- Loved the hotel room it was very spacious and clean, really good location and staff was amazing. Spa staff was also very helpful and friendly.
- The facilities and spa was excellent and the room was spacious. Staff were very friendly and polite
- Good in parts ..... lovely location .... high quality hotel , tastefully designed and decorated throughout , excellent breakfast !! :) BUT it is advertised as a spa hotel , then demanded £35 per person per day extra to access a small spa with plunge pool !! this has never happened to us ever before on our extensive travels :( ,,, ALSO there was an asian wedding happening that day [ one of two ! ] meaning parts of the hotel were chaotic !! not what we were expecting !!
Cons -
- Hotel restaurant was very pricey for what it was, me and my partner both had a 2 course meal and 3 drinks each and the total was £170 with a £16 service charge that they made us feel quite awkward about taking off.
- Having to pay for my drink when I had a £40 allowance

The room was luxurious and the setting is beautiful
The bar shuts at 9pm and the restaurant couldn’t accommodate me as a solo person
The room was very spacious, with a lovely bath and seperate shower. . The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was included which was nice and made to order. Staff were attentive, I had a meal for dinner at the restaurant which was exceptional.
Sadly the room upstairs were very noisy, playing loud music until the early hours. This is no fault of the staff, in fact when the noise was reported they dealt with it promptly.
The set up for the beds were romantic for when we arrived. The cleanliness was great. The breakfast was also delicious.
The hot chocolate we ordered was too foamy and not hot enough.
Room was spacious, location was excellent and the gardens were great. Checking in and out was seamless with no issues.
Our room in the Manor House would get very warm at night. Only one small window to let air in. The double doors out onto the private garden would not open and was informed it was for “health and safety reasons” despite it being on the ground floor and we had the key for the doors already in the lock. The fan we had in the room would rattle when turned on but staff were quick to give us a second fan that worked.Breakfast was not great. Waited 30mins for some scrambled eggs, despite it being fairly quiet in the restaurant, before giving up and having some cereal instead. Waiting staff weren’t interested in helping. There was also no dedicated person to help in moving luggage from/to the car when checking in and out. The reception staff were helpful in going out of their way to give us a hand themselves and a trolley from the kitchen but surely there should be a doorman that helps guests with their luggage?Overall, not a great stay, especially for our wedding weekend. The spa may be better, but can’t comment as we didn’t use the facilities.
Absolutely would recommend this place 100%. So incredibly clean. Breakfast included in the price. I would genuinely say it's as good as 5* hotels that we've been to. Massive bedroom (room 16).. with walk in shower and bath. Comfy beds. Blackout curtains. Quiet. Will be back.
WiFi wasn't brilliant. But can live with that
Travelling 7 hrs in traffic to get there - we were told the restaurant and bar were closed. We transferred to their sister hotel which was a very poor substitute. More like a motorway services- except no restaurant only snack type meals , congealed breakfast , no orange juice & no serviettes. This review may not be fair on the Stanley spa hotel but I am angry that they didn’t warn me of the standard of their sister hotel
Room was amazing, staff in spa were excellent
Service staff were non existent. Happier throwing ice at each other, rather than look after guests. In several areas there are damaged doors, repairs half finished. Ie. Our room, the toilet had been fixed, but silicone around the top was left cut and not fitted correctly. Small things mean a lot when being a top hotel
We had heard good things about the hotel. Upon arrival we were checked in smoothly & quickly. After getting to are room we noticed the bathroom sink wasn’t 100% clean and that we only had 2 coffee pods between 2 of us. One of which was decaf. We spent an hour in the restaurant having some food. The tables weren’t the cleanest, the chairs had dried food on them and there were crumbs under almost every table - tables that had been wiped down and set for the next people. We waited nearly 15 minutes for 2 drinks and the restaurant was very quiet. We were however served by a lovely young man. Next morning and we went down for breakfast. The cups didn’t fit the coffee machine so milk spurted out the side whilst being made by the machine. The fruit selection wasn’t replenished at all - neither was the pastry section. We had to ask 15 minutes after being seated to order breakfast. There were plenty of staff on so why it took so long I don’t know.
Reasonable breakfast choice but very slow service. The different stations around the room made making choices more difficultPlastic pots for yougurt that had been decanted by the hotel was unsophisticated
areas of hotel scruffy: broken door handle clearly has been like that a while. plasic bottles in flower bedsInexperienced staff in hotel and bar with no supevision, is unfair on them .. the boy behind the bar did not know what was gin!!
A beautiful place and surroundings. Staff very helpful.Enjoyed our stop here before travelling up to Scotland.
Not enough staff, staff who were there were poor and a manager was extremely rude! Food and drink service terrible, long wait and poor quality food, paid booking for the spa wasn’t added by incompetent staff member, shower dirty, checked out after evening meal as we expected shocking breakfast service.
Very attentive staff very clean room with the best view we have seen for a very long while, our room was in the old manor house. Lounge bar very restful and clean. Gardens well maintained and dinning was great. We will be returning.
Nothing to dislike.
The room was lovely, the restaurant needs doing up to match the ambience of the rooms and the staff need to be friendly .
The staff in the restaurant could be so with cheering up , also the fact that you can't use the spa was a big let down for us .
Superb hotel, small and friendly. The room we had (number 12) was large, comfortable, with an excellent bathroom.
Nothing that comes to mind.
It was a beautiful room.
The food was awful, overcooked and expensive aswell. It also took over an hour for the food too arrive even though there was only one other table dining.
Room was large and clean, bed lovely and comfy, bathroom had separate shower and bath. Great tea and coffee making facilities and plenty of space to hang clothes. The cooked breakfast was delicious. Loads of parking.
Not much choice for the continental breakfast but that could be because we were last down. We had cooked breakfast anyway so wasn't an issue for us.
The setting was stunning, the lady on reception at the Spa was very nice, bed was big & very comfy, great pillows. Breakfast was ok. Spa was just ok but enjoyable.
so much! Bar staff were very incompetent as were the choice of drinks, no Guinness, no Cider, no Chardonnay. Spa was very disappointing. Shower room had no fresh towels and was quite dirty. Big stain on the carpet in the bedroom, dirty bathroom and not cleaned under the bed. Final straw was picking up a filthy cup in the breakfast room to make my morning drink.
