About
Originally built in 1818, this beautifully restored country house is set in 10 acres of grounds, 15 minutes’ drive north of Alnwick. The award-winning property has been awarded 4 AA red stars and offers state-of-the-art spa facilities, luxuriously furnished bedrooms, and an award-winning restaurant. Featuring a swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and steam room, Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa also features 5 treatment rooms. The property offers a range of spa treatments using products from Ishga. With satellite TV and a marble bathroom, each bedroom is decorated with rich fabrics and period-style furniture. Rooms are each named after a Northumbrian castle, and many enjoy views of the estate. Overlooking the Doxford Hall estate, the George Runciman Restaurant has been awarded 2 AA Rosettes for its creative menu, made using fresh local produce. Afternoon Teas are also served in the Georgian Room. The scenic coastline’s lovely sandy beaches are 10 minutes’ drive away through tranquil farmland. Doxford Hall provides free parking, and is only 2 miles from the A1. Edinburgh is 80.4 miles away.

Pros +
- Very comfortable hotel in quiet but accessible location in beautiful surroundings with excellent facilities
- Staff were excellent - professional but friendly. Great location. Loads of lounge areas. Food was good. The hotel is such a lovely building with beautiful gardens. Wifi speed was amazing.
- Interesting & impressive building externally in lovely grounds. Room was a really good size, nicely themed and decorated. Facilities and food were excellent, particularly breakfast. Really excellent value for money.
Cons -
- Nothing much to dislike.
- Though the spa facilities were good the setting underground with windows and the rather basic changing/shower facilities felt a little unusual - giving it the feel of a public baths more than a hotel. Reception & bar not always staffed meaning slow servic
- I wouldn't go so far as to say didn't like...but...the window in room 24 needs a bit of attention as it was really windy whilst we were there and the sash window was rattling quite noisily which kept me awake a couple of nights. The sofa and chair seat cushions could do with restuffing.

The staff were lovely, the bedroom was clean, and the spa was easy to use. Breakfast very nice too.
The spa needs a significant update to bring it up to times. The room was nice but very warm and a struggle to open the windows too. Overall the hotel is nice but it feels a bit outdated.
Lovely grounds, spacious, friendly staff and great food
Very friendly and helpful staff , large room , decor and excellent spa, Ellie in Bar informative and helpful, night porter and reception phenomenal , breakfast varied and good
Considering has rosettes for food , quality varied from exceptional one night and mediocre the next , would have expected more than two flavours of sorbet and when served not just two blobs on a plate !!!
Comfort and style of the decor. Informal friendly helpful staff. Well maintained hotel and grounds. Excellent food and good spa facilities. Really enjoyed our stay.
All good.
The cottage we were in was spacious and clean with good facilities. It was really good to be able to park right outside. The breakfast was really good and we had a lot of choices.
If we wanted room service it was a £5 charge because we weren't in the main hotel which was not acceptable. The staff were pleasant and polite but few and far between and we had to look for them to access food and drink. The remote in our room didn't work very well so needs to be replaced. It would benefit from more comfortable outside seating. It was not very disability friendly as the main hall had stairs.
Beautiful comfy rooms. Very clean. Location.
Very limited menu for vegetarians. Food average. Seemed to be understaffed. Gender neutral changing rooms. Should make sure people know to lock there door from the inside.
We ate dinner at the hotel each evening. More convenient than driving to Alnwick. The food was excellent and reasonably priced in comfortable surroundings.
Wonderful country house hotel in a lovely location. Gardens are a pleasure to explore. Great facilities and choice of food. A choice of lounge areas to spend time. We would happily stay again if exploring the area. Being a couple of miles from the A1 makes this a great base for exploring Northumberland.
Doxford Hall is in a beautiful setting with lovely walks in the grounds. We stayed in the coach house which is one of their external rooms which is a short walk from the hotel and peaceful. The room had everything you needed for your stay.
Large and very well appointed rooms. Very peaceful
EV chargers worked but kept dropping out. Good rate £/kWh
Checked in on line. Hotel accommodated request for party of 10 to sit together for dinner etc.
Unsure
From arriving until departure, i couldnt have asked for more. The staff were friendly and very helpful.Room was spacious, very clean , with plenty of towels in bathroom.Breakfast was excellent with a good selection available.Spa facilities, where i spent a good bit of time were very relaxing.
i dont have any complaints at all. i got exactly what i expected.
A lovely place to stay. The staff were all unfailingly helpful and pleasant. The room was lovely. The facilities were superb and the garden was beautiful even though it was still early in the year. There was also an amazing maze to go round. I gather it is the largest in the UK. Great fun!
The decor was not really my style but I can imagine many would love it.
Breakfast was good- plenty of choice and hot option cooked to order, so nice and fresh. I stayed in one of the coach house rooms. About a five minute walk from main hotel - not a problem and it was lovely and quiet. Plenty of car parking.
The only things missing in the room (in my opinion) were a small fridge and a safe.
Absolutely everything. It was a lovely break. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Our room was extremely clean with views over the gardens. The breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable, hot, delicious food. We saw deer ?. Exceptional, if I could give more points, I would. Delightful trip.
