
- The morning breakfast staff were helpful and friendly.
- Excellent friendly staff, lovely location and clean and comfortable room. Food was excellent, especially the breakfast.
- Huge dual aspect room overlooking golf course, genuinely dog-friendly including bar (not restaurant), great breakfast in immaculate restaurant, stately country house impression on arrival
Cons -
- Some of the evening restaurant staff were quite dismissive and borderline rude. The steak was not particularly good, despite being premium price.
- Our room had a few issues, but nothing major. Hole in the ceiling above the bath, peeling laminate behind toilet, chipped tiles on wall with shower on. One of the light bulbs around bathroom mirror was out.
- 4 poster room described on Dunston Hall website as 'recently refurbished' yet still very dated in terms of flooring/furniture/bathroom fittings

Excellent staff - friendly, helpful and happy to go the extra mile to help. They were superb when the booking system caused problems with pre-booked afternoon tea and dinner bookings.
Neither of the things we booked in advance were sent through to the venue properly. Afternoon tea booking was wrong by an hour and the online discount was not applied. Also, our reservation for dinner was completely missing. The staff were excellent and worked with us to smooth things out but they shouldn't have had to.
Value for moneyGreat staff
Waiting 1.5 hours for food
Amazing hotel and staff that loves dogs
It’s not the newest place but it’s clean and friendly
The facilities are brilliant. The swimming pool and health spa. The rooms are very big and very clean. The staff was super helpful and friendly Room service was excellent Food was reasonably priced
It's a bit of a maze so I got lost a few times finding my room and the map was difficult to understand
Good location, friendly staff and good facilities
Breakfast was very busy over the weekend and there was a wait to restock on the breakfast buffet which caused queues.
Great spread, lovely staff, tasty food, wide selection of juices, breads, pastries
On first day no honey visible but it was there the next day
Very attentive staff and everything you could bend for a wonderful stay.
The food service in the bar restaurant was very slow. The second night I ordered pizza. They warned us it would be 45mins. It then arrived very undercooked with a raw base.
Lovely building, comfortable bed.
Room wasn't cleaned very well- found a pair of earrings in there.Dinner at the bar was poor- fries were burnt and salad was really salty.
It had everything we needed for a leisurely hotel stay - it is a very impressive looking place with a lovely spa and pool area, the staff were all lovely and the restaurant was great.
Nothing!
Lovely one night stay with my children at this hotel; family room was really spacious and clean - 2 big double/king size beds, excellent bathroom. Every member of staff from the reception to housekeeping to the restaurant were so friendly and polite; the hotel grounds are stunningly beautiful. Kids and I loved the pool and the driving range. Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice and all good quality.
There was a shortage of staff at dinner so our meal took an hour to arrive (although staff were very apologetic). And the stone baked pizza was very poor quality; not at all worth the £18 price mark - tasted like a supermarket freezer pizza. Also the hot tub in the pool area was luke warm - hardly 30 degrees.
Value for money, the location was perfect for us, breakfast was lovely and a very friendly staff overall.
The pool was too cold, there was food on the floor going up the stairs and used wine glasses left in the morning near reception. Plus my son found wire cutting and wall remains from a plug that was worked on.
Building is stunning. Very warm welcome to the property. Special mention to Melissa on reception she was one of the most pleasant front desk experiences I've ever had - genuine, empathetic and interacted naturally with our young daughter. Facilities were great. It felt fancy but with a genuine family-friendly vibe. Rare combo. Room was lovely. Two big beds in the family room rather than a pull out bed for the child. Made her experience all the more special. They even went to the trouble of leaving a birthday gift on the bed with a note for our daughter's birthday. She loved it.Breakfast was average. Cooked food was a little underwhelming. But there were plenty of options including a gluten-free station.
Customer service via email told me we couldn't use the swimming pool whilst there due to time restrictions for children. However upon arrival we were told that was wrong. Luckily we packed costumes just in case. Had we not I would not have been happy.Downside of the room was cleanliness. Couple of signs that the cleaning hadn't been done to a high standard, and a broken piece of plastic was wedged in the seat cushions which I cut my hand on. Sleep was broken due to noise levels in the corridor. Not the fault of the hotel.Breakfast was average. Cooked food was a little underwhelming. But there were plenty of options including a gluten-free station.
Beautiful scenery. Lounge area was very nice to eat in. The spa was lovely however pool was too cold to enjoy with the little one.
Pool was cold for kids but for adults only it is great spa area.
Very good breakfast selection
I was put in a separate linked building, the water pipes were noisy and also no tea maker in the room. Took me a while to figure out how the shower worked! My room was opposite the linked double-doors so it was noisy at times.
Very clean and comfortable
Room was cold and some parts were quite dated
Fresh fruit at breakfast is always good
Some of the hot breakfast items had depleted and there didn't seem to be anyone aware
Polite and clean
Heating didn’t work in our room
