Not one thing!
wonderful
Location first class. Staff all friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast in a comfortable dining room.
room fantastic well worth the money , bed was so comfortable best sleep ever, from arrival until we left it was a great experience, we will definitely be back again.
everything about this place is fantastic and the highland cows in the yard made my partners day , she loves them
The Muthu Newton grounds are beautiful and it was a treat seeing the highland cows. The breakfast is a good combination of cereals, pastries and cooked items. The staff was always warm and acccommodating.
The hotel has seen better days. There are obvious signs of decline, including torn bedding, scratched furniture and dingy curtains. The bedding was comfortable and the bathroom was renovated well. Also, it is clear that the courtyard rooms are not as “luxury” as the rest of the hotel may be.
Beautiful property, very quiet. Lots of great character - exactly what you want when visiting Scotland. And so excited about the friendly hairy coos! The staff were welcoming and attentive. We enjoyed spending time at the Chaplin Bar in the evenings, a nice end to the day. Very easily accessible by car from Inverness and a great location for visiting the highlands.
Some of the furnishings were looking a little tired, though it didn’t bother us at all.
Very nice staff greeted us even though we were late getting in. The room was large and comfy need and pillows. The building is beautiful. And we got to see the the Highland cows on the property. No complaints.
We really like everything about the property except the electrical outlets.
The outlets by the beds were only for the special plugged lamps. We need to borrow extension cords for breathing machine and it was weird. Luckily they did have one long enough for us. Other than that, a great stay.
“Room”. I was quite disappointed that our room was not in the actual hotel but in a side building, not what I expected. Perfectly clean and comfortable but could have done with another chair to relax in. Dinner was really nice and enjoyable. We could not stay longer as we had to catch a flight in the morning,. Beautiful grounds and building. Sincerely Larry&Ethel Kuhn
The location was great! Our room had a view of Loch Lomond. Moonrise was gorgeous from the shore just across the street. The room was large and comfortable. The Hungarian receptionist was warm and welcoming and there were cozy areas to sip wine or Scotch whiskey in the lounge and elsewhere on the ground floor. Less than a half mile up the road to the left of the hotel was a restaurant in a former church where we had a delicious meal. (Meals were also offered at the hotel.) Breakfast was abundant and the best of our whole trip, and located in a beautiful dining room with high ceilings and large windows. The hotel is located directly across the street from Loch Lomond's Bonnie Bonnie Banks where you can catch a boat for a cruise on the lake or simply stroll after dinner and watch the moonlight on the Loch.

Beautiful building, grounds & views. Love the architecture.
Room I booked said views of gardens or grounds, my view was of a dirty rooftop and other rooms windows. Small room, nowhere to put suitcase (little, rickety luggage rack) and nowhere to really sit. Shower was raised approx. 14 inch or more, made it difficult to get in & out as there was no grab bar. Shower door didn’t close properly so water on floor. An accident waiting to happen. In room phone didn’t work (so no way to communicate with reception in an emergency) neither did safe.work (no batteries). Notified reception two times of problems and shower door was adjusted. Kettle & coffee/tea makings on shelf under tv. Not easy to get to & nowhere to set up.
The location and the old-world character
There seemed to be an issue with the toilets on the main floor and a slight odor was present. The breakfast staff were not very friendly or welcoming.
There's highland coos outside during the day. Bar and restaurant staff are friendly.
We stayed in a few places during our trip to Scotland and this is the only place I cannot recommend.Horribly uncomfortable bed that should have been replaced years ago. I have traveled a lot but I have never been able to feel the springs poking through. My back hurt every night. It took one day to get towels, two days to get a bath mat, and three days to get a hairdryer. The carpet is threadbare, the rooms are tired, the bathrooms by the restaurant are closed. And that's before the wedding party that blasted music late into the evening and screamed all night.
This property has incredible potential, but it is just a distant dream at this point. Location was good, but just could not get past the disrepair of the building. An absolute shame.
So let’s be clear, this is not the MGM you’re thinking of, this is MG Muthu, nice try on the initials. I am not sure what they are doing here, but they are clearly just milking the property for money and not doing much in the upkeep. The property for the most part is an embarrassment. Walls and carpets were a mess. As we checked in the staff was overwhelmed and flying by the seat of their pants. Room carpeting was getting done in some of the rooms but was not planned very well as patrons were in the reception area patiently waiting for rooms to open. This property has SO much potential, the owner should sell it so someone can do right by this historical building. We drove by another MGM property and it looked the same as this one, in disrepair, so it seems like a company philosophy. Now let’s talk about the Coo Cows, shame on you! One has a horrible infection on their eye and all of them had overgrown hooves. Again, like the building, the owners should be ashamed of themselves! As for the food, seems like some like it but we were not going to chance it. I truly hope someone steps in to save this building.
Dinner was good but costly. Staff was helpful arranging a second night. Helping with a faulty room safe, needs repair. Three highland Coos on property absolutely delightful!! Bar was good. Staff everywhere was fantastic!
Would prefer a choice of a light continental breakfast.
we were not in the main hotel and the converted stable area was more like hostel accomodation rather dated, cant comment on actual rooms in the hotel. It was full all nights and the staff very welcoming, food and drink good. just disappointed about room decor
