The exterior is a typical town hotel, but the interior has been renovated and is clean and comfortable. The breakfast is delicious. It's close to town, so it's great for sightseeing and walking.
Non
Location was good but the...
The room was dated and dusty with squeaking floorboards. The shower was covered in limescale and hardly any water came out. Both the restaurant and bar were closed. I was told they didn't serve breakfast Mondays. On Sunday it would have to be preordered and was only available between 8am and 9am which was too late as I had to be at work.
Plenty of car parking, pleasant staff. Was delighted to have a bath en suite after a demanding day. It was helpful to have an additional heater to supplement the radiator. I found the continental breakfast perfectly satisfactory.
I'm nearly 80, had to check in around 8.30 after a funeral and the only staff I saw was a pleasant lady at reception. I found getting my case up and down 3 sets of stairs or steps quite tricky. The main light in the room (16) was not central, and rather dim. However there were two bedside lamps in my twin room. The mattress was, unfortunately, way too firm.
From the outside it looked nice and from the photo on booking.com
It was shabby, carpets were dirty through the passageways, the shower head was full of mould and limescale as well as being broken. The seal on the shower screen was covered in black mould. We were given a twin room not a double as requested and told we could pay an extra £20 if we wanted a double. We didn’t pay the extra. One of the mattresses was ok the other all you could feel all night were the springs!! Couldn’t get comfortable at all. Totally unacceptable but had to leave early for work so didn’t see anyone to complain.
Very modern rooms, was very comfortable
Even with the heating on it still felt a little cold
Had breakfast in town as only a short walk 10 mins excellent location easy parking put registration in hotel free, indian 1 min away,
A clean and spacious room, with a nice bathroom and a nice view outside...and a parking place. Overall is a nice place to stay for business or long staying.
No elevators, no hairdryer in the bathroom.
Reasonably updated decor. Comfy bed.plenty sockets in room. Parking included but only after check in and enter reg number.Good location as short walk into town.
Breakfast was not good. Choose bacon its one rasher, poached egg undercooked and sausage was a nasty cheap thing. Continental option was minimal but better value for money.(could order up to 7 cooked items but I didnt try them all).Panelled wall/headboard was dusty.
Stayed here many times, always a lovely friendly welcome. Hotel convenient to town centre. Nice spacious Room overlooking the river, bed nice and comfy
It would be nice to offer some decaf and other options of tea in room ( and maybe some biscuits) . There were no teaspoons with the cups ( maybe just forgotten)
Stayed many times before but this stay was by far the nicest room. At the front looking over to the river, clean fresh large room, comfy bed , great for a one night stay
Downstairs bar area beautiful. Downstairs was warm and welcoming
Although we had Economy accommodation it was tired and basic, small things that need sorting, showered head attached with gaffer tape. Boiler very loud.
Great location, clean and affordable
Good for the price, needs a little decorating in places
Parking, good location, good value
No bar, bed was a bit tired
The location of the property was good and central to the town with free parking on site for guests
We had a booking for 8 guests (5 adults and 3 children) across 4 rooms. Upon arrival we were greeted with the hotel manager to check in - she argued that we hadn’t paid for any of the children’s breakfasts despite me having proof from booking.com that we had paid for breakfasts for all 8 guests with the rooms, as it was not possible to just pay for some breakfasts, but because she had different information on her system she would not accept my information and we couldn’t check in until I had paid the extra - she was very rude and abrupt. The superior double rooms were abit better standard than the triple rooms as they had been more recently decorated. The triple family rooms are very basic, mould in the bathroom, only 1 plug that worked which had an extension lead attached to it, uncomfortable old metal beds which had very hard lumpy mattresses and an horrible musty smell as you walk through the door. They no longer off dinning facilities in the evenings (thankfully we found another restaurant locally) and their lounge / bar area closed at 9:30pm so we couldn’t even get a drink or even a coffee / tea (plus we didn’t have milk in our room) - when asked for a drink at 9:25pm the manager told us that there are plenty of pubs in the town and to go and try them instead (not ideal on a Saturday evening with children). The pub that was joined to the hotel (across the car park) has now also closed.Breakfast was “ok” but limited choice and expensive for £13 each (same price for children and adults) - my daughter has several food allergies and they couldn’t offer her any alternatives so she ended up not eating as she didn’t want to risk it. It was such a shame the visit wasn’t as we expected as we had stayed here several times before over the last 10 years and had some lovely stays - it seems to be under new management now and has gone downhill.
Location
Facilities were terrible. I booked a superior double room which should have had a tea/coffee maker, hairdryer, fridge - my room had non of these things. Just the bare essentials. There was only 4 sachets of milk. The bed was 2 singles pushed together, kept falling down the middle. The bedding was cheap and tatty. The bathroom was freezing cold. We were using a plug in heater for the main room because the central heating didn’t seem to come on. The staff were noisy in the morning hoovering outside our door. There were no spare blankets or pillows. Would not return. Especially for the price I paid.
Breakfast was very good plenty of choice. Great location. We had a great stay, if we went back there again would have no issue in staying at the Northwick Arms again.
Breakfast fine Location good
Access to main building fir breakfast, given incorrect info. given a key tab that didnt work. Had to walk around whole building to bang on dining room window to attract customers attention. After collecting bags to leave rang bell to get entry as requested. no answer ! Customer eventually let me in so I could leave key.
