Location & history
No lift/elevator. Towels and linens smell damp and nasty. No sign/label outside restaurant for opening & closing times. Reception is often empty. Staff take a long time to attend to you after you sit down in the restaurant. Shampoo and shower gel containers not labeled. Really bad WiFi—unstable connection & low security level. You only get to order breakfast once when you check in, so you have to eat the same breakfast every morning if you stay for more than one day.
Everyone was friendly. Even though our room was above the dining room and looked out to the balcony it wasn't too loud. We were worried that the noise would keep us awake, but the only night we heard people was Friday night, and even that was only until about 11pm. We only ate dinner at the Anchor Inn one night, but the food was good. We also liked our desserts. Breakfast was ok, although we would have liked if it started a bit earlier than 8am. Our room was small, but overall was comfortable. Shower pressure was good (which is important to me). Good location. Parking is available in the back. We also liked that they had live music on a couple of the nights we were there.
The bed was a double and was a bit squeaky. It was listed as a double, but sometimes that really is a queen or larger. In this case, it really was a double. Wished that the breakfast time started a bit earlier.
Excellent food. Good value for money. Friendly staff. Great community spirit, especially during the Sea Shanty night.
Access onto the road. Difficult to see when pulling out. A mirror might be helpful.
Lovely rooms above a pretty and lively pub. All the staff were super nice. The room we stayed in had a great view of the rolling green hills, and overlooked a nice patio out the back of the pub. Breakfasts are included and are ample. You can ask for oat milk. Location in Hartland can't be beaten as it is central to everything! (not difficult in Hartland, it's tiny). I really liked that I could work on my laptop downstairs at one of the tables in the restaurant. The room was good - shower was strong and hot enough, with heated towel rails in the bathroom (love those). Shampoo, body wash, and enough toilet paper all provided. Room was clean. Bed comfortable. Heating worked at odd times and we were not sure if it was on a timer or a thermostat.. (didnt really behave like either)... but we had no issues with coldness in the room nonetheless. Loved that we could pop downstairs of an evening and have dinner or just a drink. Really great stay thank you!!
Great food ? , friendly and helpful staff , good accommodation, great atmosphere over a busy Easter weekend.
What an absolute jewel of a pub. The staff were brilliant from the moment we walked in the door. Heated towel room in our room helped us dry our soaking clothes. Lovely warm feeling to the pub with fantastic food and beer and a night of sea shanty singing. Brilliant.
Really friendly staff on arrival. Our room was clean, very pleasant, comfortable and overlooked the sun terrace. We'd been advised, prior to our arrival, that there would be live music on the night of our stay which didn't bother us at all but were grateful that the owners had kindly let us know. The bed was really comfortable with fresh, crisp bedding. We kept our room window open as it was a warm evening and discovered that the room door rattled whenever there was a slight breeze. We ended up having to lodge a suitcase up against the door to hold it still. Also, after searching the room for the hairdryer that was listed as included in the room facilities and finally giving up on our search, we exited our room to head for the bar and discovered a communal hairdryer in the hallway.
A lovely friendly pub, nicely decorated rooms, clean and comfortable and a very good breakfast.
Apart from the last morning which was poor breakfast was good

Cozy pub vibes, excellent food and super clean rooms.
The staff were absolutely superb, welcoming, informative and friendly.
Liked it all.
Food was fantastic, Ann and all the staff were lovely and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. It was spotless, the beds were comfortable, shower was brilliant and we are so happy we found this place. We will definitely be returning. 3 very happy old bikers ?
Nothing to dislike.Just wish our stay was longer, never felt so at home in a hotel.
The folk band in the bar, the real fires, the staff.
Perfect location for Hartland Quay, Bideford, Woolsery.
Nothing to complain over - the staff worked very hard to make everything wonderful. They communicate very well so if you need anything you just need to ask.
The Anchor never disappoints, lovely friendly staff, clean comfy room and delicious food, all in the most beautiful setting. What more could you want!
Welcoming comfortable place with modern facilities and great food
This beautiful old pub is really atmospheric & lovely. Our room was large, quiet & comfortable . All the staff were friendly & efficient. Its location in the pretty village of Hartland is perfect for exploring the stunning coastline nearby.
Nothing not to like: could only just be a bit picky & ask for some sachets of decent coffee in our room & fresh milk ( maybe small fridge in common area?) rather than the tiny single use plastic uht containers.
