Pros +
- The food was amazing. Location easy enough to find even though miles from nearest town so needed to drive rather than wandering.
- Breakfast was excellent, dinner good, the restaurant and conservatory areas are lovely, parking very spacious
- A large manor house with modern additions, and plenty of downstairs space. The bedroom was huge, high ceiling, big windows. Warm and quiet (though if the window is open you hear the nearby ring road). Bed linen and mattress very comfortable. A small clean bathroom. Spa area was very clean and empty when I visited. Nice vegetarian cooked breakfast. The serving staff at dinner and breakfast were friendly and helpful.
Cons -
- The 2 beds pushed together wasn't brilliant, not everything in the spa area works.
- Small room up 2 narrow flights of stairs, very dated and tatty, bathroom window wouldn't lock shut, kept blowing open in the windMuch needs refurbishment
- The bathroom was a bit tired and had a single soap dispenser rather than little bottles (maybe being eco-conscious but felt a tad mean). Dinner at the Bistro was poor - a sad bit of boil in the bag salmon. Reception staff didn’t seem pleased to see me and calls to the hotel on the number given in the room went unanswered and apparently messages were not picked up by the next morning.

Bed was a little uncomfortable
Hotel was nice and warm given the January weather. My room was on the top floor,as booked, but part of the ceiling was shaped to accommodate the roof giving it an attic feel.

Traditional country house hotel with a lot of charm and character. Well kept and clean. Warm throughout. Staff professional but also friendly. High quality food at dinner and breakfast. We used it as a stopover on a long car journey but it would also be a good base for a very scenic area.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was ok.
Room and modern wing of the hotel felt rather bland and uninspired. Bed was too hard for us.
Beautiful historic building with great architecture and stunning staircase.Weekend birthday spa break for my eldest daughter. Upgraded our room and early entry to room very much appreciated. Spa facilities lovely and delicious light afternoon tea to follow.Enjoyed the use of the Conservatory and lounge areas. Supper and breakfast were served in the Bistro. Great ambiance, delightful menu choices and comfortable surroundings. All staff were extremely welcoming in all area of the hotel and spa. Special mention to Carol on reception on our arrival. We received exceptional customer service. Thank you so much,
No concerns
The staff were most helpful and 5* to the manager Shawn. Evening meal and breakfast was fantastic.Main rooms are well decorated and clean with a proper fire, very warm for a cold winters stay.First room was like something from the land that time had forgotten. Noisy radiator and shower from my grandparents timeA little like a living museum. Candlewick blanket would have made it a totally convincing 1960’s time capsule.Upgrade room was not a lot better
As above
Food was amazing; both breakfast and dinnerThe spa facilities were great; £25 for guests for 2 hours use definitely value for money
Our room was small and very hot even with the radiator turned down.
The room and bed were large, the staff were extremely polite and friendly, the Christmas decorations were lovely
The only complaint was the pillows were somewhat hard, but that may be because im used to memory foam
Warm welcone, smooth easy stay, nothing was too much, lovely and warm definatly go back and the spa was great
There was no plug near the bed and the glasses in the room were too small lol! If i had to be picky...
We were up-graded to a luxury room with double aspect and lovely view. We really enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The spa was good
Hotel was ok, but very quiet, after evening meal..no entertainment, no music nothing, just an early night in bed to look forward to.
Beautiful setting with amazing views. Staff very helpful and friendly, especially the restaurant staff who were cheerful and welcoming. The spa facilities were just right. Not crowded, and good choices. A real hidden gem.
Nothing, everything passed our expectations .
It was OK, but nothing extra special. although the staff were very professional.
The TV didn’t work due to no signal. The bathroom was very small, and the room itself was quite noisy when other guests went to bed - not sure what it would be like if the hotel was busy. Although not hotels fault, we were annoyed by an old chap using his mobile phone (not quietly) over breakfast, be it as a phone or a video which he then relayed to another couple on another nearby table. The administration fee was removed upon request.
Location was beautiful
The room was not in the home it was in the old coach house. A lot of stairs for people that unable to climb
Went online about 2 30 on Tuesday and booked this hotel because stayed there a couple years ago and the spa was brilliant.Arrived from Glasgow about 5 15 only to be told the spa closed at 5.Only booked this because of spa VERY DISSAPOINTED.Told it would be open at 10 in morning. Now if it closes at 5 and you can only check in at 3 it doesn't give you a lot of time and what about customers that turn up after work say 6 or 7.Opens at 10 in morning but check out is 11.Was then told to use the spa would cost £25 each and would have to book it 24 hours in advance.Happy enough with rest of hotel but feel we were lead up garden path.Website said spa was open for duration of our stay. Not good enough
Beautiful views from the breakfast room. Very nice breakfast served by friendly polite staff.
Our room had a tiny window so felt quite dark. However we did get a last minute break for a really good price so I would not be put off staying again.
The building itself was lovely and the grounds with the scenery were really nice too
No 24 hour reception most of the doors were locked so couldn’t access outside like going to your car if needed after 11pmBreakfast milk was off which almost made me sick
