super hot, not good ventilation
It was extremely conveniently located for the marathon packet pick-up and race that were our reason for going to the town.
There were no live staff on the premises, with check-in and check-out via a video screen with a person in a different city. There was no coffee/tea service and no heater to boil water to make your own. There was no elevator so heavy suitcases had to be carried up and down stairs to the exposed outdoor entrance to the room. Only one room key could be had, forcing us to always plan to come or go with us together or by leaving one of us in the room. The only restaurant on property has Indian cuisine. The culture of the city is that no restaurants nearby were open during the hours we would normally eat our meal.
The room was basic but clean, with no real view considering where it's located. The area looked a bit sketchy on arrival, but all was fine - it's just a bit out of town, and borders a sports ground, so was deserted late at night.
I didn't like the virtual receptionist - it was all a bit surreal to turn up late in the evening and be greeted by someone on the other end of a video link - welcome to the future no doubt..
Bad
After the booking had already been paid at booking.com some days before check-in, the booking was charged a second time at the check-in desk to my credit card. So I paid double. The Hotel did not react to any request for refund and was ignoring all my Email Messages. On the phone I have been but off with every call. Unfortunately the Walming Group to which this Hotel belongs seems to take advantage out situations like these. Stay away from this hotel as I suspect all of their policies are not customer oriented and the behavior seem intentionally. Finally booking.com refunded the amout back to me. I guess they have taken over the case. Best service of booking.com ever, thanks for that !
Room, Breakfast
The fan was completely broken and no AC so impossible to sleep when it was very hot outside.
The breakfast was ok but charged extra
BrothelCompletely unhelpful Dirty and run down for the price!
Location
Filthy room with masses of long black hair covered the floor throughout and in bedding. Contraceptive wrappers found in beding and inbetween beds. No TV remote. Uncomfortable bedding heavy quilt & useless pillow. No AC of course!
I was allowed to store my bicycle inside the room as the storing solution in the garage was not available upon arrival. The room on the first floor was quiet and had everything I awaited to stay for a night: Shower gel, towels, bed linen and a comfortable bed.
Although it seems to be a good concept to offer an online reception only, it required a personal phone call to the administrator to get access to the room upon arrival in the afternoon. No remarks or explanation was given online nor on-site.
Breakfast Was not good. The coffee filter on the machine changing keep flashing to change while I was making coffee
They couldn’t find my booking so they charge me again The Reception is an absolute nightmare. There is no Reception after being charged twice and showing the Reception video my paid receipt from booking.com. I was told they couldn’t refund my money because they had no authority three days later and after many emails I still don’t have my Swiss francs but I won’t be dropping the case.
Excellent room with balcony - as long as they allow you to stay in one of those. The balcony rooms, which make up the majority of the hotel estate - are superb. They are comfortable, light, spacious and clean, with a also fridge which was handy for us. There is also a communal microwave in the lobby. The balcony was like an extra room that we made good use of as the weather was very hot and so much appreciated. The location is great, in a quiet suburb of the town right next door to the beautiful Lido (council-run open air pool with lovely fresh water - it's amazing compared to what are used to), Barryland (for the St Bernard dogs - the reason for our visit) and also Martigny Bourg train station. There are supermarkets and other facilities nearby.
We booked a room with 2 separate beds (myself and my son) for 2 nights. They initially booked us into a room with a double bed, so that was no good. This was in the part of the hotel where the rooms do not have balconies and are situated over the busy, hot restaurant and kitchens. In the hot weather, this was especially not welcome. Then they insisted on giving us a room in the same hot and dark area, with no balcony, with twin beds. Meanwhile I noticed there were plenty of rooms with balconies that seemed to be a much nicer area of the hotel so it was a mystery why they insisted on putting us here, twice. I thought maybe the hotel was full, but it wasn't. However this room was again not satisfactory and the blind would not open. I complained and the hotel manager who after checking it agreed that we needed to move. Finally we were given a room with a balcony on the other, much nicer side of the hotel. If he had not offered this, I would have requested it anyway. I later asked the receptionist why it had taken them 3 attempts to give us an acceptable room. She said it is all down to the manager and nothing to do with her. Despite an excellent stay overall, the one thing I would warn other travellers is - ALWAYS REQUEST A BALCONY ROOM at this hotel, as there is a risk you won't get it. Unless that area is not available of course. We later realised that the hotel had plenty of vacant rooms so it's a mystery why we were treated like this. Surely the management know that the balcony rooms are much nicer. Also, weirdly but it's not necessarily negative - the receptionist is a person on a computer screen in the lobby clearly working from elsewhere. It was still fine to communicate with her, just a a little strange to begin with. If it works for this hotel then I'm fine with that.
Customer service and breakfast
The shower head was broken and the room was very hot
The 2 marroki house keepers (I do not know their names) were very good and helped a lot with my request to change to another room.
Very soft mattres
The motel was clean.
The motel was extremely bare, no cups or glasses, had to be requested. Reception was through a video link, one was talking to a screen.
The neighborhood was calm and the room was neat. The online reception worked fine.
There was no cup in the room.
One of the few hotels in Martigny, OK as such, all basic features are there. Nice and helpful staff.
For a room that costs CHF 90 I would expect better maintenance and housekeeping: missing light bulb, cracks in the sink, no towels found in the room (had to spend 40 minutes asking and waiting for them), no air conditioning at the reception, fairly basic breakfast.
Location is perfect, there is an affordable parking near hotel
No AC, furniture is feeble
Terrible overnight stay. Had unwelcome people knocking at the door. Awful place
Bed not made up for 2 people. no towels no staff/people
