Pros +
- The nature around the place
- This is a great old hotel. Large room was warm and welcoming. The restaurant gave us a fabulous 3 course meal for a reasonable price. We spent an hour in the spa. Staff were very helpful. Lovely location by the river. We drove here after a day in Bilbao and stayed for one night as we were heading to France.
- Almost nothing
Cons -
- The hotel is not clean. In my room there was hair of the former guest or the cleaning lady on the new bedsheets . The lifts are very dirty.. Though I emphasized three times that I was a Vegetarian, not eating fish or meat, when lunch and dinner was served, they still put tuna in my salad plate, both times. The first room they gave me....the bed frame was broken , I was given another much better room which I appreciated. The receptionist took so much time to do the check-in and check-out. Processes that should work easily because they are done so many times just took forever there. I can only confirm all the bad reviews I read before and should have not booked this just because of the advantages of the location I saw for my further stay in that area.
- The room was very small. There was almost no space between the bed and the cupboard. It was a single bed, and wasn't very comfy. I also asked to go to the Spa, but they told me was completely booked out (however when I booked the room, there was an option to pay for the spa). The wall where so thing between rooms that I spent the whole night listening to the other rooms guy snoring all night long. The facilities are very old, and has not been renewed. Even the grand staircase is crocked. When I asked to have dinner, they told me there where only sandwiches in the cafeteria. Totally unacceptable.
- Run down, over priced, dated tired room, poor restaurant.

Location.
Run down, over priced, dated tired room, poor restaurant.
We were desperate to find an accommodation in San Sebastián (everything was fully booked) and we found Balneario de Cestona. It was a great alternative 30 min far away from San Sebastián. =) We took the advantage of the SPA facilities to relax a bit.
The property is huge and requires some kind of investment to upgrade it. But the areas are generous. It just requires a “modernization”.
The worst place, bad quality, expensive and dirty
The property is dirty, expensive, smells horrible. We needed to spend the night because we didn’t have an other choice . The pictures showed in the website are fake and not updated. I had the worst experience in hotels in my life. I am tired because I couldn’t sleep. The room smells so bad. I rented two rooms and my kids and husband were very upset about this place
Beautiful location
It is very dated. So paint is covering cracks. Old bathtub etc
The place has a nice location, the room was spaceous and the breakfast good.
The welcome was not very welcoming, and the check-out took a long time because one of the two receptionists didn't want to bother with dealing with me (he was very busy staring at something intensely), so I had to wait until his colleague became available. The walls are very thin, so pack ear plugs. The bed was not comfy.
The spa was a great experience, lovely waterjet massage. The old fashioned grandeur of the hotel is very filmic and cozy
Historic hotel/balneario with a gorgeous SpaVery friendly staff
the ancient splendour of the building
the restaurant was a bit expensive for the quality of the meals
Wonderful art deco hotel, getting a little tired but for the price it was a great place to stay. The food in the restaurant and bar area was excellent value for money and well executed. The spa was really good and invigorating. The architecture was fantastic if you like Art Deco ,beautiful corridors. All in all a very pleasant stay
There was nothing to dislike unless you were particularly fussy. You get what you pay for and it was excellent value for money
1. Last minute availability as it has plenty of rooms & we hadn’t booked anywhere ahead of our travel. 2. The response of the reception staff when I asked to move rooms. 3. The breakfast & amazing huge dining room/hall. 4. Free parking.
1. First room allocated was in adjacent block some walk away from Main reception. I had my 5yr old son with me. Looked more like a basic hostel than a hotel room, very basic, no air conditioning & bathroom very uninviting. 2. Very small old fashioned lift, only room for a few people, more like a porters lift. 3. No air conditioning in any rooms. 4. Property in need of major expenditure to bring it all up to speed. Felt & looked in a time warp. Could be amazing. 5. No swimming pool for children. I was hoping to take my son swimming in the morning before leaving but it’s only a spa pool and children not allowed.
Unpleasant
What a God awful place. The staff were rude and unfriendly. The building was dilapidated and the rooms were awful and urgently in need of renovation. The food was simply horrible. A hugely expensive mistake.
The patineThe character The history of the placeThe location
A formidable place surrounded by forests and a river crossing next to hotel.
The rooms a bit more modern.
Very nice outside areaRooms are clean but there are molds in many places
They did not advertise in booking site that dogs can not get into the breakfast salon, and we paid in advance for breakfastThe staff were nice enough to let us take the breakfast to the terrace
Water pressure in shower
Peeling paint, toilet hadn't been cleaned before my arrival, overall, the peeling paint & plaster, dripping water and mediocre breakfast mean that I'll never return and will post my views on social media.
Beautiful settings, dog friendly, clean and comfortable
Range for breakfast was good. I possibly could have done with a hot option as well, but that's personal choice
Hotel staff at reception tried very hard to communicate, despite the lack of English.Sufficient free parking space at Hotel,Nostalgic historie building
Poor communication on arrival and departure. No English speaking staff. Very slow and long time lasting registration and billing process. Hotel unsuitable for business travellers, as the breakfast restaurant only opens at 08:30.Very noisy room due to late night and early morning truck traffic in front of hotel.Hotel equipment is a matter of taste and for people with a preference for antique equipment.Partialy in need of restoration, musty smell in the rooms
