About

The Flying Fish Stables is a traditional country pub in the quaint village of Windmill Hill. It offers home-cooked food, real ales and individually designed rooms. Taunton is 9.3 mi away. The country pub is 18 miles from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast, and has been awarded 4 stars by the AA. Rooms have been built in the style of a stable block and feature power showers, separate baths and free toiletries. They also include Smart TVs, complimentary WiFi, hairdryers and tea/coffee making facilities. All rooms are ground floor rooms with full disabled facilities available. Featured in The Good Pub Guide for 13 years, The Flying Fish Stables serves traditional British and Caribbean cuisine and local ales. Delicious cooked breakfasts are available daily, and there is also a leafy garden and sun terrace. We are pet-friendly; please note that charges will be applied.

    Pros +

    • Room’s facilities and cleanliness were very good.
    • Good size of room and the bed. service was excellent, people are very friendly. Going to stay here next time as well.
    • Comfortable rooms, great food and friendly staff, lovely views.

    Cons -

    • Wi-Fi was very choppy. Also my last minute booking happened to be on a day their restaurant was closed in order to do an Xmas buffet which was very overpriced and didn’t even include a beverage. If I had known it was closed beforehand, I wouldn’t have booked here.
    • Nothing. Perfect.
    • The only point that was not comfortable to us, it was the bathroom door lock. It has a Suffolk latch. Although it is in the theme with stables, it makes a lot of noise when used during the night. I wish they would fit something softer/quieter. I suppose it's ok if only one person stays in the room.

The location, the views, the food in the pub. The breakfast was great too.

    10JasonPosted on: 5-25-2025

Easy and friendly checking. Great facilities with loads of room and super lovely people.

    Nothing. Perfect.

Very well presented rooms, well equipped and clean. Very helpful host. Convenient parking.

Very friendly staff. Amazing location. Great for keen walkers or runners. Beautiful view over the hills and woodlands from the restaurant window. The beds (pillows and mattress) are very comfortable. The towels are fluffy and smell very fresh. The room is very clean. Bed linen is crispy fresh, ironed. Good breakfast with plenty of nice coffee, fresh orange juice, and, of course, cooked food.

Decided to choose this accomodation as a base to explore the area. Excellent room and facilities separate from the main property, but only a short walk away for meals. Hosts, Kate & and Buddy were great and looked after us very well. Breakfast and dinner at the Flying Fish were excellent too

The food was great, and for my colleague's birthday, they baked a superb cake! Everyone was very personal and friendly.

    9LizPosted on: 2-10-2025

It was a lovely little place. Lovely views. Pub was very quiet and the staff very welcoming

    8KostakisPosted on: 1-23-2025

    The locationHuge bedFriendly staff

Unfortunately the pub was closed in the day we went. I wasn’t aware when I booked.Latch on the toilet door was very noisy in the middle of the night

    10DominicPosted on: 12-22-2024

Spotless, very large super king bed, large rooms, every single staff member extremely helpful, friendly and efficient.Order the Caribbean food on the menu if eating here as that is what they specialise in

The plastic doors to the rooms are annoying. You have to part close them with the key to get them to close, and they just aren’t in keeping with the rest of the place. But, that is a minor quibble as the staff and the rooms generally more than make up for it.

    10TrevorPosted on: 11-24-2024

The room was very large and comfortable, the food delicious, and the owners and staff incredibly helpful when I was delayed getting there

    7CPosted on: 10-22-2024

We liked that they were dog friendly and you had motel style accommodation with your own entrance and outside seating area. Also an area of grass for the dog to go to the bathroom

It was basic accomodation considering the price. Breakfast was nice but the portion was small and there weren't many breakfast options.

    9NicolaPosted on: 10-15-2024

Location, spacious and clean drive-up rooms. Always good food and drinks

    Nothing to report

Very clean comfortable room with a great host. Breakfast was lovely.

Nothing. For what I wanted it was perfect.
