Pros +
- My husband has to be on gluten-free diet and the chef did extra work to cook him delicious gluten-free dinner and breakfast. We really appreciated it. All the staff were very friendly and nice! We felt as if we were families. The owner was nice, too. I actually chose this hotel because my favorite writer, Fumiko Hayashi, stayed here back in 1940s and wrote the famous novel. They have the display of the writer's photos and stuff in the lobby. They keep goats in the front yard which is amusing.

- The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and good value.
Cons -
- The dryers in the laundry room are not easy to use. They need better instructions of how to use in the laundry room. They have a high-end coffee maker in the room next to the cafeteria, but they offer only vanilla flavored coffee. I am not a fan of vanilla coffee. Can they add regular coffee?
- Appliances in the room were slight old.
- The walls were dirty and looked old or marked up. The door didn't close well. The bath in our room was mildewed and not fresh looking. It needed to be updated. The hotel seemed like an old hotel that had not been updated.

The view, the staff, the comfort of the futons.

The food is delicious, the location is great, near the river. The staff is friendly and nice.
The building a bit old, be patient for the hot water to come out during the shower
Location was close to bus stop and restaurants., Staff were very helpful for us non-japanese speakers. Room was spacious. Clean towels. Breakfast was good too.
Not the cleanest. Found some bugs crawling around. Wifi very slow. Bathroom faucet was leaky. Toilet did not have a bidet.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive; they even provided a car free of charge for two days of adventure. The location is absolutely stunning, with rooms looking up the river against a backdrop of green mountains.
Gotta love Yakushima and I would probably stay here again if I returned. I really enjoyed having a beer looking out my window, down the river to the mysterious looking mountains. It was really cool! I had a comfortable stay after an adventuous day. It was handy to have a good start to the day with the provided breakfast and there are some great dinner options a short walk across the bridge or the place next door on the river. I really enjoyed my stay in Yakushima and would happily stay here again if I returned.
The onsen is a bonus really and its good that they swap over the mens and ladies so you can try both. Its just a shame that they didn't incorporate what could have been an epic view out to the ocean or up the river to the mountains or across to the town. Its a small onsen and having a great view would have made the onsen great.
The Hotel is a very good for all people who come to the island to go hiking. As this hotel is specialised for these visitors. The hotel offers hiking equipment which you can rent and also prepares breakfast and lunch bento boxes, which you can take in the morning before you go hiking. Additionally, there is also a common room where you can sit and chill, drink a coffe, enjoy the view over the river and on the mountain and there is also an japanese bath where you can bath traditionally. Moreover, the hotel an excellent location for people who go hiking, as the bus station makina is near by, where you can take the local bus which drives you to the mountain trail bus.The city center nabo is also near, where you find some restaurants. Furthermore, after forgetting a kindle in the hotel room, the hotel was so kind to send it to Tokyo.
The Hotel is a little bit older it must be clear that it is very traditional, as the rooms have japanese futon beds. It was an interesting experience, but after a 10 h hiking trip, a bed with a normal mattress would be more comfortable. This is not a real critic, moreover an information to people who are not familiar with futon beds. Maybe there are also rooms with beds and mattresses, we got this one.
Excellent location & good breakfast.very kind & helpful staffs
Old faciltities need renovations
Location is good. Store within walking distance. Sunrise can be seen from the room window.
We had a Japanese style room facing the river. The hotel is conveniently located next to a bridge which leads into the centre of Anbo. The accommodation has laundry and drying facilities suitable for a hiker and a public bathing room. Would stay here again!
I loved the beautiful view. The room was comfortable and perfect for a solo traveler. I liked that it had a Japanese traditional feel even if it was not a traditional building. it was also nice to have the sentō and the laundry machines to use. I made friends with one of women who worked there and she was so nice and welcoming to me. The owner of the hotel was friendly and brought me around to see some nature highlights. The hotel felt like an extended family. I was here for a week and was very content and I would stay here again.
People called my room a lot when I was trying to sleep or relax, also there’s a weird music that plays at 6 am (across the whole village - not just the hotel) to wake people up to go to work. I got used to it but it was quite annoying to be woken up at 6am everyday. Also the owner of the hotel was a little bit TOO friendly and tried to hold my hand. Maybe it’s a culture difference but it was a bit shocking for me as in my country this is totally inappropriate.
It's a traditional hotel with a history! The view from the public area on 6F is marvelous!!! I had a very comfortable, large room, well equipped and great view. English spoken.
location is convenient, lot of restaurants options nearby room is ok
facilites are old but clean welcome was a bit rude
Japanese-type breakfast was great. Lunch bento for hiking also great. Hiking gear available for rent. For dinner, restaurant with good atmosphere was on the water next to the hotel.Hotel is on the road leading to popular hiking trails.
There were a few bugs in the room, but it was Summer and on Yakushima it's somewhat unavoidable. Shower is pretty old but everything works fine.
Amazing hotel in traditional japanese style. The view is nice and the accommodation confty. Plus, it's close to the bus stop.
Not worth the money
Granted that we travelled during the Olympic weekend, prices were higher than expected, but the least one could expect was a nice and comfortable room. The futon was not comfortable and the room felt dirty and old. There was a balcony in our room but we didn’t even go outside as the floor was so dirty.
It has a great location overlooking a beautiful river which flows drom the mountains to the sea. The staff were so friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. All the equipment and amenities needed to explore the island are available there.Definitely recommend this hotel for your stay. Not far from all the major places you'll need to visit.
Very kindly staff,The famous hotel where stayed VIP , The room is clean but old one
