Top Tips
- Book Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) hotels 2 to 4 weeks in advance for 15-25% savings, as prices typically rise 20-50% closer to key convention or holiday dates.
- Verify your park-and-fly package before you travel; most include 7-15 days of parking, with extra days charged at $15 to $20 per day. Ask your hotel about shuttle frequency and schedule.
- If your flight departs before 6:00 AM, book the night before to avoid 3:00-4:00 AM shuttle rides. Early check-in may be available for $15 to $50; confirm in advance for availability and cost.
- For a quieter room, request a higher floor and one facing away from DTW runways. Let hotel staff know if you need an accessible room with step-free access to upper floors.
- Use official DTW ground transportation and rideshare pick-up zones. For safety, avoid curbside solicitations and request hotel shuttle identification.
- If you need over 10-20 Mbps for work, ask if the hotel provides wired Ethernet or business center access. Wi-Fi speeds vary, and some areas are better for video meetings or large uploads.
- Expect Michigan’s 6% state sales tax plus Romulus occupancy, parking, or facility fees on your bill. For a standard two-night stay, total fees can add $15 to $30; ask for an itemized bill at checkout.
- Loyalty benefits like late checkout or upgrades may be limited on prepaid or park-and-fly rates. Ask about local loyalty perks, as some Detroit-area hotels offer extra amenities to returning guests.
- Hotels with backup generators deliver more reliable 50-100 Mbps Wi-Fi during winter storms from January through March, when power fluctuates about 5-10% of the time.
- Pay with a card or mobile service to avoid ATM fees of $3 to $5 per transaction at Romulus hotels. Confirm if contactless or mobile pay is accepted before arrival.
