    Pros +

    • Beautiful breakfast choice off hot breakfast for example full English or eggs benedict I had the homemade granola delicious. Tea coffee juices toast and cereal also available
    • The breakfast was lovely and the lady serving the breakfast was very friendly and helpful.
    • The food served at the Kings Arms is excellent. Everything in my room was perfect, with a shower that did the job.

    Cons -

    • What we didn’t like was the fact that the dinner menu on their website differed from the menu shown in the bedroom. When we sat down for dinner and the waitress presented us with a menu it was different again. I was hoping for the fish dish and my husband the steak. However, neither of these were an option. There were no starters on the menu at all. When I queried this with the waitress she said there were no starters or specials for that day. How odd. Definitely need to sort the menus out. So we both had fish and chips. Whilst this was disappointing, we could not fault the standard and quality of the food. The wine was nice too and value for money. We suspect that it was possible we were handed the next days menu - Valentines.
    • The only concerning aspect of the Kings Arms is the Car park. The entrance is very narrow especially if you have a large car and the route to the carpark is tight. If the Car Park is full then you are left with a very difficult reverse back down the tight bends and narrow entrance
    • Nothing really, just beware of the very cold, tiled bathroom floor!

Comfortable bed & pillows. Good size room & bathroom. Staff were very friendly & helpful. Lovely Valentine's meal with a lady singer providing a romantic atmosphere.

Excellent staff and service, especially Lesley. Wonderful warm welcome and exceptional breakfast.

Dinner in the restaurant was great, staff were really helpful and lovely. Location for Montacute House is perfect, but I was there for business.

Room was small, furnishings are very tired, and whilst it probably was clean, it felt a bit old and grubby. Can here every movement in the room above, including when they used the toilet!

Property very characterful and a pleasant place to stop at. Food was very good.

Being old one would expect some snags. Our room wasn’t particularly good. Furniture needed repairing - wardrobe sliding door missing, stool had trims missing. Decoration needed. Big problem was no heating at all in bathroom as heated towel rail didn’t work. It was looked at but not able to be repaired apparently. Very cold as temperature outside similar. Complained to manager by pleasant email and expected some recompense but none given. Disappointing really.

I wouldnt say that I liked anything, I had no choice but to remain there, had I had options to stay elsewhere I would have done, what made the experience bearable was the lady working there at breakfast, think she was more embarassed with the issues I had, but handled it with a smile, the manager when he arrived and was told about my issue of water coming through the ceiling, didnt even greet me or offer and apology, just grunted and shut himself in his office, telling the lady "let him have room 1 to shower" if it wasnt for the lady and how she dealt with the situation I would have certainly have said something to him, in his position a terrible response to a customer issue

To be honest for what was advertised on booking.com as 4 star accommodation, it fell incredibly short, if compared with other 4 star hotels, very tired room, wallpaper peeling off walls, carpet looked like it had seen better days, TV was a postage stamp and rarely held signal for more than a few minutes at a time, although heating was on room never seemed to warm up, slept in cloths to keep warm, topped by water coming through the ceiling in the bathroom meant I could'nt use the bathroom in the morning, although I understand this is a maintenance issue and couldnt be prevented, it just added to what was already a very underwhelming stay, and finally the church bells!, woken up on the hour every hour throughout the night!

The staff were lovely and really friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is great.

The room was basic, we had room 12 which is a twin, it was clean but basic and uninspiring, the beds were uncomfortable, we could feel the springs through the mattress. The bathroom was big but there was no heating in it so it was really cold.

How it looks in the outside

Room wasn’t clean in arrival, in fact the bed had been slept in! I complained , they didn’t offer a refund but a cup of tea while I wait for it to be cleaned! I’d say a rushed 10 minutes to clean the room.Bead was metal and noisy, mattress was lumpy, room very dated, the walls are super thin and you can hear everything, wind rattles through the windows.Bathroom is dated, broken bath panel, hair in plug, overpainted mould! Mirror on top of the wardrobe is not fixed in place and almost crashed in top of me!I complained and asked for a refund, told that would be sorted by the owner! Who completely disagreed with me, and refused a refund! So now it’s in the hands of booking.comWish I read the reviews before choosing!!!

Public areas very pleasant. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty.

Room was tired and maintenance was a bit lacking. Loose cistern handle and seat on the toilet. Bathroom very cold and shower was only tepid at the top of its range.

Lovely exterior building and beautiful surroundings. The breakfast was also tasty and a good selection.

Cold shower in the morning. The decor was also quite tired.

We loved everything. Not sure if the Manager was called Tony however he lead his team of young staff with true dedication and i witnessed him training them and even though it was extremely busy he kept calm and showed patience. A great quality I love. I had to ask for my shower head to be changed and again Tony stepped in and got us a replacement as quickly as possible. The water and everything in room 7 was perfect and hot. Great for out two dogs . Ate both nights in the bar and had the ploughman's.... oh my word it was beyond excellent. The next night I had the goat cheese starter ... awesome . Had to have the starter as main as the breakfast was huge and extremely hot and tasty. All kitchen staff deserve a shout out as it was sublime cooking. The breakfast waitress / staff again please pass on our 10/10 rating. Yes the carpets look tired( it was extremely well hoovered) but really lift your head up above the carpet and you will find a gem of a great hotel.

One of the waiting staff skirt could be longer or tights thicker

It was in a beautiful setting, lovely country walks to explore and ideal for our dog. Would love to come back in the future. Staff were lovely, we had an evening meal and breakfast, all served hot and with a smile.

Bed was a bit too soft but you can’t please everyone on that!

Montacute was where I grew up and my Dad still lives there. I was visiting him over Christmas and decided to book a room for my husband and I. The room was well furnished. The breakfast was really good and the staff were great. Great value for money especially over Christmas.

The beds weren’t that comfy and the bathroom was freezing cold. We did try turning the heated towel rail on to try and warm the room up but it didn’t make any difference. It wasn’t the end of the world as we were only there for one night.

    Nice location comfortable bed

I think my room was next to a boiler which was a bit noisy so was a bit annoying
