Pros +
- Room I was good & very clean.
- Beautiful building, great location, large room with comfortable bed
- Hotel overall is very good. Also the food is very good.
Cons -
- I struggled with getting natural ventilation as the windows are not easy to open. Would be helpful if this was easier, to let in fresh air/ claustrophobics like myself. I panicked a bit when I couldn’t figure this out quickly.
- Breakfast could have been better. Good variety but eggs not great and small portions
- The room was disappointing, it was on the ground floor and possibly suitable for wheelchair users as it was very large with a very large bathroom. It had a king size bed and one single in an alcove - not the usual Twin Room layout. The heating was noisey and therefore turned off completely in order to sleep. tThe windows were directly on to the pavement and busy road, so could hear traffic and bathroom needed a blind as well as a curtain.

Staff were helpful and very friendly, food was amazing, room and added extras were lovely and the location was perfect.
Lack of wardrobe space and would have been nice to have draws yo put clothes away.
Clean, well arranged and operated.Great location for visiting the Cathedral.Lift to all rooms.
Parking is limited.
Very large comfortable bedroom with lounge area and copper bath. Spacious shower and bathroom. Smart bar area and exceptional food in the restaurant. Staff all very helpful.
Nothing to dislike.
Excellent hotel with incredibly friendly staff, excellent breakfast.
Very well presented, clean and located within a short walk to the cathedral.
The building, location and the rooms are lovely. Staff helpful
The menu was very standard. I expect more awareness of current food trends, more choice, fresh fruit options at breakfast etc. The interior design was pleasant but lacked flair. If you pay this much you want exceptional not standard.
Service was great. Got a room upgrade free of charge. Food was fantastic. Room was comfortable and a lovely bed with a fantastic bath in the room.
First world problems! The room was so big that it was difficult for the heating in the room to actually warm it up to a decemt temperature. Also, the only other comment was some of the staff were a little unfriendly, however still professional.
The staff were great. In particular, the bar staff were really on their game and knowledgeable. The location was also brilliant, right in the middle of town. Easy to access everything. The room was quiet and good for someone with children.
The hot water for the shower was lukewarm, at best. The duvet was coming out the covers and was far too large for the bed. The room seemed a little basic for a suite, we were expecting a little more flourish.
The room was very spacious and comfortable with a lovely view towards the cathedral. The bathroom was very large and well equipped with a large walk in shower and separate bath. Very nice. The restaurant was excellent and service very good. A nice, spacious and comfortable modern bar area was also enjoyable. The hotel location was very convenient, just on the edge of the main shops so everything was in easy reach. Ideally situated in the historic part for visit to the cathedral and Oliver Cromwell's house.
The room overlooked a main road so there was some traffic noise but late at night this wasn't a problem. The wonderful view across the green towards the cathedral more than compensated for slight traffic noise.
Liked the size of the bedroom;liked the comfort ,the size of the bed .The staff were lovely and helpful. We had a really lovely stay
The room (15) was a very good size.
The lighting could have been better in the tea/coffee making area. Also, there was no light in the wardrobe so a bit difficult to see, especially if you wanted to use the safe which was located therein.
The room was good, decor not to our taste but clean and functional. The bathroom was very spacious with a great shower and an unusual bath. They accommodated our bed requirements. It was warm in the room - which was good on a cold spell in January. They were able to serve breakfast in our room.
The parking is a bit of a pain, a good 5 min walk to the parking area, when we had a fair amount to unload because we'd brought stuff for our son - it wasn't great. Reception staff did all we asked and were polite but quite unfriendly. The reason we won't be returning is the cost of the food. £19 each for a small continental breakfast in our room was expensive. The evening meal similarly, whilst the food was ok it wasn't worth it for 2 courses. In other words 2 mornings breakfasts and one dinner came to £174 over the cost of the room. In my head that adds nearly £200 to our bill.
Great location with easy parking opposite. My room was beautiful room with a super comfy bed & amazing shower. The bath was big enough to swim in - literally !Good selection of tea, coffee, water & biscuits which were kept topped up. Very friendly, helpful staff without being intrusive & the food was really good - yumm.Thank you for a great start to 2026
Room was fantastic. Bath in bedroom, large shower in bathroom and very comfortable bed. Dinner was very nice and we had some drinks after in the bar which had a lovely atmosphere.
Limited parking. Had to use car park around the corner,
Located so close in the town to everything .Hotel is stunning , decor , attention to detail , staff are so helpful and friendly and literally will do anything to make your stay special , restaurant is amazing
Beautiful room, well decorated, tasteful and very spacious. The staff were all delightful, respectful and knew their jobs.
There was no mirror near to the sockets and dressing table so no-where to do hair/makeup…could easily be rectified by putting a mirror on the dressing table. Sofa was at right angles to the tv so not ideal to snuggle up to watch but there was enough room for us to move the sofa. Lovely big shower but using the shower from the hose, as opposed to the rainwater shower, caused a leak through the door and hinges. Meal was lovely - a special new year party meal and great to see a nice veggie option however was all quite carb heavy and the veg all sautéed…I like fresh veg. I was also surprised for a hotel offering the quality and price, not to have a mini-fridge in the room.
The location was perfect to visit Ely Cathedral. We were able to park our vehicle in the hotel courtyard that was very helpful as my husband has a mobility problem. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff are kind and helpful. There is nothing we did not like about Poets House.
Ideal location. Room was nice but on main road ground level. Noisy late at night & early morning. Pedestrian crossing right outside room. Light from that came into room
All of above plus no normal English breakfast tea in room. Only Earl Grey.
