- We have stayed here before and we got upgraded to a deluxe room as we had stayed before and it was my husband’s birthday. We were left a card and chocolates in the room for his birthday which we thought was a lovely surprise. Our room overlooked the beautiful lake. Highly recommend it.
- View from the communal areas of the hotel was amazing! Perfect location - lake side, looks beautiful especially when lit up on an evening. Boat and train trips leaving regularly.
Cons -
- Fine dinning restaurant. Would love to have eaten there but felt it over priced. Having multiple choice of eggs at breakfast, not just 1 choice. Plus black pudding would have completed it perfectly.
- Hotel itself - shabby, dated, unclean in parts (dust thick in parts of our room), barely any loungers in the “spa”, which is tatty and dated itself. There were cardboard shot glass sized cups for water, with a printed paper notice saying “limited cups available”. Staff aren’t exactly welcoming. Breakfast was OK, nothing to shout about. All in all, would not return.
- The restaurants were very overpriced ,and the soup of day was the same for three days

Not good value, limited range.
The restaurants were very overpriced ,and the soup of day was the same for three days
The location, the upgrade, the staff and the facilities.
Small thing but no water in rooms.
Spa facilities were excellent. The restaurant food was exceptional. Location very good
Car park was quite a distance from the Hotel. One member of staff was abrupt and difficult to deal with. However, the rest of the staff were very helpful. We did have an issue with housekeeping, which was dealt with. The Bistro food didn't live up to our expectations. It would have been nice to have a view of the lake from our room
Location, breakfast and spa
Food in the brasserie was lacking and expensive
B'fast excellent service and quality of food and presentation. Space and areas to relax.Spa and pools. Rooms comfy with good bathrooms - NB see comment below.
Dinner pricing we felt was about 10% too much, and whilst service & food was again excellent, we felt some of the menu dishes were clearly overpriced with ythe brasserie not open as yet. Out of the 2 rooms booked - room 107 had poor hot water flow in shower. It was a quiet time and dissapointed we couldn't purchase £75 worth of treatment add ons for our mother- in- law in her 80's, without first purchasing a main treatment which she couldn't commit to.
Friendly reception Great locationWell appointed room
Room service didn't clean our room after our first night. We requested the beds be made and told they would be but weren'tFood good quality but small portions for price
Location is very good
The spa was very poor very busy and not enough seats to relax
Great hotel on the lake, near local attractions, with parking. I’m disabled, and it was generally wheelchair friendly.Comfortable bedroom, spotless bathroom, and marvellous staff. Comfy fireside seating in inclement weather Wonderful Spa and pool area is great.
The Bistro was difficult to access because there are only stairs inside I had to go outside to a locked door for which it took ten minutes in the rain to find the key to let me in.The food service was too long a wait, but when served the food is excellent.
Breakfast is great. Pip, who works on reception is really nice
Brasserie restaurant was closed but not on website as such. Afternoon food menu wasn't as advertised on website
The property was very nice. Very clean. The rooms were decent enough in size for a standard double and again were very clean. The breakfast had a lot of choice and was brought fresh on a plate from the kitchen rather than a buffet style you get in some hotels. It was close to the start of 3 walks for different experience levels which was nice. The spa facilities that were included in the price ie the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were perfect for unwinding after a long walk. Excellent changing facilities too
My only nitpick would be that the bar was quite expensive. I know that is the case everywhere these days especially in the lakes but £17.10 for a can of guinness zero and a baileys coffee i thought was pretty excessive. Also the hotel car park was about 50 yards away and very poorly lit but its better than having to pay for parking like in some places
Food and views
Our room was very poor and the second night we couldn’t eat other than a Buffett which we did want to, we would of never booked if that was the case
The spa was fantastic and the room was fantastic very clean big comfy bed etc. The location is stunning
The staff were not very helpful and they didn't make us feel very comfortable or welcome. When we checked in they were not very welcoming.
Excellent service from the moment we arrived until we left.Staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient.
Lovely location, we had a lake view room which was beautiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Lakeside Hotel is a classic resort which we visited on our honeymoon 25 years ago. It still offers an elegant setting, with kind and helpful staff. Our room overlooking the lake was beautiful, clean, and quiet. Every course served at the restaurant was unique and delicious, offering a variety of choices for vegetarians. We hope to return sooner than in another 25 years!
Easier to arrive by car and we chose public transport. But from Windermere train station the buses (no. 6) come to The Swan in Newby Bridge, which is just a short and beautiful walk away along a dedicated and well marked footpath. Outside of January boats arrive from Bowness.
Booked last minute when we were let down by holiday cottage booking. Able to accommodate us and the hotel was very welcoming. Staff friendly, night porter very helpful, lovely breakfast and stay was very comfortable and relaxing. Highly recommend!
Amazing location and view.
Spa was closed the whole day on our only full day stay and we received no warning about it in advance, which was very disappointing as spa retreat was our goal for the trip, and we ended up having one hour use up on the arrival. Room size are misrepresented. We got a tiny room for the price of a room that is presented as 30 m². Black mold in the shower, and spa. Had to go down to the reception for room service menu, which defeats the whole purpose of room service. Towels in the room had massive stains, they were replaced upon request
