Pros +
- Friendly staffExcellent breakfast
- Quiet location, friendly staff, bar and food comfortable room.
- Characterful, clean, lovely staff, good food.
Cons -
- Bathroom dated but clean and plenty of room so didn’t affect my stay.
- Paper thin walls (sweary neighbours) and a bit of a trek from town. Also current development at indoor estate nearby (daytime only). Futon in family room a bit basic.
- No drinking water in the bottle in my room & had to wait a while for someone to come to reception to check me in.

Location & bed was comfy

Excellent food ,staff were well trained, clean room
Our room was above the bar. There was an after hours session which kept us awake until 2.30 am. Very noisy. If it wasn't for that we would have given a ten score.
Renovated, immaculately clean, Devine food (evening menu and breakfast), staff were an absolute delight all round and you won’t find better for the price (we travelled from the Isle of Skye to Cornwall).
No lift (probably due to the age of the building) but only one flight of stairs
Was clean and staff were nice
We were room 26 power kept cutting off, no hot water bed very uncomfortable and pillows like bricks
Breakfast goodStaff friendly and helpful
Pillows on bed very hardMy stay in Chard was to attend a funeral. Unfortunately, the taxi company which I booked from the hotel, failed to turn up the following day and if it hadn't been for another guest who was also attending the funeral I would not have made it on time.
Very comfortable and welcoming. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of it.
The room was by the fire door that was the entrance and exit to the corridor. The door closed quietly but other residents were not especially the gentlemen that decided to have a conversation outside my room at 6 am.
Everything!!The staff were really friendly and made us feel welcomeThe food was amazing. We had an evening meal which was superb.Breakfast was included in the price of our stay which included croissant, juices, fruit, toast teas and coffee plus a choose of hot cooked breakfast, they even offered the dog breafast
Very helpful and friendly staff, rooms basic but comfortable and clean
Quiet location. Good food. Real log fire in the lounge/restaurant area. Friendly and enthusiastic staff.
Cold room with no heating when I arrived late afternoon. It’s a timed central heating system with thermostatically controlled temperature. OK in the morning.
Friendly and attentive staff. Clean and tidy room. A nice touch downstairs was an area with a bookcase and a few comfortable armchairs by a fire.
Room was a little 'tired' and the hotel was a little out of the way meaning there was a little walk to/from the town but nothing else.
good breakfast, the only downside was the fact that the friday night band was just below our bedroom window and went on until midnight.
the friday night band and extremely crowded bar area
Nice, cosy bar area, with selection of real ales and excellent food. Charming staff and very comfortable bed. Good value for money.
Just a little dated here and there, but certainly would not put me off staying there again.
Staff helpful and very friendly
Room was a bit well worn in places but very clean.
Staff and food brilliant friendly & helpful
En suite could do with a refresh
Friendly staff, good parking and convenient service location
All the pillows were very bulk too high to sleep on comfortably, please swap two for softer option so guests have a choice.Hotel advertises EV charging, but it didn’t work and staffs reaction was ‘we don’t own the chargers’ not a great help. CAUTION charges have a security camera recording use, and sign warning of £100 penalty is cars are not ‘Actively’ charging, how does that work if your car finishes charging at 4am? Surely they don’t expect you to go out and move the car.Noise from guests standing/smoking outside bar.
Staff were polite and helpful, location great.
Just satnav stopped me down the lane. Luckily I had the feeling to keep going and found the sign a bit further along.
Really nice and relaxing stay , food and bar area was loverly
Rooms a bit dated , shower really needs updating
