The Royal Standard

Clean room and friendly staff

Personally the bed was extremely low (below knee level) Very slow service at breakfast waited 30 mins and only 6 people including ourselves for breakfast

Great staff perfect location.

The location was great. Only able to stay one night due to illness, still a good time. Breakfast very nice.

No lift but the staff helped with baggage.

The location is great - right in the center where all the restaurants and pubs are, close to the Ely cathedral. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and sufficiently spacious, and there were all the expected amenities.

Nothing really. The only nit is the old style keys, meaning we could only have one set.

Excellent staff, friendly and accommodating. Comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms.

No lift

room very comfortable, dinner very good, breakfast fine. In a pleasant contrast to our stay at other East Anglia hotels on this trip, the room was a comfortable temperature when we arrived and remained so.

no lift; room up 2 flights of stairs

Great location and food

Cramped room

Central location, good food, very attentive and friendly staff, who could not do enough for us. Great bed room and bathroom. The weather was so hot the air conditioning was very welcome.

The hotel is in a convenient location in a beautiful small city. The breakfast porridge was delicious.

The hotel listing says that there is free parking available. It turned out that this is in a municipal car park behind the hotel which is not at all easy to find, and you have to park in the short stay area rather than long stay, which you wouldn't guess unless you ask the person at the hotel check-in. It's confusing and stressful when you've just driven a long way and arrive tired. Both dinner and breakfast took a very long time to be served. The outside of the windows to my room were filthy, and because it's a listed building they have to keep the old single-glazed windows, which let in a lot of traffic noise from the street below. The sash cord was broken in my room, so I couldn't have the window open to air the room, which smelt very musty (? old tobacco smoke in the carpet) when I arrived.

Staff, food, location

Controlling room temperature not easy and ceiling extract fan didn't respond to switch on wall

Lovely old building, tastefully modernised but retaining unique features like the old bread oven near the bar. Very friendly and helpful staff, quickly changed our bed arrangement on arrival. The full English breakfast was the best ever, with home made spicy black pudding to die for ?

Shower floor not non slip but staff said a non slip mat was available on request; better to have it in the room methinks ?Toilet seat fixing loose but I find this is common nowadays with plastic lightweight seats as opposed to older traditional types.Heavy lorries passing the building can be noisy and the building shakes, but not really an issue.

Convenience of it. Food right downstairs. Loved the old time feel and quaintness. Water pressure was fabulous! Loved the bath!

There was a bit of street noise and pub noise, but it quieted down around 10:00 or 11:00. Bed was a bit lumpy, and very low to the floor. Difficult to get luggage up the stairs for me.

Good room and facilities, location was great

parking a little awkward

Such a wonderful place. Room was spotless and staff was lovely.
