Pros +
- Pleasant
- Excellent hotel and spa with exceptional food and staff
- Very comfortable rooms with lots of space (we booked the junior suite). The bartenders were fantastic and the staff overall very helpful. Loved the lounge area for relaxing in the evening, it felt homely and not at all pretentious. Highly recommend the spa treatments. I left my coats behind and they sent them on immediately. Would come back.
Cons -
- i wasnt over impressed with the room for the price having staying in other hotels in the area such as the brimstone i thought the rooms were very basic
- Nothing at all
- It is an old building so understandably there is no climate control so it gets a little warm. Did not realise the hot tub was outside; some shrubbery would be good to seclude it from view on the right. There was one Venetian blind in our room which let in light, better to match to the blackout ones. Took over an hour to get our bags as they were super busy. Turn down could be a little more thoughtful. However none of this took away from an overall fab experience!

Second time we have stayed at Gilpin. It did not disappoint, the staff are super friendly , efficient and very welcoming. Beautiful boutique feel to the hotel .
Hotel is stunning
The rom was perfect and the breakfast had plenty of choice to very good standard The tasting menu on Valentine’s Day was served and explained excellent and tasted perfect
Only fault was wish could had a window to open for some air at night there was some French doors but it was to cold to leave them open but it wasn’t a deal breaker and will be back again
Room, bar and restaurant all amazing!
7% service charge added to the room bill.
The room was very comfortable and the hot tub outside was in a discrete area. The grounds were very nice at the hotel and the staff all very friendly.
I feel for the price, the facilities could have been better in the room. We booked a room with a hot tub so did use it most of the day through to the night however would have appreciated a more ‘modern’ facility room.I also did not like that there was an additional charge to pay at the end for service which was separate to the staff service within the restaurant/bar that we had paid.
Very cosy feel to the hotel, it felt like a home away from home. The food was incredible. Spice Restaurant never disappoints. Our room was clean and comfortable.
Music playing downstairs was a touch too loud early in the morning, not enough to wake us but once I had woken up it was enough to keep me awake.
Staff were fantastic. Food at Gilpin spice was excellent. Enjoyed spending time in the hot tub relaxing. Would recommend and hopefully visit again.
Nothing specifically stands out. Walk into bowness was nice, and hotel was immaculate. After staying I do think £520 per night (without breakfast) was excessive. It was more costly than high standard in hotels in london, personally I don’t think it’s priced from a value for money perspective.
Clean. Rooms were superb A little too warm though
The breakfast was poor. Coffee was cold. For lunch the soup was luke warm. It’s not the standard I would expect for. 5star hotel
Stunning room, luxury amenities with very helpful staff. The spa treatments were great, really recommend.
Would expect the price of the stay to include breakfast, especially since the hotel is not near any other restaurants.
Its location and the whole set up is lovely. Spa facilities and food at source. Employees at spa facilities were very good and spa was great. Dinner at source was exceptional.
I felt the hospitality was overall lacking in the property in quite a few places. First was at the reception. Everybody is very rushed and quality of 5 star definitely lacking. Second was at food service few individuals were notably grumpy. I don’t expect people to be always very pleasant but talking nicely should not take a million dollar ?. It just destroys the whole experience you are trying to achieve
Calmness
Very far from center You need to have you breakfast at hotel
Scenary, food and some staff were most helpful and some were curt and helpful.
Problem with the new TV’s, staff were helpful. Turn down service arrived at 8.45pm, which was too late on our last evening. Eventually went downstairs to gain water and milk. Asked for english mustard at breakfast Was brought American mustard and told “ that’s all there is ! Cleanliness of the room was average.
The staff are nice and friendly. The room and the hot tub are clean. The cute animals as a do not disturb sign is a real sparkle point. The lobster in the Michelin starred restaurant Source is amazing.
A bit far away from center so if you are not traveling by car then it will be a bit inconvenient.
We really enjoyed our meal in gilpin spice, the comfortable room and the roll top bath . The staff were lovely and friendly throughout and it was very helpful having an ev charge point.
The price to add in breakfast and price to access the spa for hot tub / steam room use only , we felt it was overpriced and so didn’t use them . There was also a slightly unpleasant smell outside at front reception . Other than this we had a lovely stay and I’m sorry to bring in any negatives.
Amazing location, beautiful room with fantastic food and amazing service
The staff on arrival were extremely warm and eager to provide excellent service. The room was a delight. The food was exceptional as were the staff who served us. The sauna was very enjoyable. The location was a joy.
Staff helpful and welcoming. Food excellent Accommodation very comfortable
