About

The family-run Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is set beside the Kent estuary in the picturesque village of Arnside, officially named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beer garden features views of the Lake District’s mountains and the estuary, as well as offering free on-site parking. Most of the bedrooms offer views across the Kent estuary and the mountains within the Lake District. The Fighting Cocks’ on-site bar features a wood-burning fireplace and offers a variety of traditional beers, lagers and wines. There are 2 on-site restaurants serving traditional home-cooked food. There is a Sky/BT Sports area showing live action. Arnside Rail Station is just 1148 feet from the property and junction 35 of the M6 is less than 8 miles away. The start of the Lake District National Park is just a 5 minute train journey.

    Pros +

    • Beautiful, clean room. The staff could not do enough for us. We would like to say a special thank you to Simon, Miguel, Skye and Amber for making our stay this weekend as lovely as it was. Nothing was too much trouble including showing the rugby. The food was exceptional and despite plans to eat at other places we ended up having all meals at the hotel. We are already looking at our next stay.
    • Perfect location Stunning views from our bedroom window All the staff in ye olde fighting cocks we’re so friendly Room was nice and warm
    • Lovely outlook onto the estuary. Parking available with electric charging.Homely atmosphere.

    Cons -

    • The shower was a little temperamental but we got there in the end.
    • As above.
    • All night long there were fluctuating lights shining through the edges of the window blind and under the door - like every 10 seconds it changed from very bright to dark. So annoying. All the doors had noisy closing mechanisms - and everything creaked, floors, doors, windows, hallway. The mattress was like a giant unfriendly marshmallow. The fundamental purpose of a hotel room is to facilitate sleep - light shows, loud noises and uncomfortable beds do not contribute to this outcome. If this had cost £20 a night, I would have been okay with it - but I consider £50 a night to be daylight robbery.

Food for dinner and breakfast was good as was service. The room was the worst of many that we have stayed in and the stench of dogs in the corridor outside our room was atrocious. The room itself was dirty and the bathroom was disgusting even the black Lino flooring looked dirty and the shower hose was covered in black mould. The pub with rooms was the worst of numerous stayed in and advertised no dogs in any rooms which was wrong.

    As above.

Great location , great value for money, friendly accommodating staff .Nicely furnished room

Nothing major, our bathroom could do with a bit of painting but that’s being nitpicking

A great little hotel.I stayed here for a relaxing weekend at the end of January. There is a comfortable bar with board games. Great food is served, but you are close to other places to eat if you fancy something else. Arnside Chippy, for example, is around the corner. It is excellent. The staff are friendly and talkative.Rooms are nice, cosy and clean. It's a super quiet location, so relaxation is assured.

    Absolutely nothing nothing noted.

Views and area. Comfy bed, well equipped room. Lovely breakfast, cooked to perfection. I also returned for Sunday Lunch, 4 choices including vegetarian and I chose the Lamb special, generous portions and fabulous Yorkshire Pudding. I will return. Advisable to book for meals.

Mine was a late booking, and if I'd given more thought, I would have chosen a lower floor bedroom as the nature of the main building/ pub doesn't allow for a lift. That said, the Staff helped me with my bags

Great location, friendly welcome and good food. Fish pie and seafood chowder excellent.

    10SandraPosted on: 1-27-2026

Very good vegetarian roast dinner. Very good vegetarian breakfast. Both highly recommended, and much appreciated that VEGETARIAN, and not Vegan, options were available. All the staff were very friendly. A special mention for Tony, who was very attentive and helpful. We were given an upgrade to a room with a beautiful view of the estuary and hills, and this was also much appreciated.

    Could find no fault.

The location is great for a stay here and free parking included.

Our room was filthy. Dust everywhere even on the walls and mould. Bathroom was appalling, bath panel broken and hanging off, sealant was filthy and very poorly applied. Basin didnt fit the pedestal and wasnt attached to the wall. Spoke to Andrew in the morning who couldnt have been more apologetic and helpful. The maintenance man inspected our room and agreed it needed a deep clean. We were assured that Anthony, the owner, would contact us on his return from holiday but as yet that hasnt happened. We do have photos of the room but dont feel this is the right platform to share them.
