Pros +
- The room was perfect for an overnight stay. Best breakfast we have had in a hotel. Great value for money
- Location off the M6 and near Hadrian’s Wall sites
- This was the 3rd property I switched for the area. Price, location were at the top of my needs list. I found it perfect for those needs along with lovely staff, clean accommodating room and how fun to have staying in true English pub.
Cons -
- When I booked, months in advance, I requested a room on the ground floor due to partner’s mobility issues. No one replied that that would not be possible…until the day of our reservation at 12:30 pm. I did not see the email as I was driving. When we checked in at 4 we were informed that all rooms were up a small flight of stairs. The stairs were steep with very narrow steps. My partner stayed down until after dinner and didn’t come back down until we left. I had to take breakfast up to him-not an enjoyable meal setting in a tiny room with only one chair! Their comment at check in was that we should have called and booked them direct. Then we would have known. Not an acceptable response in my opinion. We booked months in advance. They had ample time to respond. It would have given us time to cancel before non refundable period and find a more acceptable lodging.
- Not much to say negative. Breakfast was lovely, dinner was the best we had on our travels. We enjoyed the outside patio for our afternoon pints, our rooms were comfortable and staff accommodating to any requests.
- Some of the doorways were a bit small…nothing you can do about it being an older building…it wouldn’t stop me from returning though.

The space was well appointed and comfortable - the food and service were amazing. It was a great stay all around.

Clean and comfortable, with good food.
Lovely place to stay. Staff and owner work hard and it shows. I was on the tail end of my wall walk and this place was a bit out of the way but a really nice place to stay.
No complaints.
Friendly pub ,really nice big room with an enormous comfortable bed, the room is getting a bit tired but that said nothing to put us off in any way , This is the most dog friendly place I have ever stayed in, open all areas to our dog , even found a path down to a vast open field where she had a good run .The restaurant was lovely, and I had the best haddock and chips I've had in a very long while. The breakfast was excellent, hot and freshly cooked, and a good choice We will definitely be back. Thank you ?
Nothing,,,, wonderful stay
Staff was excellent. There was a bit of a problem with the television and they were very quick to resolve it. Breakfast was wonderful. Great food and even better service. The grounds of the facility were beautiful and very peaceful.
Nothing comes to mind.
The Queens is an amazing place. It’s a beautiful old character pub that has been respectfully modernised. I stay here once a month and will always return. The rooms are beautiful. The beds are sublime - a good night’s sleep is guaranteed! The food is fresh and local and cooked to restaurant standard. For a single female I know I always feel safe here - the owner and staff are like family!
Absolutely nothing to dislike!
Great location, quiet and tucked away but a short drive from the M6 which was perfect. We arrived in time for an evening meal which was Sunday roast / 2 course or 3 courses menu which was great value and delicious.Breakfast was also very good. The room was comfortable and well equipped. We would definitely recommend for an overnight stay
The location, great stop over, excellent meal in the evening would recommend, very comfortable large bed
Bathroom in the room was a little tired
Excellent stay again. This time I’d booked the single room. I kept banging my head on the eaves when I got up but that’s my fault for not remembering to duck!Ate in the bar and the meal was excellent. Staff very friendly and the Queens is dog friendly which is a bonus.
Steep stairs as I’ve got a dicky hip!Not the fault of the Queens, it’s just an old building.
Great location not far from M6. Perfect stoppover on a journey to Scotland.
A little dated, could do with a facelift, particularly stairs.
The location was lovely and quiet. Clean, comfortable hotel with lovely staff. Food and drink were good and great choices.
Very small tv!?!
A little gem, just off the motorway near Carlisle, easy to find and quiet. We were greeted by two lovely staff behind the bar who gave us all the details needed for our stay and directions to our room. There was a lovely fire in the pub to warm us after out 6 hour travel. Our room was warm, comfortable and pleasant. We booked a table at the restaurant and we were escorted on time. The food we ordered was delicious. We had breakfast included in our stay. The breakfast menu had plenty of choice and included continental. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. If you’re looking for a lovely little pub with rooms, then you’ve found it!
Delicious evening meal and breakast cooked using quality ingredients, including little pots of home-made jams! The staff were very friendly and helpful: we left behind a cardigan that they posted off to us the next day.The bed was really comfortable, and the room very quiet, ensuring a good night's sleep.A great stopover on our way home from Scotland, and we will definitely be returning.
Very clean and comfortable bedroom - very good food in the evening and also at breakfast. The staff are all very friendly and service excellent.
Good location, and cooked to order breakfast was excellent
King size bed only had bedside table and lamp on one side, only one chair in room and the springs were totally gone, dirty windows with mould all round them
Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was so tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Maybe the shower could do with updating.
Good breakfast and evening meal.good car parking.
No water in room. Could not use Internet as open system. Room quite small, radiator u/s
