Pros +
- The grounds were lovely.Nice pool.
- Average - Brand Champneys was good is now on the way down
- Hotel is beautiful, gorgeous surroundings and very peaceful. Room was immaculate but could do with a fridge and an upgrade on the mattress. It felt quite old and the springs were coming through slightly. The reception staff were lovely and very pleasant.
Cons -
- The staff were unhelpful and unwelcoming. The trainee that checked us in needed to repeatly go and ask for help.Check in took 25 mins, no guidance to help us find our room or welcome drinks.
- Dinner times inflexible / Spa facilities very poor and dated - tiny sauna / hotel looked in need of refurbishment windows in my room poor repair, shower poor, vanity units embedded stains
- The restaurant staff were a bit all over the show and didn’t really know what they were doing. The food however was unreal so no complaints from that side but the staff think we’re all knew to the job and got a couple of things wrong. Breakfast to the room was 20 minutes late and with us having to be in a meeting for 9am it made things a little rushed.

The building& grounds, the restaurant and pool area . The cleaner was also lovely and the staff generally professional.
Cafe was a bit shambolic, cafe staff weren’t very coordinated resulting in longer wait times. Tables not cleared regularly resulting in clutter.
room and facilities were good. staff were polite and attentive.
The hotel is showing signs of wear and tear and looking tatty in places - many walls and doors in need of paint. outside I noted the guttering to the rear of the wing is full of weeds , likely to fail and this will cause water ingress issues without repair.Lighting in my room was inadequate, there were no overhead lights above the bed.
Building is very grand, room sizes were great, although furniture a little worn, required a little TLC. Breakfast had a good selection of food.
The grounds, spa facilities, plenty of areas to sit and relax both inside and outside. Beautiful setting.
Our room was a long way from reception and not easy to access which is difficult when checking in/out. Seemed to be working to a budget so breakfast was limited and lunch self-service which is disappointing for this grade of hotel. Also no bars serving alcohol around 6pm, one had run out and the other wasn’t open. Just feel there could have been a main bar in older part of hotel, which would add to atmosphere.
The pool was nice, gymn was adequate.
The room was dated and really warm, it wasn’t even hot, no air conditioning. There were loads of flies in the room. I even had a fly spray provide (this was FOC BTW!)The breakfast wasn’t great. The sausages awful, the coffee cold, the porridge warm at best and not a great deal of fruit.
The grounds
It’s really sad to see that it has now been maintained well. The swimming pool is gorgeous but the glass ceilings have heavy brown stains and all the furniture has the paint flaking off.
Swimming pool and grounds
Staff promised to get a receipt and am still chasing for part of it now.
The venue itself is stunning. Good spa facilities!
My room was quite dated and lots of stains in the bathroom
Location, Restaurant was ok and the swimming pool area was nice.
Dirty Towel in the bath when I arrived and myI ordered a twin room for my son and my daughters boyfriend to share and it was a double. However the dirty Towel left in the bathroom. Howver I did complain and was gifted some products. The rooms were dated!
Beautiful building and setting
Beds were hard and pillows cheap
wifi was good strength
no signage from car park to receptionOne of the towels in the bathroom was dirtyThe drying rail in the bathroom was left outthe TV didn't workthe tap water was warm (yes, i did try both ways on the mixer tap!)the mattress was lumpythe quality of food at breakfast was poor - felt like cheap sausages and mushrooms, tinned fruitlong delay on checkout because of spa customers problems so couldn't talk to anyonegenerally felt that hotel guests were second rate to spa customers
Our one night stay was really relaxing. The pool is impressive and there were lots of beds and chairs to relax in. The outdoor areas are stunning.
Nice breakfast. Lovely lady welcoming everyone at breakfast. Nice location. Beds very comfortable.
On arrival there wasn’t anyone at reception. After waiting for about 10 minutes I went to the gym reception to see if I could find someone to check me in. He then checked me in but failed to book me in for breakfast. I went swimming but there were not any towels available so I had to walk back to my room rather wet in the dressing gown. The TV wasn’t tuned. I managed to do this myself. After I left £7 was taken from my card ‘for a tip’. No one asked and I think it was a bit presumptuous particularly given the poor service i received (lady welcoming for breakfast being the exception).
Lovely location and grounds.Welcoming staff.Super pool and spa treatment facilities which my wife enjoyed.Good breakfast and again lovely staff.Crown pub with great restaurant down the road better than hotel restaurant.
The restaurant area is not great as was some of the food which was underwhelming. No beers served on so called health grounds given wine and cocktails served. The bedrooms are small as are bathrooms. Overpriced for what you get.Treatments are way too overpriced even though my wife enjoyed. I think we pay to stay at a top end place that in reality isn’t all as it seems. Nice place but not that spectacular.
The pool and restaurant
The ladies steam room was out of order and the sauna was small.
Everything about it was fantastic. The spa, gym and pool excellent.
Property itself is very nice and good spa facilities (apart from the pool being out of action and bedroom not very clean)
Pool was closed due to high chlorine levels (I had actually started swimming and had to be told to get out of the pool) Room was clean but the bathroom was not. Toilet paper still in the toilet (not flushed) and bathroom bin not emptied - still full of previous guests’ rubbish.
