Pros +
- The quiet efficiency of the management and well staffed. Hotel rooms are full of character and grounds are very well kept.
- Excellent huge room
- The property and staff were really nice
Cons -
- It was a bit of a hassle having to go to the Joiners Arms for dinner in the wet
- We booked one of the pods outside so we could use the hot tub and watch the boxing but the hot tub didn’t work so we spoke to someone and they offered us another free stay and the day before we was meant to arrive we got told the hot tubs wasn’t working as they were all getting cleaned so we never actually got too use what we booked for in the first place we did get a room in the main hall but wasn’t what we wanted so felt like a waste of time
- The breakfast could have been better. The food was very, very good. However we were given a menu and ordered a cooked breakfast each. I said that we would be having some fruit and cereal first, but the hot breakfast came within 5 minutes literally after sitting down and taking our first mouthful of cereal. I said it was very quick to come, but no apology was given and it was just put on the table. I had to ask for it to be taken away and kept warm. Of course it was then below par when we did come to eat it. I would suggest future guests clearly state a specific time gap they want between ordering and any hot food arriving to avoid feeling rushed, and to allow a relaxing meal. Breakfast staff could maybe start asking guests ' Will you be having ceral / fruit before'

A beautiful building. The check in member of staff was very pleasant and very helpful. When the radiator in our room wasn't working on the very cold, wet and windy day we arrived, we were offered another room straight away by the lovely member of staff on the check in desk

The decor
No dogs barking all night long in next room , room being available on arrival so we didn’t have to get changed for wedding in car park , no disabled access , wait for breakfast was just under an hour , then toast arrived once finished , for over £750 a night I would expect 5 star treatment , yet had better experience in a premier inn for £59 night
Liked the hot tub and secluded nature of the location.
Room didn’t look as styled as the photos online. The shower flooded and the blind metal cover fell off and hit my husband on the head. We contacted the front desk who came and sorted the shower out and took the blind cover away. I was surprised that there was no mention of compensation for these events occurring. Given how much we paid for the room I was expecting the highest of standards and the room fell short somewhat. The desk lamp shade also fell down and we couldn’t fix it.
Lovely staff i would like to say a massive thankyou to who made are chrismas eve special, nikki who was serving us at the bar & marina i think who was on reception though the day america women got us sorted in the joiners arms for are eveing meal. As we didnt think we could get in anywhere and having to drive around and find some where would of been a nightmare. The hotel is beautiful we even got an upgrade when we arrived witch was great. Lady on reception lovely easy check in and straight to are room. Room was lovely clean & tidy even through i did notice some cobwebs around the curtain poles. The joiners arms was lovely, the food was great we had a table for 7 and we got the last bookinh for breakfast at 8.30am .
Think there need to be better signing to the car park, This time of year it gets dark early, making are way to the joiner arms not to easy in the dark there could really be some lighting put up to find your way better and you cant see your footing and the signs in the dark would make this better for people walking. Was a little upset that you couldnt eat in the hotel its self, though there may have been some enterinment on with it been xmas eve. When we got to the joiners at 7 we had been informed when ordering food that some dishes were no longer available. witch was a little disappointing but do understand its busy that time of year.
Good breakfast and comfortable bed.The building and gardens were lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our bathroom was the only down side. The metal bath /shower base was incredibly high and was noisy and cold to touch. The tiled floor was very cold on bare feet
Chalets quirky and comfy
The hot tub was boiling ( we paid extra to have this facility)I couldn’t stand up in it… we mentioned it to a maintenance guy the next day who didn’t apologise just suggested the thermostat had gone again, similar apathy at the check out desk.
Staying at Newton Hall was like being a princess for the night. I stayed with my husband we had a brilliantly relaxing night. The quality of the room was superb and we were able to relax and enjoy each other's company. Breakfast was delicious and as a veggie I was well catered for. I loved the free standing bath and wonderful open plan bathroom!
Nothing - I loved it! I guess it was poor for phone signal but that was actually a plus for me!
Wonderful location. Great sized room.
Breakfast was satisfactory but not 5 star. Flies over the continental buffet offering and haphazard service. Customer service was lacking in general. Not shown around the building or told about public areas etc.
The wedding venue, ie the chapel and restaurant/dance floor is beautiful and the food and staff absolutely superb. The big let down is a lack of accommodation. The garden rooms are a disaster area. Holding too many weddings one day after the next making even the bride and groom change rooms during their stay is ridiculous. My advice to anyone because of this would be to travel to the venue on the day because you don't gain anything staying for 1night. You can't stay longer because of the multiple weddings taking place. This is probably also the reason why everyone only gets to eat at the hall for the wedding itself along with the breakfast the following morning. Any extra days you have to go to the joiners arms for all meals, but I should really say breakfast or evening meal because contrary to the sign outside no food was available at any other time to us other than a bowl of chips. It's a difficult one to rate. As a venue and on the day it is exceptional, food service and staff are all first class. Accommodation is the let down. Their aren't enough rooms available at all, nor over a long enough time period to make this a truly memorable occasion. It's too rushed, you feel like cattle being moved from one pen to the next on your way to slaughter which is a real shame because this place could be so much better.
As mentioned above the staging of multiple weddings day after day is too much. Proper accommodation for guests is a must, the " garden rooms " are disgusting. Small and no means of ventilation which probably explains the mould and damp in all of them. You can't conceal the smell just by trying to overpower it using plug in air fresheners. Having to go to the pub for meals which are only available for limited times is not good. The food wasn't bad when we eventually got it but it is a selection of basic pub food. It's not a restaurant and that is what is sadly lacking here.
Location/ friendly staff
Bathroom floor looks to be subsiding due to water ingress so it was very uneven to walk on. Patio door didn’t shut at the top. But did lock. It was very hot and no where but the hall outside to control the thermostat. The fridge didn’t work. But apart from that it was a pleasant stay. Very good breakfast and takeaway from the Joiners Arms.
We stayed in the garden rooms to attend a wedding. Really good location for anyone staying for the wedding. Easy accessible rooms and private accommodation parking. Great for couples. The breakfast is provided in the nearby inn - which is about 5 minutes walk down the road in the nearby village. There is, however, an option to have a breakfast box delivered to the room, which I would recommend to those who have mobility concerns.
The only thing to note is that our room's shower had a strange smell. We only stayed one night so it was not a concern.
Newton Hall presents an appealing setting, with well-maintained grounds. The location is satisfactory, positioned just outside a small village.
During our stay, a wedding was simultaneously taking place. While we understand that wedding events take priority, this created a perception of secondary status and limited access to the main hall.We had reserved accommodations at Newton Hall, specifically in the garden rooms, which provided comfortable lodging.Dining arrangements were located in the local village, a detail not explicitly communicated during the booking process.Furthermore, the route to the dining location involved navigating a dark, narrow country road with limited lighting, which could be considered a safety concern.
Great wedding venue. Fab location and the staff are excellent. So helpful beyond the call of duty.
Initially we were sceptical of the reception and look of exterior of garden room pods. Once inside we were relatively impressed. Everything you needed for an overnight stay or two. Included was outside space with furniture and a wee log burner, complete with log supply.
Housekeeping left our room unlocked one of the days!! Dealt with reasonably well by duty manager. Food (Dinner and Breakfast) was only available at the local pub which was a five minute walk (all outside in the elements) from the rooms. Wasn’t a big issue but future clients aught to be aware. Also, very minor, no matches to light the log burner.
Rooms were absolutely as pictured & lots of little extras you didn’t expect. The grounds are lovely & would have been happy to just sit in the gardens.
There was a bar that wasn’t open to serve guests; it’s only for weddings & the only restaurant that we were told was walking distance to get a drink & food would only serve a sandwich at outdoor seating. It felt like a missed opportunity for the hotel.
Beautiful room with lovely little treats. The fresh brew coffee was a great touchNice breakfast
